I knew Ryan would be a Slytherin! Very fitting. Also, regarding the Gaunts, yes it’s Voldemort’s mother’s (Merope) side of the family. She was a squib (unable to perform magic at all) but was skilled at making potions. She was disowned after she married Tom Riddle Sr (a muggle) but died after giving birth to Tom Riddle jr (Voldemort).
Dumbledore explains to harry that she was able to perform magic just fine after her father (and brother I think) were out of her life. It has something to do with her emotional state under a very abusive father. Or something to that effect according to the books.

The use of "they" or "they've" maybe because it was more convenient for the devs and voice actors rather than having go into excruciating detail recording voice lines tailored to male or female protagonist, I could be wrong.
