The real reason we have kids is so we can introduce them to the things we love and then buy things from it and claim it's "for the kid".

I showed my daughter A New Hope and she had no interest...she was also 3 at the time, so that's on me. However...I got her hooked with Jedi. She liked Chewbacca and the Ewoks. Then I showed her Empire and it is now her favorite...she likes the snow and the Yoda scenes.
I took her to see TFA when she was almost 4 and she sat through the whole thing and loved it. She requested a Star Wars birthday party (May the forth be with you) and it was awesome. Did the Jedi training in Disney World...it's great.

In all seriousness, show them the originals, rogue one, if you feel lucky, try 7. When they get older than 10 or so, show them the Clone Wars TV show. (Reason I say that is because the Clone Wars does handle some more mature topics. Slavery, government corruption, terrorism.) Unless you want to, don't show the prequels unless they want to watch them. (I personally don't view the prequels as horribly as some fans but I do admit they're not the best lol) Give Rebels a skip too. Thats just me though. You parent the way you want to! Can't remember when I first showed Star Wars to my son... He must have been 4 or 5 maybe. It has created a special bond between us, something we share and that I treasure. When the movies were rereleased in 1997, he was 8 and we finally got to see them together in a theater. Then we went the whole prequels route together too. In 2013 we went to a special two-nights Saga screening, and that was awesome, seeing these 6 movies, 1-2-3 the first night, 4-5-6 the 2nd, and talking about them. He was 23 at the time. SInce then we have shared Episode 7 and 8, and found new grounds for discussions. He will be 30 when we will go see Episode 9, and I expect any grandchildren I may one day have will also be Star Wars fan. That's the beauty of Star Wars. I am a first generation fan, made my son into a 2nd generation fan, and I hope his children will be the 3rd generation.

This made me actually think of the time I may have a kid and we're watching Empire (because we WILL watch it at some point), and right after the shocking reveal, I turn to my kid (whose brain has probably exploded) and say "Hey, guess what...*I* am your father!"
...yeah, I'd totally be one of "those" dads. 😂

Oh how i wish i cud go back to being a kid and experience these movies for the first time again. I hav a 7yr old daughter that I've been trying to turn onto Star Wars, but she tells me it's boring. Naturally I've written her out of my will. My 7 month old girl is now "my only hope"

This is STAR WARS. An eternal legacy passed down from gen2gen. It is great that your boy began with the classics and wonderful that his mind can wrap around it, enjoy it, and perhaps, thank his father for giving him the great gift. I did this with my children. It was all I could give them.
