  • Researcher and inventor Dr. Louis Rosenberg discusses why Mixed Reality (MR) is the future of mainstream computing and gives a clear timeline for how that transition will occur. In this Keynote (Dec 2023) he reviews the evolution of Mixed Reality starting from early pre-cursor technologies called Head-up Displays in 1940's and 1950's, evolving into the first functional Mixed Reality system at Air Force Research Laboratory in 1992 (the Virtual Fixtures Platform), to the first true MR product in 2012 (Microsoft HoloLens) to the first viable consumer products in the 2020s (Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3, HTC Vive XR Elite and others). He also discusses current uses in medicine from companies like Mediview. And finally, Rosenberg discusses the risks of Mixed Reality, especially when combined with real-time AI systems, and describes the urgent need for consumer protections.
This Keynote was hosted by the Friends of the Metaverse at the Season of Innovation conference 2023.
