    Serica are thrilling! It is the first time in ages I see wristwatches being skilfully designed by someone who wanted to look cool - not clumsily cobbled together by marketing people or horology nerds. They are stylish, they are practical, authentic, even affordable. Love it! Thanks for the review.

    Serica is crushing it with their lineup. Have the same 4512 -- love it. Also looks great on a slim single-pass leather strap. Currently have it on a light tan canvas strap. The white dial 5303 is on order -- can't wait for that delivery. I like the look of the mesh bracelet for dressier occasions, but it's going to primarily be worn on a gray MN strap by Erika's Originals.

    Thank you very much for the comparison video. As you know, I own the 4512 WMB version. I have evolved away from dive watches over the past few years. Of course, I favor the 4512.

      Thanks for watching! The Serica 5303 really blurs the lines between Dive/military/casual and dress watch, it really does everything and with 300mm water resistance it is tough enough to handle daily life with ease. The bracelet to lug integration is fabulous.

  • @christianmotos
    @christianmotos Год назад +1

    Uh the complaint about the screw down crown is a valid one. For a handwind only watch, you end up unscrewing and screwing the crown to power it up--in the long run it will wear out the groove. I think that's important for most people for longevity's sake than adding a few meters of water resistance no one's going to go down to.

    A screw down crown is to protect the crown from harm not really to help with water resistance. You can make a watch however deep you want the resistance to be and not have to have the crown screw down. I think it’s a pain on the field watch to have to unscrew it everyday to wind it. It’s also more likely the threads will cross eventually doing it everyday. Just doesn’t make sense to me but I do think the watch is beautiful.

    I love the idea its manual wind and screw down crown. Rolex Oyster used this from 1926 to 1933 when the auto was released. BUT for heavens sake not one person has asked IF the crown TUBE is replaceable, or if its part of the case (one piece) and isn't!? It would wanna be replaceable and hopefully screwed into the case, not machine pressed. Again crown TUBE not the crown.

    The khaki field mechanical has history, direct lineage with military watches of yesteryear, functionality, and I love it, but I've always found its lack of water resistance a bit annoying. The Serica, on the other hand, has no history (yet) but I must admit that it is beautiful and with perfect water resistance. Now I doubt what would be the best choice for a rough and attractive daily use watch, also taking into account that the prices are very similar. 😟

    • @canadianwatchmonkey3992

      No doubt about it the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is legendary, Serica is the new kid on the block but I feel that they are going places, love their design language and offers something different.

    I am looking for a great watch, however $400-500 is still a bit much to me, really like the Hamiltons and seiko. I’d like something military, was looking at the bulova hack, but I do feel like 38mm is a bit small for my 7.5 wrist… for now g shock and Vostok is a lot of fun unless I can find something cool on sale

      Get the Hamilton Khaki Field automatic in 38mm or 41mm if you like larger. This in my opinion would be your best choice.

    No mention of the weird glitches in the Newton, with the twitchy hacking and drifting minute hand when setting the time? - behaviour which Serica ended up calling "native features" of the new movement. Deal breaker for me.

      Strap change is done with simple spring bars, that being said the bracelet the 5303 comes with makes the watch and wouldn’t even consider changing it to something else.

  • @CS-kk4tm

    The crown is WAY too big. Completely unnecessary and serves no purpose. On the manual movement (field watch series) the crown is much smaller, but you use it literally every single day (because it's manual). Then on the automatic movement (diver series) the crown is HUGE, but you never use it (because it's automatic). lol. Just makes no sense.
