Even if I could afford one, it doesn't move me stylistically. It seems cluttered and overly busy. Thanks again for the great review and all the attention to detail.
I miss all the cloth options you could have in MBs back in the days. In all sorts of colors and patterns.. Actually made a more cosy feeling inside than the leather. Nicer to sit on also.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. They can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even from plant-based materials (like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum). Or the Polestar 3 e.g. is using pine oil. And even if you still create a leatherette seat the classic way with petroleum base without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is very little in comparison to how much oil is used for other car parts or how much oil is burned for fuel or heating. By ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en). @@autogefuehl While I fully agree with you that it is completely unnecessary to use animal skin for car seats, I think OP was just pointing out that the kind of rich people that would buy a Maybach want leather seats regardless because it's got a more premium reputation. Maybe that will change with time
Gotcha. There are still rich people who don't care, for sure. But there are also a lot that do care, I know some myself. The most important point however is, that a manufacturer has the obligation to just offer products that provide certain ethical standards. E.g. Mercedes won't put crocodile skin on the vehicle even if the customer asks them to do. But they do the same with cow skin. But what's the difference between crocodile and cow skin, ethically? Yeah, cows are mammals and genetically way more related to us...
I had no idea these rear fridges could be taken out.. also, even if the rear space isn't thaat god as the long sedans, this EQS seems to do well with height and good rear cabin volume
The hyperscreen looks like a plastic glass in a Rolls Royce. You can't install such cheap-looking controls in a Maybach. Mercedes really doesn't seem to understand that more screen doesn't automatically mean modern technology. Creepy. At least the exterior design is currently the most coherent in the EQ segment.

I don't get the BS about real leather not being sustainable. Leather is a by-product of meat production. It is literally using something that would otherwise just get thrown away. Doesn't really get more sustainable than that. Meanwhile, artificial leather (now rebranded as "vegan leather") is just plastic. It has terrible longevity compared to real leather.

Personally I find the Maybach gls to have more road presence and nicer design than this also in the interior I find that it has too much screens for my taste and ambient lighting it's like someone bought a whole package of led lights from e Bay and put it all over the place so it can look fancy 😂
6:25 I respect Thomas for educating on animal welfare and corporate and customer responsibility. Thomas should make same personal passionate argument everytime he steps into a diesel or petrol car for what local tailpipe emissions are doing for localised wildlife who 'by no surprise' breathe the same local toxic air as humans via the combustion of liquid fuels.... and our children too just as a reminder especially outside our schools. But also why lower income families can't afford an EV for a cleaner standard of living. Why stop at what the seats are made of 'every time'??? Animals breathe aswell and our oil changes and oil leaks also cause disastrous localised damage too. Fossil cars are (toxic air composition alteration devices on wheels) Diesel + Air composition = Nox emissions which physically kill life forms and CO2 which traps heat which warms the planet which destroys Animals habitats globally via melting ice and increasing wildfires...... ...... but the seats.

@@autogefuehl thank you for the very well researched animal skin information post. I agree. Though it's not your job, I see your passion for the subject and respect you for it. But may I have a similar reply specifically on your research passion on how buying petrol and diesel cars effect localised air pollution and climate change? Assuming If your passion extends to how BEVs can make animals and human lives better via localised tailpipe emissions. It's just that this passion does not come across the channel as much despite climate change threatening more animals lives than the leather industry. All I'm suggesting is you may as well advocate for both. Lots of respect for you Thomas and love the channel. You do great work for the transition to non leather.
Yeah EV have the greatest potential for sure. Battery production is still a huge problem, but I see the biggest potential in EV. So when battery production gets cleaner and uses less resources, it will prevail I feel
Shame what Maybach has turned into. Instead of being seen as ultimate luxury cars, they’re just Mercedes with extra gizmos, very little sets them apart. Very underwhelming
Like other Maybachs, an overwrought, obscene, bling overload for those that must have an even more extravagant badge because a "common" Mercedes Benz badge is simply insufficient to compensate for their ego deficiencies 😂 Since MB keeps pumping them out, its obvious that there is a sizeable market.
This wins the award for the most ugly thing i have ever seen. This does even look on any angle like a mercedes. Give it sliding doors and it is an overpriced minivan.
@@autogefuehl for me, it adds more value when manufacturer uses recycled ocean plastic, vegan not from animal torture, sustainably sourced materials, etc. Even if car is not super cool. But Maybach has so much technological advances and yet when it come to moral stand, it destroys it’s own reputation. Incomprehensible.
6:30 if you care about animals, you care about climate. and if care about climate, you want to recycle leather from killed cows, not just bury it in the ground. I'm not that mad towards so-called "green" (I don't really think they care about nature), but when they have such huge holes in logic, I can't stand that. Like, for example, stop eating meat because it's cruel. Bro, that cow wouldn't even have been born without the farmer. And even if that cow would've been born as her wild relative - it would die so brutally in the claws and teeth of the predator, that any farm death would be a God's gift for it. I know it's a propaganda to make people consume less natural expensive products, but this propaganda could be a little more smart, ich glaube.
The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ruclips.net/video/S1aNZeoatmE/видео.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ruclips.net/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/видео.html And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: ruclips.net/video/6vXePQi_MAk/видео.html New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: ruclips.net/video/u94YXJ72UTA/видео.html More and more natural materials are rising: ruclips.net/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/видео.html Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: ruclips.net/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/видео.html For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ruclips.net/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/видео.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
"That cow wouldnt even been born" I dont know where this argument / ethic comes from, but how can you justify cruelty by that it is better to experience cruelty than not living at all? Just imagine you would tell human slaves "Hey if you wouldnt be suffering, you wouldnt be alive". Please. This isnt even a way of arguing we should consider at all.
@@autogefuehl Mein Godt, danke, ich hat nich erwarteret so lang antwort. Es ist schon zu lesen. Du bist gut vorbereitet, oder? I definitely could see some point of agreement - some could find such materials as velours more comfortable than a leather. I drop the argument of irrelevance of such a precise calculation of the impact on nature anywhere outside Western Europe, because we still need to care and someone should set the trend, especially the industry leader. I see your point on financing non-animal productions instead of animal production, but to agree on it I need to agree on your vegan presupposition, which I just don't agree on - it's a part of a bigger discourse. "Hey if you wouldnt be suffering, you wouldnt be alive" - well yes, literally. Otherwise, you praise nonexistence. What are the boundaries of suffering? What is suffering? What is a "good death" and what is "cruel death"? I can't see a proper definition on the exact level of "suffering" that could give someone a right to decide whether some human or some animal should have been born or stay alive. And that's why I bring the point of comparison farm life with a nature life, which looks more "cruel". Anyway it's a very big discourse for comments to a video about cars. Thanks again for your arguments.

I miss all the cloth options you could have in MBs back in the days. In all sorts of colors and patterns.. Actually made a more cosy feeling inside than the leather. Nicer to sit on also.

No synthetic leather option.

@@autogefuehl You're such a boss for speaking up for the animals. Much respect, my man!
Highly appreciated!
At least they have painted the front fender two colours and not just a fender in black like the regular EQS.
I had no idea these rear fridges could be taken out.. also, even if the rear space isn't thaat god as the long sedans, this EQS seems to do well with height and good rear cabin volume
Pice of art just wow
The hyperscreen looks like a plastic glass in a Rolls Royce. You can't install such cheap-looking controls in a Maybach.
Mercedes really doesn't seem to understand that more screen doesn't automatically mean modern technology. Creepy. At least the exterior design is currently the most coherent in the EQ segment.
Have the designers lost it at Mercedes?
What a disgusting car design. Nothing about this car even remotely screams class.
Hey it’s a new rear central tablet!!! Is it still Samsung?
Looks amazing, but why don't they use the floating Maybach logo on the hood? 🤔

Fossil cars are (toxic air composition alteration devices on wheels)
Diesel + Air composition
=
Nox emissions which physically kill life forms and CO2 which traps heat which warms the planet which destroys Animals habitats globally via melting ice and increasing wildfires......

So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.

In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse?
I prefer the new Hyundai Kona to this!
Mercedes is really on the wrong path with this touch crap!
Holy cow
the only thing this think will be killing is my eyes why does it look so bad 🤢

ahahah
Escuse me for asking Thomas, what should people do with the animal skin after they eat the stake ?
So it is the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.

@@autogefuehl Thank you for your detailed answer. Its honorable to stand by for your beliefs. But me personally never met a confortable artificial lether. I will give it a shot next time thinking of you.
thanks for the consideration! Its all about the quality grade, check with a BMW dealer if you can test the new Sensafin in a BMW X5 or BMW X7 - you ll be surprised!
To put it bluntly, it's crass and chintzy. Not at all luxurious.
👍🏻👌🏻✌🏻💪🏻
Looks cheap wtf?!?
The whale is hungry for krill.
premium segment is dead.. all that matter is the batter capacity.. only thing that has value in nowdays car
Are you telling me that I would not be able to have a dog cage in the back of this SUV? Useless!
Garbage Pro Max
I hope Mercedes goes bankrupt because this thing is an abomination
I think the Mercedes Maybach GLS, looks much better, a proper Maybach.I really don't like the climate change "Shuffle" and the lie of electric cars, people like Dan Pena actually know that the future is not electric..sorry but this car looks more like a chinese copycat
Great review, ugly car. And those screens are horrid and tacky. Already looks dated with those fat bezels. Can’t escape the screens in the gas maybachs but they are much better looking overall.
Carnivore cures
"Don't care about animals" spoken like a true vegan xD
Can you also just enjoy a coke?
What is that design? Why no one talk about this ugly desig which referring to SUV? Does SUV looks like that`?? MB MAYBACH GLS is a proper SUV. And this EQS looks like Toyota Avenza. Why it is necessary to such ugly design when you have EV? Why you simply can't have the similar thing like proper GLS?
I really don’t understand the problem with animal skin? People are not going to stop eating meat and bovine are not killed just for their leather. Everything is used. So would you rather they just throw away the animal skin?
no, i would just rather have the option because synthethic is better imo

I am enjoying life without hurting animals and I can do some pretty good lifting :)
The only discomfort is a discussion of “animal skin”. No reasons to say this.
i think there are good reasons to talk about it
If you feel discomfort, maybe do some introspection to figure out why that is and what you can do about it.

Shame what Maybach has turned into. Instead of being seen as ultimate luxury cars, they’re just Mercedes with extra gizmos, very little sets them apart. Very underwhelming
