Michael, our paths are very similar. I'm a retired ART teacher. I worked with At Risk students in a Juvenile Hall in the 1970's. In the 1980's at a Children's Shelter, and then at a Community School for those on Probation and Parole. Gang members, violent offender's and abused Children. In my own education I struggled to learn. School was too slow for me. My mind was all over the place, seldom on task. I always excelled at Art, my saving grace. Many of my Students were way behind in most subjects. Finding creative solutions to problems was their saving grace thru Art.

Creating something new requires imagination and knowledge, fear & being judged are the biggest blockers of creativity, as a teacher we have a collective responsibility to guide our students to find their authentic self (creativity) and part of that process is teaching them, how to avoid all the external noises around them and embrace their artwork. - Love your passion and truly you are an inspiration

I commend your efforts. I am an x art teacher recently learning I am autistic. So I relate. Grades were always my biggest issue as teaching self evaluation and appreciation for growing from one's experiences should be enough. It seems you have found a small way to use the system to grow students. It gives me hope.

In Chines high school, practicing fine art would be treated as freaks. That's why I study art outside this country.

+Maxwell Lin In germany the same... People tell me you can't afford a apartment with creativity but with "hard work" or some s*it I dont want to do!
Sometimes I wish people could look into my mind and see what is truly important to me.
