Here are the prices I found online: 1) Chelsea Hotel: no price given 2) Gotham: all cocktails are $21 3) Le Rock: all cocktails are $22 4) Tigre: no prices given (or anything else, not even an address) 5) Sunken Harbor: all martinis are $20 6) Dante: $20 7) Bemelman's Bar: $35-$65 8) Aretsky's Patroon: $19 (I realized I missed one, but Shteyngart's voice was so slurred when he said the name of the bar and, unlike all the other bars, there was no sign shown.)
I just read the article, and was tickled to see this video while scrolling through RUclips. I’ve never been a martini drinker, but this has made me want to be. I had no idea there were so many iterations of the stories drink.
he made cheeky remarks about her age and went a step too far! it was all in jest though, he tells the story in a really entertaining way during his Stephen Colbert interview
Few places on earth offer a better selection of martinis to be savored. Nothing better than NYC. Add some sushi bar hopping in between and it's a life well lived. As a purist, it's gin done simply. There is no more elegant beverage than the beautifully balanced martini. Fun piece!
I'm glad that he skipped over some of the best Brooklyn cocktail bars. They are crowded enough on Fridays and Saturdays without the boring Manhattan lawyer-doctor crowd braving the subway ride over.
As a New Yorker (and reader of) and an avid Martini drinker, I wish this was a better piece. Drunk or not, if you’re exploring or honoring the Martini, you should have spent a few more beats at Bemelman’s. More shtick than substance.
Shteyngart's liver is the true hero of this story!
His advice at the end….priceless. 😂
The fun part is when the martini inspires you to do more drugs
This is my favorite New Yorker video since that one about the messy book store

Thank you, I was wondering and guessing 20-30 bucks.
Duke's Martini at Chelsea Hotel is $31

Will forever be a fan of Gary after watching his episode of Talking Watches on Hodinkee. Chin chin!
I LOVE this tour!
Beautiful piece. Now I want a Martinez!
High praise for Monkey 47!
Wow, what did Kieran do to get a drink thrown at him?! Lmao

More of this please! 🍸
This is my next NYC tour, definitely 🎉!
I wish you had included the prices (one martini, tax and tip) at the various bars you visited [for those of us not employed by The New Yorker].
New Yorker here who loves martinis - a $16 martini in Manhattan is a deal, $22-28 is more likely price.
Few places on earth offer a better selection of martinis to be savored.

Fun piece!
that was wonderfulllllllllll
Respect! I have one vesper Martini and that is enough! 😂
The Polo Bar has some fantastic martinis
Dababy just randomly pulling up 😂😂😂
In the best way possible this feels like it was shot and edited in 2005 like some long lost Bourdain segment

He’s like a drunk jeff bloom
If you like dry - minetta is great. Maybe it was the bartender that night. They have more to offer than the burger!
Martinis are strong cocktails. They were most likely intoxicated as I would be too if I tested samples
What were you drinking at 1:30?
GERRI!
At $25+ per drink, that's one expensive bar crawl
What’s the gin in the dark blue bottle at 6:00? The one he said he would drink on the rocks. Thank you!
Monkey 47
Dedication to research...🫡
just goes to prove, the streaming tv execs are asleep at the wheel considering Gary doesn't have a food & whine show yet.
Does Shteyngart always look smashed?
I'm confused by the salt water solution? Why? How much? This seems like critical information for the Dukes martini, please help!
Monkey 47 is the best gin of all time. Don’t come for me 😮
Ketal One please! no gin
Six martini's Gary! ?????? That Russian liver comes through.
Shytengart has a smirk begging for a smack. He’s a one schtick writer.
I’m a vicarious drunk
Welp we got a case study of a drinking problem longitudinally
Yes, but pretty short for a longitudinal study.
Sour Apple Martini is my favorite!
Amor Towles at Chelsea Hotel :D How cliche
True, but he's a great writer. I'm reading one of his books now.
✌🏽🍸✌🏽
Vodka better! Nothing else but ice. .

he looks like a martini
What a perfectly tone deaf video for a nation on the edge of a depression.
If ya gotta go, go drunk! 😵💫🥴
no one gives a sh*t
What a horrible video.
