- Mari Samuelsen is one of today’s most imaginative and eloquent violinists, known for her inventive approach to programming and presentation. As part of Deutsche Grammophon's 120th anniversary celebrations held at Beijing’s Forbidden City, Samuelsen took the solo lead in Max Richter’s “November”, accompanied by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Long Yu.
Max Richter’s “November” is Samuelsen’s first single on Deutsche Grammophon. Her debut album was recorded with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and conductor Jonathan Stockhammer and will be released in early summer 2019.

Imagine being this good at something..
I Wish i could
Hard work, spending time, discipline and passion
You can pick up the violin easily if you're willing to put the work in. It's very rewarding.
"Practice - 40 hours a day". TwoSet
I am pretty good at farting.
I have waited YEARS to see this piece performed live. Literal chills.
Me too...👏👏👏
Same here
It is a wonderful piece, indeed, I did not know about. It has certainly Vivaldi written all over it. Mesmerizingly well performed.
Brought me to tears and I loved how she commands the music. 😈😃😇
It is perfect!
Thank you, everybody!
❤
Absolutely incredible.
this song feels like a compilation of your life and memories from birth til your last moments.
my sentiments exactly!!
This comment is honestly underrated!
Wow yes..... And everything to come after death 💫
@@tinyrockyplanet8953 I'm so sorry to have offended you my Lord with my poor choice of word. Please accept my deepest apologies 😪
@@tinyrockyplanet8953 Tiny Minded. I find in this world where you can choose to be anything, actively choosing to be a person to make an active choice to put down others is overrated. Tiny, indeed.
I cant understand how the entire orchestra and audience arent bawling their eyes out in tears? It gets me EVERY TIME.
😍
I watched a lot of TV Shows but The Leftovers is unforgettable
Great show indeed
I cry twice in a decade… today it was one of those
After 1 year of practice, today at 2.18 a.m., I finally managed to perfect my performance to match Ms Samuelsen's.
I feel pretty damn proud.
And, boy, does my right arm hurt.
Congratulations on your perseverance !
@@manolo1918 Thank you!
Congrats on your destination! I think it was hard, even if i don't play on violin it seems hard to perform.
Such a emotional master piece composition
@@vladshim1600 Thank you, sincerely! I used to play both piano and violin, and was even something of a child prodigy and the plan was for me to go to the Music Academy, and then Moscow to study further.
But then my mom happened.
I didn't touch the violin for 15 years, that's why it took me so long to get back in form and be able to perform on this level. I just love playing and imagining I am there, on the stage, with Ms Samuelsen and the orchestra and feeling every tone surging through my whole body. That is also why I like playing barefoot.
Thank you again. 💓
I need to see your cover 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐
This whole piece is one big climax, have you noticed? It's relentless. It engages all of your physical senses and your emotions, takes you over completely and then disapears from you, first suddenly, than impression starts slowly leaving your mind and body, like an ebb.
Magical.
Like the show it comes from: The Leftovers
@@jeanlaurioz9777 It wasn't composed for this show; it was just used in it. I hope that doesn't offend you.
@@swannero3078 No not at all😄, I've heard that after my comments, I was surprised. I wanted to incite you to watch the show so I guess it was useless!
@@jeanlaurioz9777 I tried. I guess it just wasn't my cup of tea, as the old saying goes.
Does it matter ,really,?😇🥰👀🙏❤🕳👆
This is the most powerful thing on earth, I swear.
Stop with the hyperbolic remarks, you sound daft.
@@conrad6226Excuse me?
@@Namynechan Are you having difficulties understanding what I said?
@@conrad6226 No, I think you are. Please enjoy this amazing video and stop bothering people
@@Namynechan No problem. Your original comment is still pathetic.
She deserved a standing ovation for this
3 seasons of The Leftovers, watched twice, hours of listening to Max Richter thinking maybe, one day, November would be played live. The cycle is now complete.
Or maybe watch the series again...
This song is from the memoryhouse album, I think it was made before the tv show that you mention, the whole album is awesome probably it will like you maria the poet song.
Anderson Luis de Carvalho yes!!! I know right!!! I’m like finally!!!!!!!! This is priceless!!! Crying and laughing it’s so beautiful and breathtaking!!! I’m going crazy 😜
First heard November in The Leftovers also. When the first notes begin playing in the show, you know something big is about to happen, love it !
Just finished the series for the first time last Friday 😶😶😶❤️❤️❤️😑😑😑. Will definitely watch it for the rest of my life. 🙏🏻❤️Amén
Anderson Luis de Carvalho 🤝
This piece is composed in such way that the solo violoinist barely has the time to play all the notes and stay in sync with the orchestra. With that said, Ms Samuelsen did a masterful, magnificent job. Kudos to everybody, Max Richter especially. "November" births a whirlwind of emotions in me, and when that happens, I LITERALLY start losing my breath. A masterpiece.
Addendum: Ever since I've heard this piece for the first time, I've been utterly enchanted by it, and have obssessively listened to this version and the album version, comparing every note, every crescendo, the solo and the orchestra performance and how well synchronized they are, noticing the differences and obssesing about them, and finally concluding that this rendition is superior to the abum version in every possible way. Since that day, I basically wake up and go to sleep with this gem. And months and months after I've heard this out-wordly beautiful piece, I keep coming back to it. It never fails to fill me with awe and stir every fibre of my being, over and over again. And I have yet to experience it the same way twice. This, this is magnificence of the Universe put into notes.
Beautifully done!
Such a way to express yourself, first time listening to this version and totally agreed. Deeply in love. Stay strong! Greetings from Monterrey, Mexico!
@@glasmor Thank you very, very much. This composition (more precisely, this rendition of it) comforted me and gave me solace and strength in many times of sadness and despair, and today your comment did the same. It really means a lot, so thank you again. Greetings from Zagreb, Croatia ❤
@@marianhannibal5245 Thank you. I sincerely appreciate it.
@@swannero3078 Music can heal the soul, mind and spirit... always!
I watch this performance every day, usually multiple times!
Lol, me again
Sorry dear, I think it’s time you got a life.
There’s a very real dramatic weight to this piece. I can’t describe it; it’s like the climax of an epic tale where our protagonist does not know what to do in the most critical point. It’s confusing
oontur- mench, you just described the Leftovers my friend. It’s on HBO and uses Max Richter’s music throughout including this piece.
Not a soundtrack between Densel Washington and Mark Anthony' s play.
@@adamarens3520 exactly what I thought haha
Absolutely yes!!!!!
I guess if I reacted strictly mentally to music that is what I’d say too, but with this piece I’m too moved to tears to think much lol...😭💜
I was listening to this for the first time today while I was working. Not really paying attention.
Until BAM! out of nowhere, my whole body started getting chills and my eyes began to cry. One of only a handful of times this has ever happened to me in my entire 40 years of life. Amazing!
I need to see this woman live.

I kid you not... This happend to me today as well!!
I know what you mean. I discovered this yesterday and can't stop listening to it....
This is the most beautiful piece of music I've ever listened to.
Today, listening for the first time for me, experienced the same.
Yeah this came up in my spotify and halfway through not paying attention I was like... Why do I feel this way? Truly amazing. Had to come listen
Y me hace salir y viajar. Saludos. Y buen día.
This violinist is the best I have heard, her version of Vilvaldi's four seasons is the best ever. She is incredible and she lives each of her interpretations with accuracy and emotion, i'm transported.
Exactly, she is the best violinist in the world.

She is the best.
Music transcends our differences. Music is what makes us human .this is one of the most sublime works of art i have ever heard.
She makes it looks so easy when it is so hard.
I wanna learn to play a violin… this vids are amazing ✨
@@Passerbyzzzz Hey, it's never too late!! This is an ABRSM grade 8 piece which I'll be starting soon. Violin takes a lot of patience but the results are so worth it 😍😍

The leftovers, fire scene... unforgettable.
Maybe only solo violinist I've watched over and over. This is one of my favorite YT recordings and I'll never forget it.
Nice! Thanks y lot 😊
If chaos and harmony could be described in any way, it would be this. If God had a voice, it would be this bit of piece to us all. Harmony, fate, and destiny all in one melodic symphony. What a performer and gem to us all. God's grace be with all sentient beings in the universe. What a sound that touches the soul. ❤️☮️✨️🔥
My 90 year old grandmother passed away December 7th 2021, the last remaining of my grandparents, and then a day later I heard this melody on RUclips, put with a video illustrating the day in the life of a person from their birth to death... every climatic high point building upon the one before it, illustrated by typical life experiences. Haunting melody.
I can't imagine the thousands of hours it takes to master an art to this extent. It's prodigious.
We are privileged to be able to enjoy this from any corner of the globe. Magnificent.
Heard this piece for the first time the other day and it has blown me away. It us so beautiful it reduced me to a weeping, grateful mess
This is what excellence, power, victory and a life time of suffering and ultimate redemption sounds like. I feel like hugging all life, in tears of joy and liberation. Sublime. Music truly speaks to the soul.

I was listening to this for the first time today as I was working. Stopped me right on my tracks as my whole body started getting chills and my eyes began to cry. Amazing!
What Giorgio said ☝🏻 😢😃
Ppl in the comments pointing out a couple of mistakes amidst what must be over three thousand notes for this solo part... Ridiculous. Who cares!!!! Live music isn't supposed to be perfect. I bet it was breathtaking to be there.
Enzo Veiga Bravo Enzo!
Indeed Enzo breathtaking here, I know to have been there live would have been most pleasing, I didn't hear any mistakes, I'm not a musician just a consumer of great music
Who cares. That couple of mistakes makes the thousand other notes played even truer.
I wonder if those haters could do better. Truly one of my favorite pieces from MR.
No one is being negative, quit trying to create drama by being drama.
Mari Samuelsen is perhaps the most outstanding violinist today ... what a great temperament and passion! Thank you for the beautiful Richter music! ❤️🎼❤️🙏
she is best in the world, her skills are out of this world o.o
This piece has no ending. It's meant to be endless. It's eternal progression of the creation ,multiplication and harmony, which leads us to ecstasy!!! That's what I hear.
Mari! Adorable perfection!
End of your life?!
Tried playing this earlier today and found the finger patterns to be absolutely insane, especially in the high parts (stretching and shifting everywhere). With thousands of notes in the space of six and a half minutes, that was an astonishing performance and is technically very challenging, not to mention incredibly exposed. Just brilliant.
And the orchestra is no less.
What an extraordinary solist, conductor and of course Richter, who gave us this original, powerful and magnificent opus.
I have no words. I've never listened to anything like this before.
Disziplin. Demut. Handwerk. Unfassbares Können. Ein Meisterwerk!❤
Everytime i'm hearing a Max Richter's piece of work my spine goes chill, its quite something.
I'm a brazillian, how I liked, appreciate your music.
This is pure art, the forbidden city with his mystery and architecture, the orchestra, the violinist, and the song, everything evokes to Art, such a emotional melody.
Der Max Richtwr uns Mei Samuelsen thank you very mich! You are both geatdul!!! Special in die difficult time today. Ist very impotant for us. I am meaning pepple who undestand your music and Wonderful Mari. A lot of thanks
This is the most amazing thing I've ever heard. I was transfixed.
I came across this today on RUclips played it over and over a master piece. Looking in from Ireland 🇮🇪
She plays it so remarkable that I literally cried.
I am a violinist and I can’t imagine my fingers and arms playing like that for so long. I wish I could have been there.
Max Richter is a contemporary musical genius. ❤
This is just magnificent, it's the first time a song has made me cry.
I've watched this some 30 or 40 times already and can't stop. It's just mesmerizing...speechless. No words can describe this.
For all those hearts that block the breaches of ineptitude, despair and violence. All those who carry the world, this tiny damn real blue pearl, every day without medals, titles and glory. To all our unknown optimists, repairers, inventors and artists. Your so beautiful waves are spreading to the end of the universe.

I'm crying, it's that good. Amazing, wow to hear this even digitally is thrilling and emotional.
I have never seen a more passionate performer....
it’s feel something different when you listen to this performance many times '
Mistakes? Gorgeous!! The hair stood up on my arms and that only ever happens when I hear something so special, Bravo!
Looks like the rest of the orchestra is trying to catch up to her but she’s too fast. Her violin is always the first sound you hear and then she joins them at the end. Amazing performance. This should have been a roaring standing ovation
She is so perfect with her violin! One can only achieve this level if they are one with the violin and control it with confidence just like controlling your limbs. She is a goddess!
Every aspect of this performance stirs my emotions, especially witnessing each of them at their peak. It feels like they're transcending, and it's beautiful to behold!
THIS! Anytime I need a good cry! Appreciate life!
This is such a hard piece for the main violinist. I've always wanted to watch this live. It wasn't perfect; but who tf cares! Wish they had played this when I was in Beijing! What an experience!
Only just discovered Mari Samuelsen yesterday and I normally don’t watch music videos, I just put my headphones on and close my eyes. I happened to take a peek and immediately was enthralled. It’s hard to tell where the boundary of violinist and violin start. There isn’t one with her in this video, she is the music and the music is her. They are one, you can almost see the strands of each note fly about and around her and the stage. Absolutely mesmerizing to not only hear but to watch. Beautiful is too weak of a word. I would love to see her live. Wow
Great comment mate, I enjoy this as much as you

She consists of power!!! And some people in the orchestra has it as their faces reflect it while playing.. this music releases the power.
How many pages of notes in memories.. God gifted.. Mari Samuelson..
Norwegian girl's I say 💕
there is not that many notes in a Max Richter song
Not that many because it's an endless repetition.

2:42 this piece just gains soo much power and emotion. I love the unitary manner way in which the orchestra bursts out into one big reveal.
I agree. It’s like instantly all the power and emotion is let loose in one giant wave
