- Mari has always enjoyed the challenge of rethinking familiar works - as can be heard in the new interpretations of music by Bach, Jóhannsson and Max Richter on 'Mari', her debut DG album. The ever popular “Moonlight” Sonata, however, holds a particularly special place in her heart.
“When listening to the ‘Moonlight Sonata’,” she explains, “I feel my soul getting detoxified. It’s like an internal cleansing of my emotional and mental system, a dream or a fantasy where you’re invited into a different world for some five minutes. I think it’s impossible to define if it’s dark or light. It gives me a feeling of hope and enlightenment, and of reflection and consciousness.”

Over the years, I traveled in many countries to hear great music (Berlin, Florence, Chicago, New York, Helsinki, Moscow, St.Petersburg, Kiev, ... I am from Canada. When this pandemic is over and I could travel again, I will go anywhere to hear Mari Samuelsen play ! She is exceptional. Please let the subscribers know when events are planned.

@@wendyabbott7357 it's not 'her'. I am a lifelong musician and music teacher and latterly meditation teacher - what you witness is the Divine playing through her. There is no person. There are no separate people once we go beyond the eyes. Musicians live in a perception of the worls which is beyond form the eyes constantly tell us is true. She is not playing; she is being played. On open conduit for the Divine Consciousness to flow. Namaste x

Never would I thought to hear Moonlight Sonata be transcribed into an orchestral setting. The arrangement is well done and I will say that there is a ton of depth having the principal instrument front and center. Very balanced. Any recording that Deutsche Grammophon produces, I know what to expect: virtuosic mastery and perfection.
