Ian could read the phone book and it would be interesting...
We all love Uncle Ian.
I need Ian to read audio books. Listening to him speak in this video is just... lovely.
Some of my favorite Tull songs are just Ian, his voice and his acoustic guitar.
So thanks for posting this.
Ian Anderson's a fantastic acoustic guitarist. A lot of listeners assume that Martin Barre covered all the six-string duties in Jethro Tull. However, he primarily played electric while Ian tracked the acoustics.
I've always enjoyed Ian's musical skills, I did always particularly enjoy the acoustic interludes. Tull always were different musically from their 70's peers, and I liked that they provided that variety in music, it's proven it's timeless lasting power, ah the flute, always magical when used on melodic leads, or in harmony, Tull is one of a kind
Great to hear someone had enough sense not to follow the crowd and do drugs like some idiot lemming. All hail to Ian Anderson. Jethro Tull rules!
Yeah same with Ted ' I Don't Do Drugs' Nugent, and George Harrison despised LSD. Sorry but bullshit
Scott L "Great to hear someone didn't do drugs"? He didn't mention anything about doing or not doing drugs in this video. Maybe you're projecting your own 'war on drugs' twisted mindset here? Yep, most likely. Oh-and one other thing: I'm very glad to see so many states legalizing marijuana in USA! :-D
Deschutes Maple Recent politics aside, Ian Anderson has stated that he did not, in fact use recreational drugs.
Danny Mandeville
Oh yeah-and Bill Clinton 'didn't inhale'!
Once again, I have no desire to discuss anything of a political nature, and for that reason this conversation is over.
"...Also plays the acoustic guitar." amongst nearly every instrument on the face of the earth!
I love his voice and his sense of humor. He is such a cute old man. :)
...and of course Ian has interviewed himself, on these very pages, here on the RUclips site in fact, and it must be said that it is a rather interesting - indeed, surreal - experience to see one Ian interviewing another Ian; watching him switch seats 'twixt one and the other is a delight to behold: truly a masterpiece; life imitating art (itself a depiction of that very fundamental thing we call life - from which it sprang) and I wonder if got he that very idea from reading your comment here.
Thank You Mr Anderson. Wish we could bring back those good old days, I used to sip on wine and listen to your music, Those were the days. Best to you Sir.
WE'RE NOT WORTHY!
WE'RE NOT WORTHY!
I saw Jethro Tull 3 times back in the 70's. What great concerts they were. I guess this makes me an old fogy too, but what a pleasure it was to hear them play live. Ian and the band were playing their hearts out. What a fine, skilled, talented and creative person he is. Don't ever stop Ian!
Ian anderson is so ridiculously humble, he's one of if not the best rhythm guitarsists in history. And he has the best right hand in all of guitar.
i just love his talking voice, his melody and his clever english....aaahhh...anyway...he is just clever and writes clever music! basta!
If you didn't know who he was Ian Anderson talks and acts and looks like he's a banker
Are you sure you mean Banker.😂🤣😂
Fun, smart, talented and unassuming. What more can you ask for in a musician?
English professor.
English professor.
Ian Anderson would make a great comedian.
He does make a great comedian.
It's a f--ing sin that Jethro Tull is not in the R&R Hall of fame......did you see the inductees this weekend ? What a joke....Rush ?// come on man !!
Show us a really interesting guitar, capo in place, an interesting guy - then no playing!!!!!
Found it: I switched to guitars from Andrew Manson, an English luthier, who works in Devon producing hand-made guitars. They are based on traditional designs by the Martin Company as well as on the ideas of Andy and myself. The sexy little parlour guitars are not at all common in pop and rock music. The instrument is a 3/4 size parlour guitar based on a French design of 150 years ago. I sent Andrew Manson the drawings and measurements and even he was surprised at how well it played and sounded.
The title should be "Ian Anderson Of Jethro Tull D'Addario Guitar String Commercial"
I really want to know the name/model of this guitar... I saw him playing it live in Oslo, amazing sound!!! Did he say something like "french parlour, 18th century"??? It looks like a Martin, but I can't see the name....
Just seen Jethro Tull last night at Croydon Fairfield Halls - fantastic show despite Ian suffering a throat infection. We were lucky enough to have backstage passes and met both Ian and Martin - gentlemen both.
What a night!
Thanks for all these years buddy
as ian ages, his guitars grows smaller
So let me see, all i have to do in order to sound like Ian Anderson is to purchase a Set of D'Addario Strings.😂🤣😂
Not much on his playing. Pity, because he's a way better acoustic guitarist than flautist. Some of his work on Thick as a Brick in particular is great - his strumming on that is as fluid as I’ve heard anywhere.
Ian... you are a wonderful guy - thanks for all your music over theyears... been playing look into the sun and we used to know at the local coffee shop lately to much acclaim... God bless
@lowlypeasant
He was born in Scotland but moved to the Blackpool region fairly early in life, I believe.
Brilliant artist who has always remained an accessible human being. Dig.
He doesn't really talk about playing guitar. Misleading title.
Really????
ian, your wonderful, but just play the goddamn guitar
good player but no insights gained
from this
Most of Jethro Tull's best work is acoustic
I was at the Shea Stadium show he references!
Ian is a great acoustic guitar player, but there's not much here of interest in this video. He uses some company's guitar strings. This is basically just a commercial - a boring one.
If you didn't know him, at first glance Ian Anderson looks, Acts and talks like he's probably a Banker or the owner of several Banks.
Ian's a sweaty guy
What make of guitar is this?
cool
Ian has played on the David Lettermen show but that was quite a while ago. I don't remember if he was interviewd. I do remember his views on drugs and the story he told about Led Zeplin via you tube the band with whom he was on tour with early in JT. It was quite interesting but I was dissappointed he wasn't a drug freak like me. Well after all, all that comes from somewhere other then superficial influences. Got Jesus.?
I do not like daddarios. but I cant find anything really better than that, which sucks.
of course he uses really hard gauge which hurts my fingers, too. I am a whiner.
Very eloquent man.
There is a Clydesdale farm outside of Cumberland, MD in the boonies. I drive by occasionally and think of the green cd. which is when I clanked in and there-to-the present bought every one(cd).
Ian is one of those people that you can just listen to about anything and it always comes out interesting. I maintain he would be a superb host of a talk show...but then again, he would have to have a guest as interesting as HE is. Ian interviewing Ian? Hmm...
LOL as if he pays for strings; they probably pay him! Of course he deserves it!
@znarf541 I think he's one of the 10 richest guys in UK. He's like, richer than the queen.
I love him, he's a genius, and he can be as mean as he wants... lol.
...Not so much that they break (which they of course do), but they get grungy and tarnished, which makes them sound dull and muddy.
Thank you, Ian Anderson! You were the inspiration that made me become a musician!
I want a parlor guitar because of Ian Anderson
Cornelius Maximillian
I believe unless I'm mistaken your quoting Socrates???
I have to say that even the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has lost it's credibility. In my opinion it's been reduced to just The Hall of Whatever the Wind Brings In. If I were Ian Anderson I wouldn't want to be associated with what it's become.
You mean an Ian Anderson REALLY EXISTS?!? I thought that name was just a fictional character of ancient literature they used for a band name...very nice guitar tips and thanks :)
Never heard anyone else insist on right angled jacks before. I've thought this for years and wondered if I was nuts.
From Asunción, Paraguay. This oldie fan.
@scotsmaninusa then why does'nt he speak scottish? And Anderson would be a Scandanavian name..no?
Is that a Martin guitar? What model is it?
The acoustic model. 😃
" right -angled " ... 'Jack -In-The-Green' ?
I always thought he was English. Certainly not a Scotch accent.
I understand that you are a musician very busy, and I love your music, I'm you're fan, but for this video, you're better stay bused at you're composition of very good music that you're prepared to have. Sorry if my English is not so good but I'm sure that you understand what I wish to say to you
Rippoff...not one strum or pick of the guitar
Was this on TV?
Thanks!
This is awsome!!
UW2
What a great man...hasn't the Queen made him Lord or Baron Ian by now? Cheers for the up.
Ian Anderson interview Ian Anderson on his own thickasabricktwo channel!!! :¬)
What was the name of that lil guitar?don't matter but I'm curious
as long as it has D'Addario strings on it
What a wonderful intelligent person he is with so much talent. What a great voice - both talking and singing.
Good stuff... always love it when IA reveals tidbits of unscripted JT minutia.
Listening to him speak made me wonder: If a Brit adheres to a "shedule", do his children go to shool?
Anyway, I think IA is one of the best acoustic guitarists in music today.
He from Scotland
Product support (free strings). I could use some product support.
We all understand name recognition is a 'Benefit'.
This was true five years ago, but will it stand up to time? After all, things change, don't they....
Yes he does. And not just one type. He especially excels at the skin variety.
I change my strings once a year, whether they need it or not!
Just bought 11 gauge D’Addario strings for my J-200. Wow! What an amazing tone. I love them.
@Vipguy2003 Just a minor point, he lives in Scotland now, but originally he is from Blackpool in Lancashire....but hey, who cares, he's a genius & it doesn't matter where he comes from.
Chris Bingham originally he was born in Scotland. His family moved to Blackpool when he was around 8.
Could have offered a lesson and make the video worth listening to.
Don't like to spend money unless we can possibly avoid it? Isn't he one of the richer men in England, Scottland?
Owns a shrimp boat.
ONE OF THE REASONS HES RICH IS HE IS CHEAP BY HIS OWN ADMISSION! . HES WORTH 20 MILLION AND IS WORRIED ABOUT SAVING MONEY . HOW TRUMP OF HIM!! THIS IS WHY RICH PEOPLE GET RICH AND STAY RICH THEY ACCOUNT FOR EVERY PENNY. ITS CALLED BEING A GOOD STEWARD
The only strings I use....
Menos rollo ... y mas manteca al bollo ... (Less roll, and butter to the bun ... more) jajajaja
put him with Alex Lifeson of Rush, and that would be a funny combination
beautiful gtr and wonderful musician.
What make of guitar is that?
LOL NEVER PLAYS THE STRINGS, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
@Vipguy2003 by "mean" he meant "cheap".....
This was great ! Thank you for sharing.
Oh Ian, I use elixers, when affordable...
Playing guitar? No
Thank you for the hours of Joy and Freedom Ian
@rainharper62 That's a fact, jack.
damn, I change mine ever year or so; no wonder I am so shite
Changing strings is like replying to comments... Every 7 years is good enough.
And he has a great sense of humor!
Could someone tell me what guitar that is he's holding.
@Werner Voss thank you
@sunboyfun Extremely well said !
He has interviewed himself lol
D'Addario strings.
doesn't he play flute?
Jones Beach !!!!!!!!
I love you Ian.
Living legend!!!!
He is a God!
Ian Rules!
great speaking !
I am looking for a similar guitar, really like the smaller body, does anyone know exactly the make and model that Ian plays ?
This guitar is a special for Ian built guitar by Andy Manson.
