    Here in Australia, particularly where I live, Queensland, police have a policy to follow, that essentially weighs the safety of the pursuit against the safety of the public. The officers involved in the pursuit, and the other police in the office managing the pursuit, have to decide whether the pursuit it safe to continue, what they are actually pursuing the driver for - is it for an on the spot traffic offence, or is the car being pursued actually wanted for something? If it is the former, almost always the pursuit will either be discontinued, or will never even start. They will generally give chase for about 30 seconds then decide to discontinue. In this case, they will simply go to the driver’s house later and have a chat, which usually involves the handcuffs and a charge for fail to stop, which is a serious offence generally called Skye’s Law, after a little girl who was killed during a police pursuit.
    You can watch more about Australia’s pursuit tactics here: ruclips.net/video/dhM_-D__Eec/видео.html

      Guy on the motorcycle at night, and the guy who escaped through the drainage pipe. Just a week or two ago police quit chasing a guy where they supposedly have his real name. Not sure what happened to him. So two or three that I know of. There was another motorcycle one, but the video I saw was from his camera, so his "escape" might have been faked.

      It depends on the situation and era. A number of the rum runners during prohibition became some of the best drivers in the US professional circuits after prohibition and their mechanics that modified their cars to out run police later revolutionized motor sports thus police hardly caught them.

    The obsession with L.A. car chases is caused by bumbling law enforcement. The cops would rather follow someone for two hours than do what is necessary to end the pursuit. I think it might be a liberal thing based on government official's desire to not have anyone get hurt even if it kills them.

    • @mikeelek9713
      @mikeelek9713 2 года назад +1

      I believe that this is the issue. The police are hamstrung in their response. Once you steal a car or initiate the high-speed chase, you are 100% responsible for what happens next.

  • @belcopride
    @belcopride 6 лет назад +2

    Some police forces around the world have an outright ban on pursuits because consequentially there is very little justification, especially if someone is killed in the process.

    People seem to forget about the LAPD and Rodney King. That's one reason why it became a thing to not pull over and comply. Don't also forget that the LAPD is notorious for dropping off gang members in rival neighborhoods instead of taking them to jail or the hospital. And now, with the more recent cop shootings; it's not hard to see why criminals don't pull over. But once we have self driving vehicles, it'll all end.

  • @Mattyew
    @Mattyew 6 лет назад +3

    Awesome video...I would add two elements of car chases I would add are: desperation and adrenaline. Desperation: because criminals are to some extent, the result of a difficult and harsh world, and without money you resort to messed up choices. Not everyone has an equal upbringing and education and access to money so when people run from the police sometimes I think "i hope they get away" even though I know they should just stop and face their consequences. Adrenaline: because when it kicks in hard like in a chase, you literally aren't thinking straight and that's why sometimes chases are called off, because the driving becomes just so erratic.

    Here in Norway the police stops pursuing when it gets dangerous for others. You guys across the ocean might wanna think about it as well, especially when 90% of pursuits are for non-violent crimes? Pfff. I think it's more about showing off and being power thirsty, than actually enforcing the law.

      Just sit back and relax most of the time you know whos driving anyway just wait and get him while his not in a car. Most countrys the police stay back and use helicopter to monitor the car. then when he stops thy arest him/her. Easy. :D

    • @VincentCheung92

      Most pursuit don't happen for petty crimes. They happen when either the person is already driving like a maniac, drunks and reckless drivers trying to get out of a ticket (nonviolent), or bigger crimes like bank robberies or murders

    • @BlueinanotherLanguage

      Believe it or not, the LAPD has a very strict pursuit policy, they won't just up and chase you for anything. They also have 19 helicopters with at least two out on patrol on any given time. If ever a pursuit get's too dangerous they just have the airship monitor the fugitives till it's safe to resume a ground chase again.

    There's those who think that police should suspend chases and let them go to avoid public danger, but if they do that, the attitude will be, "Lets go rob a bank Ralph, as soon as the police start chasing us, they'll stop, then were free"

    such chases shouldn't be necessary, if your tax-dollars were put to good use, and a lot of lives could potentially be saved.
    What you don't want with any chase, is that it is in a residential area, in a city, where there are a lot of people.
    Then why don't they protect cities just to do that?
    How much does one metal pole that rises from the ground with kevlar nets (motorbikes) cost, that you can install at the top of every off-ramp on the freeway? Then, when you have that, from the moment you are on the freeway, you're screwed, in front of you the cops can create a traffic jam, and they arrest you in a safe way for them. We have that technology for years, yet they still remain in favor of dangerous chases put everybody at risk. They use their cars as weapons, literally running over a person, yet when we even touch an officer with our car, even not on purpose, we even get attempted murder thrown at us, or aggravated assault. A typical double standard when it comes to the law, and as usual, that standard is in favor of those who are the puppets of the executive power of the government, the police. Strange, you have to be a criminal to enforce the law.

    Stop acting like there's something wrong with car chases. They are far from the most dangerous type of crime and rarely does anyone other than the person running end up hurt. God forbid people try to put some excitement in their lives. God bless the police chase

      @mattheweggers7745 6 лет назад +12

      Except thousands of dollars of damage is done, and the person running most likely cannot pay it. Just hitting one car (which some runners do multiple times) usually costs over 10,000 dollars to fix, and who do you think is going to pay it.

    This is exactly why we shouldn't be pursuing them for non violent crimes. It's absolutely ridiculous. Most of the time they even have PLATES, copy it down and give them a fine later, simple as that. The few people who don't have a plate, just let them go if they don't stop. Only serious criminals should be granted an exception for a full pursuit.

    I remember watching the live footage of Daniel Victor Jones shooting himself in the head on the local TV news. I was sixteen years old. The helicopter crew turned their cameras away about half a minute too late to avoid broadcasting (around 4-5 PM) Jones sending a bullet through his skull live on TV. It was chilling. I will never forget it.
