HI. I have a question for you. I'm thinking about getting started with raising chickens. I'm not sure about the ratio hen's to roosters. I'm thinking about keeping 1 rooster to five hens. If I do this and gather the eggs for a week will all the eggs be fertilized from those 5 hens.
I didn’t build it. My dad gave it to me. He bought it years ago. You can find them online. The only way to hatch eggs from a store is if they are fertile. Most eggs bought at the store are from hens that lived alone their whole lives in a cage. So the eggs would not hatch. If the eggs were bought from a local cage less, free range farm, with rosters and hens mixed, then it’s possible to hatch them. That is not likely to be found at the average store though. You would have more luck at a farmers market.
@SurvivalHT appreciate the response. We have chickens and a 48 egg incubator. I was wanting a. Bigger one. The eggs he bought were quail eggs. I was just sharing. I understand the whole scenario lol. It amazes me the people who think chickens won't lay eggs unless you have a rooster. My wife was one of them. But thanks again for response

Pretty much. It’s typically one roaster to 6 hens
