I especially like the combination of national park and world class museum. Its like you get the best of both worlds : Natural and man made beauty as a complete experience. To me, it's one of the most unique sites in the world for that reason. It is really medicine for the mind to spend a full day there and just take it all in.
Hi from.Australia. Great to see you at this museum. Cafe Terrace at Night was my bucket list painting and I made a long day trip from Amsterdam to see it. I was first into the museum and the attendant took some photos for me. Nice to see one of the Sunflower series there too in your video.
This is certainly the first time to watch a vlog about the Netherlands with jazzmusic in the background. It gives it such a uniques vibe. Good choice Nate! Coming from a musician.
Fantastic video. I laughed many times. But the best part is how much you appreciate our small country. By now I think you have seen more of it than most natives. So let nobody think you are just tourists. And you know the Dutch viewers so well that yo make it clear that the dog is on a leash, he has water and that he doesnt have to sit too long in the car. (Im talking about Finnigan) You two travel the world and been to many many places, but biking through the heather in full bloom also makes you happy. Keeping a close eye on the buienradar and watching for all the wolves. Too bad you had only limited time for all the art. Maybe next time. And then bring family? Can't wait for your next trip. I mean you treat us every week (every week!) with a nice vlog and yet people complain. Too negative, too positive, do this dont do that. I wonder how you keep up with us. On to 12k subscribers! ❤

Heather - is a plant species (Lat. Calluna vulgaris) in the Ericeae "tribe"in the Ericales order. "Erica" would be a name for heather, too, and in Dutch it's "hei" or fully written "heide". That you recognize in the German name "Heidi". It's an evergreen shrub in the 8" to 20" range that wants an acidic soil and open sunny or moderate shade. Many "cultivars" are sold. And there also is a genus of Erica in the same tribe. The Latin word "erica" means heath or broom. Colours of flowers may vary between purple, mauve, pink, white. The plant produces a few specific (biochemical) compounds, one of which suppresses a parasite to bumblebees. Maybe therefore heather honey has a strong taste and sets. Several regions in the Netherlands have significant areas of heath (on the scale of this country ;) ).
The hills in the Veluwe are the end muraines formed in the last ice age. That's the reason why there also are bolders between the sand. BTW, the statue at 10:01 used to stand in Rotterdam on the Coolsingel way back when.. Those rings are a scam if you ask me...
If your going to Arnhem (where i live) go have a drink at Brasserie de Boerderij. Beutiful outside area to sit in the middel of Sonsbeek park (small beautiful walk from the city centre). And if you have the time, make walk through Meinerswijk (great nature, but dogs are not allowed.
NOBODY is impressed by our largest waterfall! I would have loved to hear the well-deserved jokes about it; it truly is so underwhelming that it almost becomes a must-see again.
Love the video. Katrina and Nate, you should have a look at Nunspeet, Gelderland. There is a nice hotel 'Villa Vennedal' and closer to nature you can't be. If you go by train it's easy to walk to the hotel. They have several times a theme days arrangements like French days or Italian days .. or other countries theme days. I've been there several times. They rent bikes too. It's an unforgettable experience
Oh in Loenen, there is a nice papierfabriek you should visit if you area again someday. I’m not sure anymore but I think it’s the oldest one (that uses a windmill) still in activity , from the 17th century. You can have a guided tour for free as long as you buy the entrance ticket. I did it two years ago with a friend, it was just the two of us, and we learned a lot and it was really amazing, not boring at all and then at the shop you can buy some papers that are made of different kinds of flowers or fruits, and my favorite piece is a bookmark made of elephant poop, yes, I’m not even kidding. Veluwezoom is not difficult to pronounce. For English speakers it is phonetically something like Vayluwezoam, where the ay is the same sound as the ay in the girl’s name Fay, the u is the same as the u in during and the oa sounds the same as the oa in road. So it is that easy to pronounce.
It's a little more difficult to get to for tourists who are staying in Amsterdam, too. We feel lucky to have been able to experience it in person! Thanks for watching.
Ticks are a thing in this country. Pretty much anywhere with tall grass and bushes. They can transmit Borellia (Lyme) and FSME (tick-borne encephalitis). Encephalitis is rare im the NL, Lyme isn’t though. After a day out and about take a shower, check yourself for ticks, or better still, let someone check you, wash the clothes you were wearing and you should be okay. Ticks need about a full day (24 h) to dig themselves into the skin before they can get to the blood. Remove them before they reach the blood and no transmission has occurred. Also the wolves are a real thing. Ten years ago we had no wolves (last wolf was shot in the 1800s) but since the late 10’s wolves have migrated from Germany and settled, mainly in the Veluwe region. They’re quite elusive and not that many, only around 50 individuals.
I highly doubt that there are 50 wolves in the Hoge Veluwe Park at the same time. The area is not large enough to support that many of them. For example, Yellowstone park is 163 times the size of the Hoge Veluwe Park and has only 9 packs and a total of 94 wolves. It’s 55 km2 vs 8983 km2. The Dutch government identified a total of 51 wolves that have been in the Netherlands, but might not still be around as they have been identified over a period of 4 months.
@@davidc.w.2908 the 50 individuals includes wandering wolves and is for the whole country. However, say 20 were wandering and have left again, that probably means others have temporarily wandered into the country after that, keeping the total at around 50 wolves in the country. I reckon there are about 20-30 wolves residing in the Veluwe region, a few more in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the rest are wandering wolves. But that’s just a hunch and I could be totally wrong. I’m not an expert by far!

@@davidc.w.2908 we are talking about hills not mountains buddy, and the south of Limburg has hills, so..
@@BR81-iv6lt yeah, be happy with those hills buddy. I’m sorry if I stepped on your giant toes 😂
Nice vlog again. Beautiful Dutch landscape and yes, the museum is nice. But selling rings? Pls don't do this, it's so cheap and it ruins the vlog. By the way, only caged birds wear rings.😎
So Dutch to moan about this, you can skip it if you want. They need to earn some money right?
@@Arijje So Dutch to moan about this reaction, you can skip it if you want 😎
@@tvaandering sorry no. Not only caged birds wear rings. Those who ever had rings might have been birds that were treated for an injury and those that were ringed for research on migration patterns and other scientific research.
@@Paul_C I'm playing a bit Paul
We like the rings. For real. They offered us a deal to advertise a bit, and we are doing it for a bit, on our free RUclips videos. I totally understand disliking ads… I do too. It’s just part of the free content ecosystem.
First :)
Or were we actually first? 🤪
Free bicycle ? No, you pay a lot to go on that park. It is no real nature, with a fence around it. National park Hoge Veluwezoom is much better, has a nice area hills around the Posbank! And a lot to do, Castle Rosendael for example.
Both de Hoge Veluwe and Veluwezoom are largely man-made. There is hardly any "real" nature in the Netherlands left. All of it was created, altered, or at least became what they are now due to human intervention.
We went there too in the last part of the video. Both parks are beautiful, and great escapes from the city.
