The locals were getting it where it needed to be. I think paper tents were the only supplies FEMA handed out. People aren’t lying when they say fema was hampering rescue efforts. Fema was threatening to arrest volunteers who were handing out waters , food and supplies. Local sheriffs band to get her and told fema they would arrest them if they interfered any more. Red Cross closed the 3 shelters they had in WNC. out of the blue fema told the people using the shelter they had 24 hours to find something else. Child services was right there telling the parents if they didn’t secure shelter and a tent wouldn’t cut it they were taking their kids. The government and news reporters were lying about the lithium. Yes Kamala’s husband is heavily invested, dod has contract for 90 million with albermarle signed 2 years ago , no one was going to sell to the mining company , yes tve mine is going to go from kings mountain through chimney rock. The plan on pulling 250 million. Worth of lithium a year you need a massive mine for that

Yep that’s exactly what I’ve heard from people in these areas bringing in truck loads of supplies to keep them going day to day and even helping clearing roads etc yet these people come in and say all of what we’ve heard is just disinformation!!
Yes, I live in Georgia….i was denied even after I proved home ownership and sent in a copy of my drivers license! I am not waiting on FEMA…. Thanks that this happened before Election Day! Everyone at the top of FEMA should LOSE their job! They are giving people nothing!

This reporter did exactly what FEMA wanted her to do. FEMA was nowhere to be found the first week of this disaster. She needs to talk to the volunteers that were first scene.

Im in WNC, and the biggest issue was the lack of first response. Citizens not understanding that FEMA is not a first responder and saying for a week that there was no FEMA seen on the ground are not lying. Just misguided, justifiable anger. It took a week for most to see any response other than volunteer groups. We can have our US military any where in the world to be first response to help with disasters within 48 hours. Where was that kind of response for WNC. Btw, now anything that we share that we observed, it's all called "misinformation."

Here here, our fire and rescue did nothing except deny water for use and no community interaction. In fact they spent their time washing trucks and parking lot while no water for those in peril. Had a mudslide taking my home and trees smashing the front, looked like Moses trying to flag down some help! My daughter lived in Asheville. I went to go get her the Monday after the storm and brought her to South Carolina. Her and everyone she knows has been denied for FEMA, Disaster Unemployment, and disaster food stamps.

They don't give you a reason, you're just denied. That's it. But I will say, it pisses me off that FEMA gave up millions to foreign invaders and now cannot help hurricane victims. @@Handlethis342 I've found that FEMA will issue a determination letter outlining why a claim is denied. The usual reason is lack of documentation, like proof of residency, ownership, insurance, etc. It's hard for some of these people to meet the standard criteria if their homes are washed away. They are given time to resubmit, but it can be challenging.
I have an elderly aunt inside the disaster zone. According to her FEMA officials down there have been awful. Spoke with her again today & according to her, yesterday she personally witnessed FEMA officials confiscating aid off a truck brought in by a private charity. She was naturally upset & said so to the FEMA officials. They claimed to her that they are in charge of distributing the aid. She then spoke with the driver while they were offloading the pallets. According to the driver (who is part of that private charity organization) FEMA is not distributing the aid. Instead they are shipping (at least a portion) the aid up into NY. How does he know? He claimed to my aunt that after their aid was confiscated the 1st time many weeks ago they decided to start hiding a few of those cheap GPS trackers amongst the goods. He opened an app & showed my aunt a digital map with location markers that were displaying at their location & locations inside NY. Apparently he & his team are continuing to document this activity & at some point intend to bring it forward. I believe my aunt so if this driver is being honest heads need to roll & criminal charges brought inside FEMA. This shouldn't be a political issue when we are talking about lives, safety & govt corruption because this affects us all.
What has been great to see is these US communities coming together to help each other, that really is heartening. The truth of the FEMA response and the allocation of federal resources will become apparent in the coming months. The effects of Hurricane Helene on the Southern States is monumental and the federal response required is equally monumental, now let's see the scale of that response, no disinformation required.

Living here in WNC I have seen so many of those comments spreading lies about FEMA taking people's property if you apply for aid, etc. Where those people are located doing this who knows but I know one guy whose Dad is a big trumper and refuses to apply for aid because he believes all those filthy lies. Just because citizens that have lost everything criticize a government agency doesnt mean its disinformation. If theres one thing our government is famous for is failing its citizens in time of need. FEMA evidently thinks the American public forgot about Katrina and Maui. The federal governments first and most important responsibility is SERVING its citizens no matter of political identity, race, religious beliefs or economic situation....their failure rate is public knowledge. Thank you for the story on the devastation. Sure some wild stories, some not true but I am originally from that area. I have heard of more people being turned down for the initial assistance than approved. Why didn't your story focus on the massive amount of of aid, donations and volunteers rolling in from all over the country and from private sources and Non profits like Samaritan's Purse, the United Cajun Navy and other groups. The state of Florida sent State Guard search and rescue teams three days after the same storm hit them. FEMA may help rebuild but they are not, do not and can not respond to immediate needs. BTW FEMA supposedly had people predeployed, if so why did it take them a week to show up? Why didn't your story cover any of that? C'mon man
and asking people to call who have no electric,no phones, some stuck holding on to trees to not get swept away,and a couple of help centers miles away from people isolated on mountains full of debris, flooded,with roads washed away. Fema could have easily gotten the property tax records, check off who showed up and quickly gone looking for the people not heard of, like the family of 11 who all died. The process id daunting! They have to apply, and if approved, they get a check or direct deposit (but they just lost everything and don't have their bank acct number). If they need further assistance beyond the initial $750, they have to apply AGAIN!

Thank you so much for going to Green Mountain. Communities up and down the North Toe and Cane Rivers were hit especially hard with historic high water and landslides. I live in Erwin, Tennessee, 20 or so miles downriver from the confluence of the North Toe and the Cane (they form the Nolichucky River). Erwin is at the mouth of the Nolichucky Gorge and the first place the Nolichucky could spread out. Local Emergency Management reported that they recovered over 99 cars in the floodplain, most of which probably traveled downstream from communities on the North Toe and Cane.

You might feel like they showed up late in YOUR neck of the woods. And thats because of the topography and terrain making access so difficult.

They haven’t gotten enough help yet and aren’t considering the magnitude of the damage (no, your house isn’t going to be started to be rebuilt until the road the material has to come in on is rebuilt). It's kind of confusing here on the ground in Western North Carolina. People I'm working with some have been turned down for the 750 that I thought for sure would qualify. Others that I'm pretty sure don't qualify got the 750. People were really upset when FEMA came and was advertising to go online and sign up for FEMA assistance. We didn't have internet or phones. It was at least 8 days before anything can start. Most people thought FEMA would be doing the rescues. That did not happen. Most people don't know enough about FEMA to understand the process. I believe that has caused most of the anger.
I have friends and family who would say this reporter didn't do true journalism! One person I met who volunteered at the Hickory airport, was told by FEMA workers to remove their shirts and name tags that had the organizations they represented and were forced to wear FEMA name tags! It was reported by WNC news station that the incident was FEMA was on a man's property, the man didn't know who they were and assumed they might be trying to steal from him, so he confronted them with a gun. It was resolved quickly and peacefully.

Fellow citizens and volunteers have done the heavy lifting in this disaster. FEMA absolutely has stopped truck loads of donated goods from reaching those in need. I've seen it first hand. The second instance the Truck driver got back in his truck and drove past them after they told him to stop. They didn't have the ability to physically stop him and they were unsuccessful. There are other reports of the same thing happening elsewhere numerous times. One of them at an airport f rom a woman volunteering to help coordinate private flights of supplies coming into her area. she was threatened with arrest if she didn't stop and let FEMA take the materials instead of them being disbursed by other volunteers.
Who was that reporter? I wasn't able to watch because of 25 days without electricity. She spent more time talking to FEMA, showing a clip from Good Morning America then she did actually talking to the people who are living in and during this catastrophic event. This was not reporting this was making FEMA look good. Let's ask for another reporter, one who will come down and talk to the people and not worry about the bumpy road she has to drive on.
Thanks to all the local people that helped. I have family there on Double Island rd. They got power back. Bur there so much destruction. People need help to rebuild their homes. I was there in August. It breaks my heart to see the damage. My mother buried there. Please help rebuild Green Mountain.

Probably because most of them seem confused about what it is that FEMA does? Just a guess. They did sit down with the local county emergency coordinator, who also said the conspiracy rumors were false. He's a local - is he lying too? Ask yourself why if FEMA is abusing citizens, you haven't seen it on video on social media. Given that virtually everyone in this country is walking around with a video recording device in their hand, don't you think someone would video it? Yet no one has, even though it would go megaviral. Instead, what we have is a bunch of RUclipsrs spreading conspiracies to get clicks. Oddly, even when the titles of their videos suggest they witnessed FEMA abusing storm victims, all that's in the video is the content creator sharing conspiracy talk with others. Also - FEMA workers weren't the only ones interviewed. This is from 60 Minutes Overtime. In the actual 60 Minutes episode, they talked to victims and fire departments and civilian volunteers.
She talked to a resident, she’s right there at the beginning. Then she talked with the county’s emergency coordinator. This is a story about FEMA’s response, not about the fire department.

The problem is that if we had waited on FEMA, we would all be dead. Even if the $750 is supposedly just a beginning, I know of no one who has even received that. All anyone here in WNC has seen is approval for a hotel stay, nothing anywhere near us, and all of them full. What good was that? And where is even the $750 for immediate help?

I have been going to NC Bakersville area every weekend the storm and did notice anybody but citizens helping and the second weekend FEMA was bringing generators but supply plugs not available. Then 3rd weekend half was taken to a warehouse to store because it was not needed when it clearly was! All that to say this. I go because Jesus asked me to go and I will not be deceived! Flood insurance was not even offered on these people's sites some people tried to get flood insurance and were told it wasn't available for their area. It's a thousand year flood. That was also made worse by dams that were at capacity before the storm.

Local sheriffs band to get her and told fema they would arrest them if they interfered any more. Red Cross closed the 3 shelters they had in WNC. out of the blue fema told the people using the shelter they had 24 hours to find something else. Child services was right there telling the parents if they didn’t secure shelter and a tent wouldn’t cut it they were taking their kids. The government and news reporters were lying about the lithium. Yes Kamala’s husband is heavily invested, dod has contract for 90 million with albermarle signed 2 years ago , no one was going to sell to the mining company , yes tve mine is going to go from kings mountain through chimney rock. Im in WNC, and the biggest issue was the lack of first response. Citizens not understanding that FEMA is not a first responder and saying for a week that there was no FEMA seen on the ground are not lying. Just misguided, justifiable anger. It took a week for most to see any response other than volunteer groups. We can have our US military any where in the world to be first response to help with disasters within 48 hours. Where was that kind of response for WNC. Btw, now anything that we share that we observed, it's all called "misinformation."

My daughter lived in Asheville. I went to go get her the Monday after the storm and brought her to South Carolina. Her and everyone she knows has been denied for FEMA, Disaster Unemployment, and disaster food stamps.

The usual reason is lack of documentation, like proof of residency, ownership, insurance, etc. It's hard for some of these people to meet the standard criteria if their homes are washed away. They are given time to resubmit, but it can be challenging.

I have an elderly aunt inside the disaster zone. According to her FEMA officials down there have been awful. Spoke with her again today & according to her, yesterday she personally witnessed FEMA officials confiscating aid off a truck brought in by a private charity. She was naturally upset & said so to the FEMA officials. They claimed to her that they are in charge of distributing the aid. She then spoke with the driver while they were offloading the pallets.
According to the driver (who is part of that private charity organization) FEMA is not distributing the aid. Instead they are shipping (at least a portion) the aid up into NY.
How does he know? He claimed to my aunt that after their aid was confiscated the 1st time many weeks ago they decided to start hiding a few of those cheap GPS trackers amongst the goods. He opened an app & showed my aunt a digital map with location markers that were displaying at their location & locations inside NY. Apparently he & his team are continuing to document this activity & at some point intend to bring it forward.
I believe my aunt so if this driver is being honest heads need to roll & criminal charges brought inside FEMA. This shouldn't be a political issue when we are talking about lives, safety & govt corruption because this affects us all.

Living here in WNC I have seen so many of those comments spreading lies about FEMA taking people's property if you apply for aid, etc. Where those people are located doing this who knows but I know one guy whose Dad is a big trumper and refuses to apply for aid because he believes all those filthy lies. I have heard of more people being turned down for the initial assistance than approved. Why didn't your story focus on the massive amount of of aid, donations and volunteers rolling in from all over the country and from private sources and Non profits like Samaritan's Purse, the United Cajun Navy and other groups. The state of Florida sent State Guard search and rescue teams three days after the same storm hit them. FEMA may help rebuild but they are not, do not and can not respond to immediate needs. BTW FEMA supposedly had people predeployed, if so why did it take them a week to show up? Why didn't your story cover any of that? C'mon man

The process id daunting! They have to apply, and if approved, they get a check or direct deposit (but they just lost everything and don't have their bank acct number). If they need further assistance beyond the initial $750, they have to apply AGAIN!

Thank you so much for going to Green Mountain. Communities up and down the North Toe and Cane Rivers were hit especially hard with historic high water and landslides. I live in Erwin, Tennessee, 20 or so miles downriver from the confluence of the North Toe and the Cane (they form the Nolichucky River). Erwin is at the mouth of the Nolichucky Gorge and the first place the Nolichucky could spread out. Local Emergency Management reported that they recovered over 99 cars in the floodplain, most of which probably traveled downstream from communities on the North Toe and Cane.
They found the one lady that lived in Green Mountain in the Nolichucky in Tennessee. This is beyond words.

You might feel like they showed up late in YOUR neck of the woods. And thats because of the topography and terrain making access so difficult.

Why are so many of the victim's online showing and saying That they aren't receiving any help from government resources?
1). They haven’t gotten enough help yet and aren’t considering the magnitude of the damage (no, your house isn’t going to be started to be rebuilt until the road the material has to come in on is rebuilt). Or 2). They are scared and have to scream. Or 3) they are lying or. 4) they are the kind of person who wants everything and wants it fast. Or 5) it’s a human tendency to blame everyone and everything when you’re under this kind of stress. Yes, it’s a mess and nobody is going to get their world back the way it was as fast as they want it. That’s just the way life can be. Ask anybody in the Middle East or Ukraine for starters.

It's kind of confusing here on the ground in Western North Carolina. People I'm working with some have been turned down for the 750 that I thought for sure would qualify. Others that I'm pretty sure don't qualify got the 750. People were really upset when FEMA came and was advertising to go online and sign up for FEMA assistance. We didn't have internet or phones. It was at least 8 days before anything can start. Most people thought FEMA would be doing the rescues. That did not happen. Most people don't know enough about FEMA to understand the process. I believe that has caused most of the anger.

Thank the Lord for those hundreds of volunteers, churches and non profit recovery groups that have come to rescue and recover those who have suffered such devastation and for their own videos that are telling the truth, such as videos showing blackhawk helicopter flying over a supply distribution station set up NOT by fema BUT by private volunteers and blowing supplies all over the area to prevent hurting people from getting vital supplies like water.....the big question is WHY?....why would the govt not help look for people, not help survivors get water, food and shelter, stop them from going home....could it be bc western NC is a valuable resource for quartz, lithium and other minerals that the locals, many of whom have lived there for generations, were not willing to sell their land so big biz and big govt could strip the land for these minerals....could it be the govt is land grabbing and now the land is prepped for excavation thru this destruction😏(see or read about NC gov roy cooper’s announcement that much of the destroyed land will be taken over by govt because it “is not safe” to go back to their homes and there are companies ready to move into the area( can anyone say “land grab”) 😏

It was reported by WNC news station that the incident was FEMA was on a man's property, the man didn't know who they were and assumed they might be trying to steal from him, so he confronted them with a gun. It was resolved quickly and peacefully.
I saw videos from Christian cults in Oklahoma who went to "spread good" by brandishing rifles and making RUclips videos saying FEMA was rounding people up

Fellow citizens and volunteers have done the heavy lifting in this disaster. FEMA absolutely has stopped truck loads of donated goods from reaching those in need. I've seen it first hand. I'm not the only one.

The first instance, they confiscated the load. The second instance the Truck driver got back in his truck and drove past them after they told him to stop. They didn't have the ability to physically stop him and they were unsuccessful.
There are other reports of the same thing happening elsewhere numerous times. One of them at an airport f rom a woman volunteering to help coordinate private flights of supplies coming into her area. she was threatened with arrest if she didn't stop and let FEMA take the materials instead of them being disbursed by other volunteers.
Who was that reporter? I wasn't able to watch because of 25 days without electricity. She spent more time talking to FEMA, showing a clip from Good Morning America then she did actually talking to the people who are living in and during this catastrophic event. This was not reporting this was making FEMA look good. Let's ask for another reporter, one who will come down and talk to the people and not worry about the bumpy road she has to drive on.

Thanks to all the local people that helped. I have family there on Double Island rd. They got power back. Bur there so much destruction. People need help to rebuild their homes. I was there in August. It breaks my heart to see the damage. My mother buried there. Please help rebuild Green Mountain.

Ask yourself why if FEMA is abusing citizens, you haven't seen it on video on social media. Given that virtually everyone in this country is walking around with a video recording device in their hand, don't you think someone would video it? Yet no one has, even though it would go megaviral. Instead, what we have is a bunch of RUclipsrs spreading conspiracies to get clicks. Oddly, even when the titles of their videos suggest they witnessed FEMA abusing storm victims, all that's in the video is the content creator sharing conspiracy talk with others.
Also - FEMA workers weren't the only ones interviewed. This is from 60 Minutes Overtime. In the actual 60 Minutes episode, they talked to victims and fire departments and civilian volunteers.
She talked to a resident, she’s right there at the beginning. Then she talked with the county’s emergency coordinator. This is a story about FEMA’s response, not about the fire department.

If they do talk to "residents or victims" they are actors. Anyone who trusts in the government at this point is completely brain dead. 2020 government proved it by masking people, making them take poison or lose their job, making them close their business, etc.

Try reporting honestly. Listen to the people living this. The locals know who is and isn't in their area. The volunteers have done the most for this area. Everyone I know has been denied the $750. Yet, we all were affected. So, yes, the locals, not politicians or bureaucrats, know what is going on. Neighbor helping neighbors. Whether they live in the state or not.
The problem is that if we had waited on FEMA, we would all be dead. Even if the $750 is supposedly just a beginning, I know of no one who has even received that. All anyone here in WNC has seen is approval for a hotel stay, nothing anywhere near us, and all of them full. What good was that? And where is even the $750 for immediate help?

I have been going to NC Bakersville area every weekend the storm and did notice anybody but citizens helping and the second weekend FEMA was bringing generators but supply plugs not available. Then 3rd weekend half was taken to a warehouse to store because it was not needed when it clearly was! All that to say this. I go because Jesus asked me to go and I will not be deceived! I am going to chose to focus on being a light in the darkness! All need Jesus and we can be that light to all but only IF HE LIVES IN YOU!

Flood insurance was not even offered on these people's sites some people tried to get flood insurance and were told it wasn't available for their area. It's a thousand year flood. That was also made worse by dams that were at capacity before the storm.
