If not for getting exclusivity, why did Microsoft bought Bethesda and Zenimax? Just to shut down most of it's studios?
Xbox might have had a good showcase, but if we want to talk about slimy practices... Closing down 3 great studios should count.
Now Phil wants to bring more games to more platforms because putting them exclusively on Xbox and PC destroyed their sales.
It's not like Microsoft and Xbox didn't initially tried to make all of Zenimax studios exclusive. Rather it's because they tried and failed to be successful.
CEO Phil - Made largest acquisition in history. Brings games to more players.
CEO Sony - Reduces player base of games. Cries a lot.
Which is sad because developers want as many people as possible to play their gamers. Exclusivity doesn't benefit players only the console manufacturers but so many stupid finds keep on wanting exclusives...

It will break it open, BUT they will take ALL the risk.. I don't believe consoles need EVERY GAME CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE TO THEIR PLATFORM, or true ALL games like nintendo... or sony even... or MS... I think these BIG 3 now just need 10+ OR 20+ YEARLY or bi annually exclusive console games to MAKE UP the reason to OWN that console vs the other consoles,, for their CONSOLE exclusives to put Infront of the BIG SCREEN of the house, or BEDroom of a house, unlike PC's not really for bedroom TVs or especially not for LIVING ROOM TV to put a huge pc down there with WINDOWS OS to use haha, it is obviously possible and I used to do it... but lets be real, with the power of Xboxs now and other systems, so close to PC, nobody wants to hassle all that shit just to put that bigger bigger brick with heat into the living room TV... they STILL want a console WITH HUGE POWER (XSX/PS5) OR ADVANTAGES (SWITCH/SWITCH2) EASY TO USE infront of a TV or wherever EASIER to Carry.
Okay, so easier to use, easier to carry or easier to put infront of TV and go go go,, Xbox ui/QUICK resume.. console UI.. and OPTIMZIED SETTINGS FOR GAME, CONDENSED better

Bro I remember when Sony had the rights to COD and they would literally lock gamemodes behind a timed exclusivity. Even if the gamemodes were shit, the fact that I paid full price on a game that didn’t have all the content I paid for because I’m not on PS is insane. And the most ridiculous thing they did was lock the gamemodes until THE NEXT GAME CAME OUT. Which boggles my mind. Not only that- PS players got bonus xp when they played with their friends. Last but not least they locked free skins behind exclusivity as well lmao. It’s so ironic how it all came full circle.

Development is too expensive now to limit your customer pool. Even if Sony offers to supplement cost, the millions they pay you wont make up for the tens or hundreds of millions in missed sales. As Square finally realized.
