I'm the biggest Zidane fan out there, but it was a big let down and blemish (I wouldn't call it a disgrace either, but I don't blame people who do). You really think that in all of his career, he didn't hear all sorts of things about his family, sister, wife, etc? He's heard it all long before he ever got to that final, and Materazzi still got to him (because he insulted his family at a time when his mother wasn't doing well health-wise). There's no way a player like Materazzi should have been able to get to a player of Zidane's stature and get him out of a final of a world cup by provoking him, but Zidane has always had an issue with certain provocations. He's at least redeemed his image as one of the greatest coaches in Madrid's history.
Kronick Introvert If I also could become the coach of Real Madrid by getting disgraced. Hahahaha. Most of these morons don't know what the fuck they're talking about. Everyone around me agreed that Materazzi was a piece of shit, and totally did deserve that headbutt.
It was all about Zidane, not just Italy - France but the way he want to end his career was a slap in the face, 2006 should have been his significant tournament, both Cannavaro and Zidane made world cup 2006
not a slave to money , so he helped qatar get the world cup because he believs qatar was a good choice , with stadiums not even built yet , no human rights and no football in the country
No, I would probably say scoring the equalizer then lifting the trophy and taking his shiny winners medal home was the high point, then winning the Treble 4 years later with Inter. The headbutt was a little bonus on the side XD

Materazzi is considered one of the most representative players of FC Inter by their supporters. He won the WC 2006 with Italy (scoring in the final match), multiple Serie A titles in the next years and the CL 2009-10. As much as I don't like Materazzi (and Inter), he is not an unknown and I don't think there is any connection between this episode and the manager career of Zidane (how could it be? lol). I wish the volume was "normalised". I have to turn it up for the French. I have to turn it down for the Italian. There's a function in every audio editor and video editor called "normalise". This makes the volume congruent throughout.
Zidane🏆 didn't need to forget Materazzi's insult just wait until the end of the match before killing the bast**d. As they say in Italy, revenge is a dish best served cold.
Zizou rules. Materazzi is a vile and low piece of a person that deserved what he got. In real ife, you should always be accountable for your actions. No matter the situation.
It's not like France had a great run until WC 2014. They got kicked out of Euro 2008 by Italy, they qualified to WC 2010 cheating against Ireland and the performed miserably in both WC 2010 and Euro 2012 (where Italy was runner-up).
The media always try to drive an agenda against Zizou for that headbutt claiming that it tarnished his legacy...absolute bollocks! Zidane's legacy was is and is still intact. Materazzi was a weasel and deserved to be headbutt and much more...💯
Aaand Materazzi can never be an unknown now,You can't talk about the legend Zidane without mentioning the headbutt, you mention the headbutt then you are gonna have to mention the headbuttee and eventual World Cup Winner that year... Legend or not World Cup medals: Zidane 1, Materazzi 1.
Zidane's greatness doesn't stop as a legend on the pitch. Remember that he already won back to back ucl as madrid's manager, and currently on route to be the first manager ever to win three in a row. Although he didn't lift the world cup that year, this man is still destined for many other greatness. Meanwhile, materazzi who...? The way i see it, materazzi is the one who ended his career poorly. people will remember him forever as a racist who manages to provoked one of the most humble footballer of his time.

I don't necessarily approve his reaction but we can't judge. Its not something unheard of, we see worse in everyday life, we hear about people being shot over silly ego arguments, it happens everywhere in the world all the time. He lost control in one moment, he's just a human being after all.
A lot of childish, silly comments. 1) Zidane was, is and will be a football legend, a pleasure for eyes. 2) that night he lost his nerves, and did something can't be justified or minimized, no matter whatever Materazzi said. I repeat: no matter what Materazzi or every other player could have said. There is a line between words and actions, a line no one should cross, no matter if you are a god of football. Even gods fall. (ps. he did something very similar when he was playing for Juve, so he wasn't new to such a thing). 3) imagine you are a coach of a team of children, what would you teach them? Do like zizou, punch in the face or headbutt your opponent if he says something unconfortable to you? No way. 4) for the reasons above, Zidane deserved red card and shame for his action. 5) Italy deserved 2006 WC. Who say it was luck simply doesn't understand football or was watching something else on tv (we were lucky only in the match vs Australia). France also did everything well (expecially in the match against Brazil) and came so close to win. C'est la vie. 6) Even if I'm italian and stand for Croatia, I think France will win, and it will be well deserved (great team).
I never felt Zidane's Red card caused the loss. Buffon played fantastic in goal for Italy. It came to PK's, and they lost in PK's. Trezeguet hit the post. Game over --
I don't care what he said, you let your entire team down with that selfish act. He could have won it all for his country if he just sucked it up and became the bigger person and walked away. Instead he acted like a child, lost the world cup for his country, his team, his fans, and ended his career with disgrace. Such a shame for such a great player. if only he would have actually thought before he acted.
Materazzi may have the medal, but he will never be remembered as a true great like Zidane. Materazzi, Chiellini, Pepe, Ramos, etc the players who will do ANYTHING to win are not the giants of football who make us love this game, they are the people who do everything to stop these guys playing, whether by foul means or fair. Mostly foul.
because French military in the colonies were all mercenaries. and the mercenary has never been a man of honor. instead of facing the soldier in hand-to-hand combat. they attack women and their kids. do not compare the real soldier of honor and a vulgar mercenary ...
Zidane's reaction was animal, but in fact, his headbutt was the most human thing the world have watched on a football pitch. Forget their players career, just look at what kind of man have become Zidane and Materazzi : Zidane has built a great family, created dozens of charities, became Real Madrid manager and won 3 Champions League.... Materazzi only achievement was to monetize his provocation through goodies, books and silly tv ads. 2 men, 2 different ethics
Vianditya Pujiani I agree ZZ is on total different level (legend), but a lot of football player can only dream of being a nobody like Materazzi, with his trophies.
At the end of the video, the guy says it ruined Zidane's career, really? I don't know if French abused him for that headbutt, but for sure I know he is their most beloved till today and to the rest of the world. We all know where Zidane is today. Materazzi, I don't even remember the guy's name until I saw this video, hope his Pizzeria is doing well in Venice.
I *never* understood why the legend (knowing he would also get sent off and leave France floundering) would head butt the guys chest. Aim for the nose and do it properly!
Italian players other than Materazzi and Balotelli have been class acts who never played dirty and won/lost tournaments fairly. Your comment has no substance.

He is just a retired football player and coach, football is nice but come one, they don't save lives, what about doctors, people working in the health care, firemen, etc... ? I like sports too but come one, be serious kid...
He couldn't keep with the pressure, he felt France would lose and snapped. End of story. P.S. Zidane once said that during a match he felt in advance when and how he would score, and that actually happened.
As so many footballers said after the match if l reacted every time someone said something about my family I would never had played a minute please have thick skin and get on with it. Im sure someone like gattuso or roy keane were told many things but just got on with it and played cheers zidane. as for materazzi will always be loved by the tifosi
Take a look at both these players today. Zidane is a legend, his legacy cannot be argued. Materazzi is just a noname whose only feat is having Zidane sent off by resorting to petty words. Simple.
12 years later two first round exists and no world cup in 2018 and France are world champion and Zidane won 3 champions league in a row ans materazzi is a nobody.
Zidane has head butted people in his career. This was a provoked incident by the Italians as a systemic plan to destroy the French rythm and neutralize Zidane/Henry and their spectacular teamwork. Yes, I do feel he could have controlled himself, but in the heat of the moment, many great people do the wrong things. This is also called, if you can't compete with someone, bring their game down.
Zidane didn't want Domenech to win the World Cup. Just a theory, you don't have to agree. He realized *omg we are about to win, no way I'm going to ruin it* 😂
Zidane is a legend of the game no disputes, but no one can or should attempt to take Materazzi's World cup medal from him. Whole of Africa hates Suarez for that handball, but it was Gyan that missed the penalty... Black football players endure racist comments from fans and players alike (Not making it about race or geography, just examples) but they are paid millions to keep their heads and not plant them into their opponents chest #ZidaneLostTheWorldCupForFranceWithHisHead. This link should help explain how: support.google.com/youtube/answer/100078?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en
Zidane,Algerian blood!!
He played as a true legend and he ended career as a true man!
Zidane 🥇🏆
I wish the volume was "normalised". I have to turn it up for the French. I have to turn it down for the Italian. There's a function in every audio editor and video editor called "normalise". This makes the volume congruent throughout.
Zidane🏆 didn't need to forget Materazzi's insult just wait until the end of the match before killing the bast**d. As they say in Italy, revenge is a dish best served cold.
Zizou rules.
Materazzi is a vile and low piece of a person that deserved what he got. In real ife, you should always be accountable for your actions. No matter the situation.
i have a sister and i feel it
i was so upset but still Zidane is my hero
nafis fuad he would have missed his penalty so italy 5 france 3 that's ok i guess
wonder why Italy didn't qualify this time
france is going to win this
world cup watch i will remind all of you
Nah it’s between Germany and Spain but France still has the caliber of making it to the semifinals
One month later: France doesn't get all nine points from an "easy group".
+ArcangeloSports NOS come again?
+ArcangeloSports NOS what's that again?
Oh please, France aint winning anything this year, forget about the World Cup
The first VAR intervention in a match, unofficially of course😮
After watching that final , my mother didn't watch a football game for 8 years.Quite a powerful moment.
are you french?
allen.akuma66 No
After that the italian football was in the dark ages up to today..well deserved.
It's not like France had a great run until WC 2014. They got kicked out of Euro 2008 by Italy, they qualified to WC 2010 cheating against Ireland and the performed miserably in both WC 2010 and Euro 2012 (where Italy was runner-up).
Family is everything. Especially mother and sister.
Materazzi offended Zidanes sister in an awful ,awful way. That was the last straw for Z.
Legend or not
World Cup medals:
Zidane 1,
Materazzi 1.
Racist for what?
@@busta6740 Still waiting for an answer ..

@@busta6740 Ah ecco
I don't necessarily approve his reaction but we can't judge. Its not something unheard of, we see worse in everyday life, we hear about people being shot over silly ego arguments, it happens everywhere in the world all the time. He lost control in one moment, he's just a human being after all.
Yeah but insulting, whether you like it or not, is part of the game
At last some fuckin sense, not easy to find in the comment section among all the racism and the bad sportsmanship.
Good day to you sir
oh, thank you. It's not so difficult to use reason instead anger or whatever else, but a lot of people haven't learn it yet.
Zidane 🇫🇷💥 🏆
I never felt Zidane's Red card caused the loss. Buffon played fantastic in goal for Italy. It came to PK's, and they lost in PK's. Trezeguet hit the post. Game over --
Just awesome just true
Buffon the best goalkeeper ever in the football history
Sadly, when people remember Zidane the thing that comes to mind will always be Zinedine Zidane's Headbutt and not his footballer skills.
NYC Apple Pie zizou is a legend and no one can dénie that
because French military in the colonies were all mercenaries. and the mercenary has never been a man of honor. instead of facing the soldier in hand-to-hand combat. they attack women and their kids. do not compare the real soldier of honor and a vulgar mercenary ...
You're really saying the most human reaction to an insult is a headbutt?
It was because of this incident that matarazzi became popular, he absolutely no body, no sportsmanship and not good at football.
Respect for zidane
A Nobody who won multiple Serie A, the World Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
Alfredo di Nuzzo I’m pretty sure he played by himself, 1 vs 11 players on the field every match.
Vianditya Pujiani I agree ZZ is on total different level (legend), but a lot of football player can only dream of being a nobody like Materazzi, with his trophies.
Materazzi won the 2010 Champions League the way Kaka won the 2002 World Cup. Glued to the bench.
You probably don't know football very well.
There's a 15 minute video about this? Good grief.

Media love to spread hate and problems ... more views more attention more ads more money
It’s business at the end
Use Ad-Block = Zero money for them :D
Always a hero!
And you realise Italy won't ever qualify for WC after 2014 lol.
It's coming Rome
She won the European cup in 2021 lol!
Zidane the king very inspiring the humble man
What ever he did he will remain a legend vive zizou
Zidane sums it up. He's a man before anything else. Something Materazzi would not understand.
Does anyone know the the names of the songs in this video? And this will be a World Cup classic for ever.
I *never* understood why the legend (knowing he would also get sent off and leave France floundering) would head butt the guys chest.
Aim for the nose and do it properly!
What is the song right at the beginning, with the female singer? It also plays at the end! Anybody knows?
Italy is the worst champion of the world, ugly game, cheat, mafia etc.
Italian players other than Materazzi and Balotelli have been class acts who never played dirty and won/lost tournaments fairly. Your comment has no substance.
Love these butthurt comments. Haters
Materazzi is an icon
if only all players were like him then maybe i would watch football
Could argue the headbut have him more notoriety than if he won it
Yeah. Being caught evens it out quite a bit.
A beast is a beast. Doesn't matter how costly his fur is.
2 champions leagues later, here we are.
Materazzi was locking Zidane up, Zidane started trash talking, Materazzi returned the favor and then Zidane lost his head into Materazzi’s chest.
Bruhh this shit iconic😂😂 imagine if this sit were to happen now a days with social media and shit😂😂 definitely the highlight of the World Cup with ppl making memes out of it and making it go viral. “Would u head butt ur bestfriend for 5,000,000 milli.......” and just show the iconic picture😂😂
yes...he is God for me....🙏🙏
the most perfect player I have seen live😇😇
He is just a retired football player and coach, football is nice but come one, they don't save lives, what about doctors, people working in the health care, firemen, etc... ? I like sports too but come one, be serious kid...
Zizou: "I'm a man before anything else"
He couldn't keep with the pressure, he felt France would lose and snapped. End of story. P.S. Zidane once said that during a match he felt in advance when and how he would score, and that actually happened.
After this incident verbal abuse on the pitch should ave been considered a fault and a penalty mandatory.
As so many footballers said after the match if l reacted every time someone said something about my family I would never had played a minute please have thick skin and get on with it. Im sure someone like gattuso or roy keane were told many things but just got on with it and played cheers zidane. as for materazzi will always be loved by the tifosi
Mattiah Mook well said.
Take a look at both these players today. Zidane is a legend, his legacy cannot be argued. Materazzi is just a noname whose only feat is having Zidane sent off by resorting to petty words. Simple.
Sébastien Xing Ahahhaha Materazzi lead Italy to a world cup title scoring twice in the final! That's an amazing performance.
What software makes these animations?
I remember watching this final in a bar in Greece
Can anyone tell me the name of the song playing in the very beginning? It's so beautiful
If I was in Zidane's place then I would have done the same thing that was a normal reaction
No
I came into this video curious about the headbutt incident, and came out wondering who this cute Italian fan is and if he's single.
4:59 what is that songs name in the background
He realized *omg we are about to win, no way I'm going to ruin it* 😂
9 luglio 2006, coppa in faccia
one thing missing: 'the story behind the headbutt'.
How can you use a replay when replay is not allowed.
If the referee does not see it... It never happens.
Ok Mafia
Zidane is a legend of the game no disputes, but no one can or should attempt to take Materazzi's World cup medal from him. Whole of Africa hates Suarez for that handball, but it was Gyan that missed the penalty... Black football players endure racist comments from fans and players alike (Not making it about race or geography, just examples) but they are paid millions to keep their heads and not plant them into their opponents chest
#ZidaneLostTheWorldCupForFranceWithHisHead.
