Kunekune Piglets Are On Their Own!

- Well it is time for the Kunekune piglets to be on their own. We usually wean the piglets around 7-8 weeks. We like to observe the piglets on their own to make sure they thriving before they go to new farms or different pens.
Today we moved three Kunekune sows into a new pen and we will keep an eye on them to make sure they dry up ok. We will continue to give them more feed to help them recover from nursing piglets and regain a healthy figure.

Mama willow was first saying no mo lol her piggies are so fat luv em. They all are fun to observe. U could sell tickets to their show lol. When I lived in France, my military dad use to take us to watch piglets run up and down on this muddy hill where the farm was in a forest. It rained alot.

haha I laugh a bit anytime I see people not used to cold temps. To be fare I would probably melt in your summers. Love how Kunekune's seem to be very easy to handle vs any other pig I've seen.

How long do you keep the mama's separated? What age do you castrate the males?
Would an Aussie or other herding dog help getting them to where they need to go
Do you feed regular swine feed or a kunekune specific type? I noticed a kunekune specific feed at my feed store last time I was there.
We just use regular pig feed 16% protein
What age do you start giving the piglets regular food and are they partially weaned or fully weaned by that time?
Piglets start eating what momma drops around two weeks then we start putting feed out for them. They are still nursing till around 8 weeks then we take mommas out
