I don't get it either. I think it's a great idea. Seeing their unique Jetsons style universe die at the end as they have to leave it might be an emotional high point in the movie.

Yes, especially when we've already SEEN Norrin Radd onscreen and introducing a DIFFERENT herald of Galctus, more casual fans that have seen the other FF movies would immediately know that Radd's Surfer herald isn't the only one.
It's GOOD to make decisions like that for the more casual fans. It's important to be able to convey that information in a way that SAVES screen time/dialogue.

I’m about up to here with the different Universe/Timeline shi7. Whoever planned this out really ignored the aspect of how that might get old/convoluted/finishing very quickly, not just due to marvel movies and series, but everyone else dipping their toe in.

I think the mic movies where boring due the characters not being that deep like Jane foster and captain marvel. The gender of the surfer doesn’t matter if they don’t give her a relationship due to this changing the dynamic a little. Jane and Thor have a boring love story

Norrin Radd: 1966, one of the most recognizable characters in the Marvel catalog
Shalla-Bal: Silver Surfer variant that only existed for six issues, a risky and slippery slope for obvious reasons
Alternate timeline: Makes them look creatively bankrupt for not coming up with a way to originate the team in the 616 in a way that creatively and cleverly explains where they've been in the MCU all this time.

Making it in the 616 universe would restrict them creatively regardless what are you talking about? Also this movie being in the multiverse saga makes sense creatively, are you dumb? They will be merged into a new world where all marvel characters exist simultaneously as if they were always there by the end of secret wars which is what they're leading to anyways lol.
Having the movie be in the 616 would've creatively restricted them though and we're in the proper saga to do this anyways we're they get more liberty to destroy or do whatever to their original universe. I don’t think you need to have paid attention to leaks to buy into the fact that this movie was going to be set in an alternate universe. It’s called the Multiverse Saga, and while they have introduced the concepts, they have not really sold the threat of incursions. They need to get that that plot moving for Secret Wars to really land when it gets here, establish the stakes and the dangers. A great way to do. That would be for a whole universe to go bye bye…and considering they are going to use variants from other Fox film franchises, it isn’t a stretch that they’ll bring a whole cast from a new “alternate universe” and have them stick around post Secret Wars. I also won’t be too surprised if a few other characters from alternate universes will stick around.
The FANTASTIC FOUR were supposed to be America’s answer to Soviet Union’s 1957 Sputnik launching. They were supposed to be the FUTURE of where America would be scientifically. Having a retro futuristic 60s is redolent of what the pulp fiction literature perceived what we would look like in the future 😊
While I don't particularly have a problem with this, I do feel bad for people that are big fans of some of these characters. Imagine your entire life Silver Surfer has been your favorite Marvel character and then they do his stories without even including him, and the only version of him you ever got was the Fox one.
Anyway, as I will always say: It's fine when they change things if it makes sense and makes the story better. If they are doing this because they plan to throw the character away and didn't want to waste Norrin Radd on that, that makes sense to me.
They should bring back #DougJones to reprise the Fox version in Secret Wars…

There was also the rumor that Sue Storm is supposed to be the main character. I like to consider myself neutral in the current culture wars, I like Sue Storm and I like Vanessa Kirby. But Sue Storm is like the least interesting character out of the bunch, IMO. I always felt like Ben Grimm and the Human Torch were the most popular, followed by Reed. From there, the kids are even more interesting then Sue. IDK maybe they can pull it off, but I'll wait and see.
If this movie underperforms I'm sure Kevin Feige will get fired.

It’s an agenda and they’ve told us it’s their agenda. So, we should take them at their word it’s their agenda because they’re doing it. Over and over and over and over again…
Hear me out Josh, what if they are starting in the 60s of main timeline and they attempt to explore the multiverse and then on return end up in the wrong universe for the duration of the sacred timeline and then just before it’s destroyed they figure out how to get back to main timeline at the end.

The last concern feels pretty silly because they would need to establish all of these characters before they could develop all of those other MCU character relationships. Considering the time travel aspect, you can bet that the movie will at least touch on a 1960s conception of family and then challenge that when they end up in a contemporary setting. And honestly, if they’re going to have these characters be from the 60’s it would be weird for them NOT to do that.

The REASON they have left F4 off the table for so long is how difficult it is to fit the F4 into the new version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And one of the main reasons when they have tried it has failed is that F4 universe stuff doesn’t fit within the new MCU.

If they wrote the story for f4 backwards in the sense of the start point being in the present time or at the time of secret wars, maybe they can create an awesome journey story with loss and creation that gets these characters to stand out and give them the same stakes as our favorites

I’m excited to be honest and it makes sense why they’re coming from another universe given that we are in the Multiverse saga. I can see why you’re concerned because it seems like they’re packing a whole lot into this one film but I think that they’re putting all the chips into this movie because they understand what it can be if it’s done, right. I think Marvel knows that they are in desperate need for a home-run so I think they’re trying to swing for one with this. It’s high risk, high reward.

I'm guessing the idea is that they'll travel to the main universe from their dying world, try to save people from the main universe before and going into Secret Wars, and then become properly integrated into whatever comes after

Why is it weird that they’ll be the only heroes in their universe? Wasn’t Tobey & Andrew the only heroes in theirs? They didn’t even know who the Avengers were.
This could all work, but it would require Marvel Studios adopting a completely different approach to how they make their films and tell their stories, which to be honest, I don’t see happening. There are literally thousands of films they could draw inspiration from, to establish the family dynamic and the world in the first act. If they want to do Stan Lee and Jack Kirby justice in terms of the family dynamic, they can. It’s just a matter of whether or not they want to.
Then there’s the visual stuff. Again, plenty of examples of how they could bring the psychedelic world and creatures Kirby created to the big screen. It also comes down to whether or not they’re willing to put themselves out there, take a risk, and do the comic books justice. I personally think they need to for FF. If they drop the ball on this one, a lot of fans (myself included) are going to stop watching MCU films in theaters.
I think that they just didn’t want to do an origin story and there’s no way the F4 can exist within the main 616 universe without doing another origin story
The age gap between Reed Richards and Sue Storm seemed weird in the 2005 movie…this movie there is double the age gap. Where do the go with this casting Pedro Pascal will be like 60 in ten years…do you spend money deaging the character?
The actor playing Sue isn't exactly a child or anything close to one, so I'm not overly bothered by this.

Would I have liked to see the classic silver surfer? definitely, but that wouldn't make the movie good either, that never helped Fantastic Four 2 be loved by fans and the public. What I ask most of the movie and Marvel is to see an interesting story and well written characters, Also, seeing all the rumors (reboot after secret wars and the F4 on another earth) I highly doubt that we will never see Norrin Radd. That said, I understand many of the different negative reactions(not the extreme moronic ones).
I don't even care that she's becoming a herald. Go for it. What I have an issue with is replacing the iconic Silver Surfer with her. Have them both for all I care. They could do an interesting and tragic cosmic level romance between them. Just give us a proper MCU Norrin Radd Silver Surfer in the MCU.

I think you are really forgetting that the fantastic four doesn’t really fit in a modern setting that’s why the fox movies didn’t work. But I think the harder issue is the continuity of the marvel cinematic universe basically can’t take in universe changes like the fantastic four being from the 616

I have never understood the argument that the Fantastic Four doesn't work in the modern setting. What exactly doesn't work about them in a world where something like Netflix's sci-fi adventure/family drama series Lost in Space exists and was popular? People still say that The Incredibles was the best Fantastic Four movie Fox never made. Are they somehow unfit for a modern setting because they're an in-tact and semi-stable nuclear family? A relatively stable family should never be considered "outdated," and even if it is, God forbid, there's nothing wrong with characters being aspirational. The original F4 movies weren't super successful because they weren't really good, not because they can't be done as a concept. The only issue is how they would connect and integrate Dr. Doom imo. The Fox movies tried to make him offbrand Norman Osborn (though I really like him in the second one), and they sorta did Millenial Norman Osborn in the failed Fox reboot. A crazy adventuring sci-fi family is entirely doable. You just have to both lean into the sci-fi and embrace the fact that they're a wholesome and loving family. "Subverting expectations" amd trying to make them anything other than what they are is just a one-way ticket to disaster because it totally strips away their appeal. Heck, even Interstellar proves it can be done. The family may not be together for most of the movie, but Interstellar is a legit high concept sci-fi movie, and love between family is an integral component of the story that helps ground the narrative.

OK, all MCU characters start on their own movie. It’s called origin story or whatever they will be with all of the characters that you’re clearly saying they won’t be in secret wars.
Aside from the casting of Pedro, which will be an open question until be see it, everything else is explainable by the fact that the FF haven’t been in the MCU from the beginning and too much time has passed to explain it away. Even if the FF had gotten stuck in another universe etc. back in the 60s someone would still remember them and therefore they would’ve need to have been mentioned at some point in the MCU. It’s much cleaner and easier to just have the FF start in another universe, destroy it, and have them join the main universe. Plus, Silver Surfer (Noran Rad) and Galactus will likely be done in the main universe, and at that point the FF can add some additional insight and knowledge as to how to deal with that situation. We have to wait and see, but no cause for alarm just yet……..

2) coming from another universe, based on Marvel's multi-verse theory...wouldn't this cause an incursion?
3) If Galactus is the villain...then is he the ONLY one throughout the multi-verse? Or, are their variants of him? And where's the MCU's version?

I couldnt agree more. I understand that Marvel, the movie producer is different from Marvel the comic producer and MARVEL as a company need to expand their I. P. So that more people will want to go see the movie to thesmaller amount who read the comics. I understand this. Its business 101. What i dont understand is casting an actor as one of your four main protagonists whos current age will make it almost impossible to get more than 4 or 5 movies from him. Marvel are apparently moving towards a soft reboot 20 year since they started, but pedro pascal is already of an age where youre going to have to reboot again sooner rather than later.
I think they probably will come back in secret wars, but I didn't think they will be bright into the main MCU..... They usually get the big actors for alternate dimension versions of the 616 characters.... This will just be the first time they show us the alternate versions first, and then have them die, just to show us the stakes of the incursions.... I ain't see how they are going to do the incursions with Loki fixing the timelines, so guess they will find another reason for all of the different worlds being threatened
Story and characters don't matter for Disney. It's all about agendas, as you can easily learn every time they speak on the red carpet.

Quantumania wasn't bad because it tried to go big, because it dealt with themes of family, or because it was explaining multiversal concepts. It was bad for the simple reason that Peyton ReEd is not a good director. All the Ant Man films have been lackluster, so giving a story like that to a director who's just not a strong visual storyteller was doomed to fail. The FF director already showed that he's up to the task by coming out of the gate with the strongest Marvel TV show from the start, so the comparisons to Quantumania are just kind of completely irrelevant.
Gearing up for Secret Wars, it'll be really dumb if all the AU characters we meet and stay around after are characters introduced in those movies, so having characters already in AUs beforehand that we can then cross over into the Secret Wars event and the new MCU makes sense as a way to smooth over that transition. Miles Morales crossing over in the comics only worked because they didn't have him showing up in that story for the first time like "Hey! I'm a different Spider-Man! Do you love me yet?!" Establishing characters and then folding them in makes it less cheap for the characters that they do give that treatment to. If they did that for a character who's less than A list, though, it's a gamble. People would be whining about how no one has ever cared about____ so why are they going through so much effort to preserve that version of the character. This lets them do all of that and get a little crazy with some decisions, put the world they come from more in like with Kirby's art style, and play fun games with the cast, since the side characters are all going to get replaced anyway. Also, come on, man, I love Silver Surfer as much as the next guy, but putting him in the same tier as Batman or Superman is just dumb. This is actually where the Ant Man comparison would fit, and subbing Scott for Hank worked out alright for them
This Fantastic four movie sounds like the Justice League movie.
They could be killing Pedro's Reed in that universe, and maybe we'll see another in the main one. Otherwise, i don't really know how Pedro is gonna fit all the marvel movies with his tight schedule.

I LOVE the route they are going FOR THIS ONE MOVIE. It DOESNT NEED other heroes Josh. This isnt a risk AT ALL. Its THE FIRST MCU FF MOVIE. They need to focus on them solely anyway!
They will be interacting with other heroes literally EVERY MOVIE AFTER. Your stated worries only make sense if the FF4 would NEVER cross over.

I think that the MCU FF film is either partly based off of or had an influence on the FF mini series FANTASTIC FOUR:LIFE STORY which was an alternate take on the FF and was set in real time and had the FF adventures begin in 1961 and had Galactus as the major threat. The mini series, while interesting, was NOT a fun read and was very depressing.

Great video. I think F4 is risky…. I thought what they should do except for Johnny Storm is get most of the cast from the Spy Kids Franchise. For Instance, Antonio Banderas as Reed Richards; Carla Gugino as Sue Storm; Danny Trejo as The Thing; Alexa Vega as Valeria Richards and Junie as Franklin Richards. I think that would have been better since all these actors had chemistry with each other from a different franchise. To me, it is a no brainer to have Antonio as a hero instead of as a villain like him as Zorro. Fun fact: I dressed as Zorro for my 1st Halloween. He is great playing heroes. The female silver surfer does not bother me since Galan is going to win. I just hope in a post credit scene or something to show wherever Doctor Doom is when Galan eats the planet. Great video Josh. Tbh I don’t care if any other heroes cross over. I just want a good movie. Who are they actually gonna interact with? Iron man and cap are gone. They are making a mistake even having this touch the mcu. Just have it be its own thing and reintroduce recast characters like iron man and cap later. Especially if it’s the 60s. It’s before people knew of mutants so the ff still have their public appeal. Then X-men can unfold organically after that.

It's about time they start doing more multiverse centric movies in the multiverse saga. I still believe that maybe we get the council of Reeds, and we will see those rumor castings as Reeds. I think Franklin may just be a little kid or maybe a baby in this movie and not really used muched in this movie. Also, we can get them teaming up with other heroes once they actually get into the MCU proper. Never thought we would get that in this movie once we learned they would be in a different universe or in the 1960s or perhaps even both.

I think it's a good idea having a Fan. 4 from another universe. They lose their universe (incursion) and hypes up the stakes for Secret Wars. Remember there is a Galactus in each Universe. We can have another Silver Surfer!

My wife likes quantumania, I liked it… I didn’t like the ending, thought it was kinda stupid but then again my wife and kids liked it, so yeah family values is what Disney does, a concept for children, that is how Disney started for children.
Haven’t you been a big proponent of things being weird in the MCU? Also, Vanessa Kirby is lower status than Scarlet and every guardian of the galaxy was the whole team was cast very well.
There is a reason Pedro is everywhere. He’s extremely likable and audiences love him. I think with this one you need to trust the process before you can go out and make audacious claims that this movie is already going to suck before you’ve even seen a trailer.
