The man was a huge inspiration for us young guys in the 90s who started lifting weights. I don't know how many times I watched his Blood and Guts video in the 90s before all my workouts. His 1993 black and white photoshoot physique was the epitome of bodybuilding as far as I'm concerned. He was truly carved out of granite !
Man Dorian and Jay Cutler are the two best examples of how to lift for longevity. They both look AMAZING for 50 and 62 , and give old guys like me good inspiration. I returned to the gym this past May since 2018 and I'm invigorated!!! I'm going to lift well into my 60's for sure! Lift for life!

48. I’ve worked out off and on since I was 15 but always quit after a few months. I haven’t worked out in 10 years. Started almost a year ago and haven’t looked back. I did the same. Push-ups, sit-ups, and resistance bands. Now I hit the gym as often as I can. I’m a truck driver so my time is very limited out on the road. Almost impossible at times especially after 500-600 mile days. No excuses. I force myself to go and I love it. Where there’s a will there’s a way.
I just turned 59 years old last month. I have been feeling that it is time for me to truly eat well, exercise to get toned, and maintain a certain weight. Now that Thanksgiving is over-it's on! Dorian has inspired me. 😎
If you compare the best Dorian´s body structure to today's pro bodybuilders, Dorian would still be the perfect candidate to win Mr. Olympia. In my view, Dorian is much better than many Bodybuilding legends! (including actual champion 2024)
Heavy weights over time will take a toll on joints & ligaments, super heavy weights will ruin joints & ligaments over time! Dorian Yates & Ronnie Coleman trained with weights like powerlifters, and both have sacrificed good health as a result. If you lift & lower under full muscular control using good form, you cannot use too much weight and you don't need to, so respect your body, don't abuse it and/or ask too much of it - Look after your body and your body will look after you.
@@johnking5759 the man is 55 years old and i have not see him reduce the weights on exercise he use as time goes and i think he has no damage to joints, tendons, ligaments or muscles, maybe genetics is behind it or some special recovery?
It’s great to be fit as long as we live. But let’s not deceive ourselves by saying, Age is just a number, because by Aging, we are moving towards death. So let’s grow gracefully, accepting the truth.
I had to come and comment on how great Dorian is looking. This is what healthy looks like. Inspire the newer generation to not go the bigger is better route.
Mentzer never coached him. He said that himself and Mentzer never claimed to coach him either. He did influence yates training. He did train with Mentzer while in the US for a short period. He said all if this himself.
If age was nothing but a number then all of these guys would look almost as good as when they were competing. We're all aging and gradually changing. It's a part of life. And while you don't have to be depressed about getting older you do need to make an intentional effort to slow down the natural breakdown of your body.
It is translated wrongly by Google "The old man is well put together", actually, it is totally the opposite, it should be translated to something like this " The old man is withered much". --- there is no actual translation for "összefonnyadt" though.
... friends, ist's just a statment ... His natural hormonebalanche ist ruined forever, like yours? With all the sideeffects? Outside shines bright, inside ruined?
I would agree, that lighter weights/higher volume is likey the best course of action for people after about the age of 60+/-. You can still build and maintain muscles, keep your bodyfat down with volume, and lighter weights.. and really after about 60-ish.. that should be your goal... not to compete in some body building thing.. All it takes is some stupid move with high weight to take you out and the time to come back from that can be quite long.. THERE'S NO REASON FOR THAT.. TO HAPPEN.. Stay healthy/lift smart
All that muscle from steroids etc is now mostly gone because he is natural. The question is, do steriods actually build muscle or just pump them up and up and up as long as you kept taking them because once your off, the muscle goes down down down.
The GLORY of an "older" man, so often put into shadow by younger lads. The phrase "He-goat" was always used by my nan to highlight a man of older years but who still retains his strength and overall physique, still pumping testosterone so to speak. She always had an eye for "experience" in men.Yates has this "He-goat" image in spades, picture freeze @ 0:22. silver hair yes but still a fine chest and belly muscles at 62. fantastic image of him @ 0:58 as a young lad but i prefer him as a "goat"!. He has a very well defined NOSE as well. It goes very well with his face (so to speak!). Also a MIDLANDER!......can;t be bad!>
Age is reality. Getting aches, pains, etc comes with it. You just push to be the best YOU can be. Thinking at 70 you can compete with a 25 year old...is delusional.
Exactly, age is just a number. It's used as an excuse with a million others. Just get off the couch, and do something. Be be active & competitive. No one said you had to win an Olympic gold, but go out and put effort in a sport of your choosing.
If he ate and trained like this he would look better .now hip with him and ronnie is because if too much heavy ass weights .heavy wreghts is for power lifters .now bodybuilders are smarter a nd using different equiptment andc training one body part a day is good .
It's sad that so many insecure men need to tell that they are older, drugfree *BUT* better looking than Yates... The man did what he loved, pushed the limits of bodybuilding with all things available to him - and that got him from a broken home and poverty in the UK to money and fame in the US! Now Yates live in Spain, is happily married, has two kids, own gyms and has embarked on a spirituel journey in the realisation that we are more than just a body. Yates had nothing to do with this video. It's a new form of click bait video - full of faulty information, edited and narrated by AI!
I am 63 and look better than Him. I have work out since 12. No anabolics. 100 natural. I respect him a lot as a human being. But don’t think he had a refined physique like Zane, Nubret or Arnold.
I have to kinda agree.. Sure, he looks good, for his age, but 'excellent shape' ? not in my opinion... I'm not a million miles away from that look and I'm nearly 59 - never touched the juice.

Yates has needed a hip replacement at a relatively young age...and that's a great example of how to lift for longevity? - interesting logic.
