The single most impressive thing about this are the no evade window i-frame hops. Thats gotta take seriously god level skills

I find this kind of video super interesting. Iceborne CB is probably my favourite iteration on any weapon in the series and it's impressive to see a fight that is not a higly synchronized and relatively scripted multiplayer fight with a great build but "just" someone who is very, very good with that weapon against that monster. So much fight knowledge and good decision making on display.
Yeah it's really cool to see the monster actually attack in one of these videos for once instead of being knocked down 99% of the time. It shows a lot of skill when you know to switch from being proactive to reactive.
That is the whole point of Monster Hunter... I don't even see IB as a MH game
@@DK-ep2ov I mean, I love IB for a lot of what it is, but I do feel you. I miss the classics and while I do appreciate the menuing quality of life changes in Gen 5 and such, a lot of the hunting has just gotten too convenient for my taste. I hope Wilds will take a few steps back in terms of hunter power creep and will require more trade offs again.
@@Norkas_0 Really? Aside from being able to restock from camp and removing hot and cold drinks from rise all the quality of life changes are very good.

That's the beauty of this video. It proves you don't need meta gear to get good times, just better up time on your overall DPS. With even just a FEW meta skills you can get that same time, a lot more comfortably.
Me: takes 20-40 minutes on hunts with gear and on occasion getting carried

Honestly as fun and entertaining as the synchronized fights are to watch there is something special about this type of content. Side note, I would love to see a blooper reel assuming you didn't just chad it out and do it in one take.

Bro not only that the charge blade is my absolute favourite weapon, I almost exclusively watch charge blade clips and I,ve seen a lotta geniuses on my way. But you are the pinnacle of every charge blade user and what we aspire to become, thanks for all the hard work that led into this artistic piece of brilliance! I declare that u mastered one of the hardest challenges a cb user could ever face!!!
That was clean!!! Don't think I've ever see a fight be so meticulous, could see HC planning the timing of every swing, charge and block. Watching every tell Nerg had to punish or dance around, honestly that was a thing of beauty. Who knew that taking your time with a fight and not just spamming the attack or roll button might be the best way to play solo haha

The answer is yes, if you're actually good at the game. I am completely vindicated. So many people try to say you need to build for DPS to kill monsters in a timely manner... Always telling me they needed to tenderize 6 times in a hunt, and wear the highest DPS skills to not get 25+ Minute hunts... No bro, you just need to actually attack the monster. It's an action game not an MMO.
@@robotoboy30people have that mindset out of tradition (and because they like seeing big numbers).
In the slower paced games, where damage uptime was arguably less, it made sense to maximize the few openings you had by increasing your damage as much as possible. That was also possible because the monsters were slower, predictable and, thus, were "easy" to no hit (look at FU, for example).
You're right. In the 2 most recent titles (and arguably 4U/GenU as well), damage uptime is king because of the sheer amount of tools there are to keep hitting the monster. Thus, to the average Joe, it's "irrelevant" to maximize damage if your perspective goal is to be as efficient as possible, and the best approach is to simply keep hitting the monster. The ideal scenario is still full damage build+max damage uptime for the most amount of dps (dps is all that matters speedrunwise), but it is by no means "" realistic "".
However, what's more fun: dealing baby hits that have a humongous dps, or dealing a humongous amount of damage in a single hit/opening, even if it leads to less dps?
This matter also involves the "rhythm" of the hunts, so it's a very delicate question to just answer it as "🤓You should go for max damage and dps" or "🤓What matters is that you outlast the monster". It's still fun to think about it though.
As a charge blade user for years, guard points are still always chefs kiss.

Good lord, I've never seen Ruiner Nergi take such a savage beating before. When I do this hunt with my charge blade build, I take damn near the whole 50 minutes :D
This is pretty impressive. Those Guard Points were spectacular, and those side-steps were awesome too. As a CB main, I can see the skill that is on display. Very well done
Damn the Evade Window 1 and Guard 5 did their job alright. I was wondering how he's going to fare with the chip damage, but the charm is there so everything is gonna be all right.
Hi TDS enjoyed this CB run. Very impressive. I had question is it possible to do the master rank arena quest 4 (acidic glavenus) using the CHARGE BLADE SOLO under 5-7mins ?? After looking the CB build they make us use for the arena quest 4 i am not sure if it can be done or not.
I once took on Arch Tempered Lunastra without armor on a dare. Charm, yes. Mantles, yes. Armor, no. Fifteen minutes and two carts later, and Lunastra was down.
This is two hundred times cooler than that run though.

Hey TDS, I have an interesting idea for a video you could make about Sunbreak. Do you think you could make a guide on how to use Followers as effectively as possible? Say for example you’d want your followers focus on healing you if your getting smacked around during most of the hunt, or if you would prefer them to focus on dealing as much damage to the monster as possible. A guide such as that would be a great asset to players who would want to use them more strategically. And figuring out the right combinations of Followers and their equipped weapons would help for different tasks. Of course, this is just an idea of mine. You don’t have to make a guide to make a guide if you don’t want to. It’s entirely up to you. 😉
Holy shit, what a run. Even the Moxie comes in clutch! And the green sharpness in the end got me stressed out lol! I think that's also why he electrified the sword the first time during the run, right? Because it can't bounce when it's buffed? Not too sure.

A lot of people here are being mocking for the couple hits HC took in this run. And the fact that Felyne Moxie activated. But I think they fail to understand that HC has 0 damage mitigation without armor and even the small swipes designed to do chip damage to you when you play normally (aka wearing armor) and this is completely different.

Did they change the "bounce area" (is what im calling it) of his horns? I remember you had to aim for right inbetween the horns in order for you not to bounce. This was VERY early on after its release. Anyone else know?

For context I'm returning to MH after 4yrs and I'm about to hit MR6 Quests.
The video is awesome and I feel like I'm not remember some combat skills.
1) How does the CB have a spinning axe head?
2) How do you perform a little side hop after the charge at 0:22?
3) What is the back handed Axe attack at 3:05?
4) I forget how to do the 1-phial elemental axe swing at 3:10?
5) Why did they not use SAED?
6) Why did they only charge their sword once at the end?

1.) It's a new move of CB introduced in Iceborne - Power Axe mode. This mode charges your axe and empowers you axe moves. This mode only requires you having phials available to activate , charging your shield however makes it stronger so you should still charge the shield. You can access this mode by pressing "middle mouse button" for mouse and keyboard or "L2" for controller (iirc) during the animaiton of either SAED or AED.
2.) You literally charge phials then evade while holding either left or right direction keys/input (relative to your character).
3.) That's called the Savage Axe Slash. The very move that makes your axe charged that I mentioned in no.1.
4.) If your shield is charged and you want to AED(1-phial axe swing) just press "back direction(relative to your character) + triangle or left click" while performing SAED.
5.) Most likely because there are any safe opening for it or savage axe mode axe attacks just do more damage. Not sure I ain't any genius about the optimal dmg combo. I just use things that I know will work at a certain window or opening.
6.) This is just my guess but charging the sword makes it so that the sword won't bounce(like having mind's eye). They charged it because they thought "The monster is already near death so I'll just charge the sword instead of sharpening".
NOTE: If you still don't know about CB guard points you should learn them. You can search YT for Guard point tutorials. How well you do and use guard points is a good measure for how good you are at using CB. Guard points let's you charge your phials a bit, guard better against stronger attacks and even makes it so you have a faster access to the strongest moves of CB's kit.

@@devontufts1291 Hi! Just stumbled upon your comment and the reply above. First of all, thanks to the guy who answered for helping out. Been busy these past few weeks but your questions caught my eye. Most of the answers are fine but I'll give my own answers for points 5 and 6 just to help elaborate and clarify.
5) I was testing out no armor SAED on Nergi and in theory it's actually not bad of an option per se; I did a no armor run with SAED before on my own channel that was during Safi Meta, about 3 mins slower than this run but was good for the time. However, I've found that SAED playstyle is unfavorable compared to savage when it comes to breaking spikes with more consistency and precision, as well as taking way longer time to rack up KOs which is huge on this fight. Theoretically, you can still do well with SAED no armor but it's way less consistent and prone to carting more frequently. Generally in Iceborne, however, Savage Axe is far superior against most, if not 90+-% of the monster roster due to its constant and consistent damage output and stronger lockdown potential. Use whatever playstyle you want in casual play though or whatever is your preferred playstyle! Having fun is more important than shaving off a few seconds or minutes when you're not speedrunning.
6) Oh boy, this could turn into a thesis essay so I'll try to shorten it. The point he made about charging instead of sharpening is, I suppose, partially true but not the actual reason for that play. I did a sword charge attack in that moment because in the split second of me noticing Nergi got flinched and seeing how my phials were at yellow, I reloaded my phials and gauged based on the time frame I had between his recovery animation and his next attack, I would be able to do a sword charged slam which is a high damage option coming out of reload animation. The next reason why I did the attack is because I know after years of practice that Nergi would most of the time respond with claw jabs or his head slam/charge attacks whenever you're facing his front, and also I knew if I did a sword slam attack in this timeframe it would either trigger a counter punch attack if he did a jab (which happened exactly how I wanted in this run) which is safe to guard point or did a head charge which will give me ample time to do a guard point safely whilst doing optimal damage. You can see how I'm constantly standing in his face and baiting out his counter punches throughout the video, this is because that counter attack is a huge opening especially for no armor runs, as it gives you a few axe hits in the timeframe. It's kinda crazy how much you can write from analyzing a single interaction in the video, let alone the many more intricate monster interactions in the run.

@@HCZS_MonsterHunter Hey thank you for the great breakdown. I learned so much in the little time since I wrote my initial comment. I can't believe I forgot savage axe for so long and I still can't believe how little I under use it.
I'm still stuck in maybe the casual mindset of attacking in structured patterns rather than reacting dynamically. I would really like to be better at that. For example I always would charge my sword after my shield immediately 99% of the time and now I don't use the sword charge 99% of the time which I think has allowed me to be more dynamic in that part of my pattern.
maybe ended a bit early with my comment about struggles. But I think I'm terrible solo, not because I can't do it but I feel so vulnerable when I start going for axe attacks, and my s&s isn't very threatening.
When I'm in coop I can usually unsheathe the axe when health gets dire. In s&s I can roll into the side or tail of the enemy and get charged so I can start powering up the Shield and SAED.

literally Nergigante has no chance on u bruh, does this superskill of urs -will it work for low level weapons? cuz fatalis weapon is so OP that even its presence topples nergigante so many times giving the player much more window to splash much damage overtime,. will his convo and everything work with bouncing/deflecting weapon cuz bruh i can see his sharpness gets down to lower as green sharpness and also nubbies here its gud if someone can explain
I have done all of MR in HR armor, I think no armor would be quite a fun thing to have tried :P woulda had so few skills. Just the weapon's
