- The Danube Delta lies in the north east of Romania, this is where the Danube flows into the Black Sea. Family Burduja live in the small and isolated village of Letea. Husband and father Mitica is a fisherman and the family live off his daily catch and what his wife Rodica earns at the local village shop. There is no end to the fish recipes in Latea - from fish cakes to fish soup, supplemented by whatever the locals have growing in their gardens.
What's cookin' is about traditional culinary recipes from different European regions.

they keep saying life is hard, but this is the most romantic life i have seen in a while. I bet the ones who go to the city still remember the full moon, the galloping horses, the boats, the reeds, and the singing grandmas.
I live and I was born in Romania and I use to spend my time inside the house or thinking how it would be if I was born in America and sometimes I wish I was born in America or other countries ,and now I see that even Americans and other people wish they was born in Romania ,now I see and realize that my country is the most beautiful .Come to romania you wouldnt regret of you come here:)
I visited Romania, good place, honest people.
My great-grandmother canned and pickled vegetables for her entire life. Even after she got a fridge in the 1940s she never stopped canning. She also made apple butter and jams.
I've never eaten anything better than fat meat and greens with her canned veggies, beans and plenty of southern porch brewed sweet tea. Good God, I wish i could go back 30 years.
What a very heartwarming documentary about subsistence living. Hardworking honest, salt of the earth people. Love it. Thank you.
This life style looks amazing on TV (phone might add) but living on a day-to-day basis I know is not easy. I grew up in a very a small village in Mexico where your breakfast, lunch and dinner came from the land you worked, my great grandfather raised me and thought me all i know about the land, he passed away when I was 17 (he was 106). Life is very generous, but sometimes it will remind you of how much we need God and nature's mercy just to be able to live another day!
100% agree with you. People from the coach/sofa they don't know about real life. :(
Don't bring god into the beauty of nature. What we make is our achievement, not some god's. Don't lower yourself by believeing that what you see can only be worthwhile, if a god made it.
Hardest/healthiest people!
Very moving story and so true. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful words dear.
These people live there for thousands of years. The life is hard especially in the winter but the Danube is supporting them. Their life is directly connected with nature. They eat simple and delicious food but they must work hard to get it. It is amazing to see how they live but not many of us (city people), will be able to live there. Other than that I love this video and I have a good warm, peaceful feeling about it. And I feel the need to say, Thank You.
Just watching this today, semi-quarantined at home - felt so simple, humble, honest with no signs of the self-induced stress we city folks have. I don't for one second believe it is NOT hard work in their farms/shops/rivers/lakes but they seem so self-assured and contended with their lifestyle. Thanks for this lovely documentary, much appreciated!
I was a guest in their house. They are so hardworking and hospitable and treated us like part of the family. The cooking was delicious. Life in the Delta may look tranquil, but it is so difficult to be isolated all the time and live in poverty. They make the best out of everything.
...the owner of 45 cows don't live in poverty...just hard work.
hey, is there a way i can donate to their families?
Georgiana Sutu do you have there address or contact kindly provide me
@@BlueRice Nooooooooo, don't make them dependent. They are proud, independent, hard working people who like their lifestyle. If outside money comes in it will change everything for them. It was a nice thought though!
@@BlueRice They don't want unearned money. They're proud hardworking people, not beggars.
I love when husbands like mine always express gratefulness for the meal served to them and in return, wives should thank them for working for the family. We should always be grateful because a simple “thank you” goes a long way
Hermoso comentario... totalmente cierto...
valentina janssens my wife beats me
A little innocuous remark "oh it needs a bit salt" I be told to cook my next meal..!
if every wives act like you do, world will be in peace mam
i'm from romania and i've spent my childhood in such a village, i miss my grandparents so much, its been years now since they past away and i miss going there, i miss my summer childhood summer vacations, nice doc brings up a lot of memories
I was very close to my huge family when I went fishing I'd have catch lots to feed everyone but one by one everybody is gone now so I don't even go fishing anymore
Im from Bosnia and Montenegro.... My family grew up the same , that lady reminded me of my tough ol grand ma .. rip she would give me a hard time but would give the shirt off her back to keep me warm .
I grew up in poland and had this kind of an experience. I miss it everyday.
I love their family,i was very inspired and loved.. hello burduja family.. love from the Philippines..😊 i love your country..
Romanian people are very skilled hard working people ! Great film, beautifully narrated !
👍🇹🇩

I grew up with 16 siblings10 sisters 5 brothers and myself. Salmon, trout, walleye, pike was my favorite,bluegill,perch.crappie.ducks,pheasant,turkey and gease. Chickens, pigs cows. Made our own butter, grew and caned our veggies, now I have a trade and work in the automotive industry in Detroit Michigan. I try to go home every month, I miss northern Michigan the most and feel empty here. To have a life worth living and God is guiding you. That is a life worth living. God Bless these people.
What a fantastic documentary I wish mittica and his family especially their daughters success and bright future Glory Be to God
Tota et Soli Deo Gloria!

Amen brother, Glory to God and his son Jesus Christ whom he hath sent.

Ladies and gents THIS IS FREEDOM!!! And I have no idea why i'm still living in the cold UK and not coming back from where I left, to the wonderful Romania and his people to enjoy life!
Cloudvick I know why , you want very busy life and hectic life like everybody else , I like country side but when no one around I don't like , I want to live not really busy but more populations not congested
You don,t know what you had until you leave it
I've learned about Rumania from this. Nice narrating, great pictures. It reminds me of a life in Sentarum Lake in West Kalimantan. Success for you all. Regards from a village around Prambanan Temple, Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
'They make it look easy because the pull together as a FAMILY to make it work, NOT an easy life. Bless you folks for all the hard work you do. AWESOME family :)!!
Tom Jones Well said. Life is hard. You can’t do it without family.
This is a very fascinating family documentary. I wish it was a series.. I enjoyed it.
God bless Romania!
It’s like Africa in the villages. I loved ❤️ this documentary all the way through 👏🏾👍🏾
Amen.
Oameni frumosi cu inimi curate ce isi traiesc viata cum nu se poate mai bine!O familie frumoasa cu comportament exemplar, bravo !
Proud to say i grew up in romania and lived thst life , down to earth humble and respectfull people in most places mainly small villages
My Dad would often say, "Utilize your resources". These people do. Most of us can too. Learn one edible wild plant, one wild mushroom per year, and learn how to eat fish with bones. Here in SE Iowa, USA, if you can eat carp and dandelions, you'll never go hungry. That said, I am also thankful for my computer, running water and that I can buy butter at the grocery store. Peace.
So nice to see that you are so grateful . May God keep you in His grace .
Thats the thing with carp, they're found everywhere even up here in Canada
Being able to feed your family and build your home on resources that are provided by nature for free must be the most satisfying feeling in the world.
Much better than living in crowded polluted cities
Dennis Ochenge unfortunately they may not know that, cos they have no understanding of the challenges of living on the grid since they have lived all their lives off the grid...it is human nature to want what we do not have, the grass is greener on the other side until we get there.....I guess there is pros and cons to everything...
this is the kind of documentary that I like.
Lovely people living hard and simple life. God bless them
I love the way they love each other that’s what life is all about simple living I envy them
This would be a much simpler life but good. I could see my blood pressure lowering just by watching this lol
This should be the real life of humans. No vehicles, No chaos, No office or programs. Just hard work and a beautiful like with mother nature....
Right 👍
This documentary gave me a good mood :)
Beautiful video, country life is great, no drugs, no crime, pollution, thousands of cars, etc. thank you
Crime exists in Danube delta also.Poaching maffia on very high level. The local inhabitants barely can survive.
What you see in this video is wery far from the reality.
True
@@sandorlukacs5618 Let me guess. The local fishermen are fiercly territorial, and if you want in on their business, you'll have to kill them. Literally. They'll visit you with a shot-gun if you mess about their waters. Yeah, I've done this myself where I come from, in North Norway. Local farmers take really good care of their cloudberries up there, but if they see a foreigner picking their berries, you can be sure it's shot-gun time, nevermind the laws. I mean, who are you going to run to? It's miles and miles from everything!
I was with a friend down in the lakes in Sweden. They catch crayfish, which is also really valuable down there. The farmers are really territorial about the lake areas they own, and if they catch foreigners poaching, there's hell to pay. There has been attempts at poaching crayfish, mostly by Germans, for some reason, but when I asked the locals about it, they just laughed and told me that "The lake is deep"...
It's not all wine n roses.
You think there's no pollution on the Danube? REALLY?!
20:08 "how much fish you got"
"Little"
Brings whole supermarket of fish
To get by in bussines you got to be a bit of thief. LMAO.
well they are cooking for 5 people. And that day the daughter was leaving, so I would expect they made a feast
@@leonardovosper8550 haha
Great documentation on a family in transition. The daughter already has one leg in the new world and the other one with grandparents and parents who live traditionally. Life continues whatever happens. Anyway, everything in nature has already given the best for Mitica and his family. May God bless him and his family and people in Danube Delta. wocomoCOOK thank you.
Every time I watched any Russians, Romanian, Bulgarian and etc from the Mid-East-North I feel like reading Leo Tolstoy's novel. The life style is so fabulous though in the 21st century some may not agree with my taste.
I agree, though.
Read also something else than only Tolstoy ...
I have watched this documentary more then 100 time because i love that kind of life those are most luck few people fresh food they eat what they grow and know where there food comes from fresh air fresh water hard work good sleep no cars 😁😁that young girl she is still 16 but she will love this life leter her 40s and will.know how she was lucky her child hood if o would have that life i will never change other stuped city life😁😁 free fish no one stops you what you grow and eat look those old ones they are health age 80 and 90 abd still strong and healthy
the narrators voice is the most calming and well spoken one ever
Mitica is such a sweet husband! The multumesc to his wife after every meal... It's very lovely. Good family life. I like the wife and daughter as well. They're beautiful inside and outside :)
God bless this family, and my wishes for the success of their daughter in life.
Happiness is in small things! Love it!
These people are so simple and humble yet so admirable.
My 2nd time to watch this..
So relaxing....remembering my childhood memories as how simple it is...no pollution, and money is not that big deal at all..unlike today on ur every move u need money at all...!!!!
I prefer this life but what I'm living now is more easier but again I LOVE HOW SIMPLE AND MORE LIKE NATURE LOVER ❤️ SO MUCH LOVE FROM PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭
If i was born in this village, id go to school in the city but come back to live in the village, its so beautiful.
I like this type of video. It's real, it's unique, it's something remote and interesting, full of ordinary life.
I was in this place and can i say that it's not miserable than look like. It's too a vry beautiful place. If you understand how these people live there, you will want much more to live like them.
I want to watch another episode on this beautiful fam!!
That looks so amazing, but it looks hard as well. A totally different life from what I have and I wonder if I could live like that. These are a proud and strong people and I salute them.
👍🇹🇩Salut
5:08 woah😲 the waterline is completely blended with the sky.. beautiful man..so beautiful..😇
Thank you for the great work you have done and love to the people...!!!
Netflix should pick this up and make a series :) I would watch it all
The grandma is so savage XD love it.
God bless them.. I think its heavenly life.. truly living close to the nature. I love it
I have watched this countless times. But everytime I watch this.
Its brand new. I just love it the most
Man I enjoyed this documentary so much and I was so into it I felt apart of there family while watching .. what a warm and loving video thank u so much for sharing this with us .... so enjoyable 😀
A lot of lessons in just one documentary, well set and well presented!!! Thank you.....
Without a doubt this is truly beautiful real life of a village. Thanks for making this documentary film
Their everyday looks tough. Thumbs up for keeping the good mood!
This is a very humbling doc. I really enjoyed it.
This is my first and favorite episode of the series
I've been transported to another nearby realm on the other side of the globe. Good to know the distant neighbors.
I love how they show and explain all the ingredients and methods for the recipes. I’ll definitely try the fish pie and fish soup! Looks delicious!!!
Thank you. Incredibly beautiful and thought provoking.
My father's name is Mitică. He was born in Romania, in the countryside, having a hard working childhood. I love my father!
I have finished viewing it. I am old (80) and disease ridden, living on borrowed time. Were I not disease ridden, even at this advanced age, I would have loved to become part of this family ...good luck to them. The girl should learn and return to her roots. Otherwise, she will be rootless trying to adjust the new environment ...not easy ..we should not kill villages ...they are the life givers. It is the village that is the 'BASE' Do not let the village die ...You are the REAL people of the society ...I salute you ...
Heart touching documentary . i enjoyed it a lot while watching. The life is more easier to live than hills and mountains. my wishes to Mitica and his family..from Kathmandu, Nepal
Did that old lady just blessed some beer? XD
I grew up living off the land and i could definately go back to it. Beautiful life
Simple village life just like where I came from. I love it.
Fried fishcake with fresh herbs, pan fried fish, steam fish, fish head soup and fish jerky are five of the best way to eat fish and is very delicious. I would be very grateful just have those fish everyday. What little Danube Delta has is paradise compare to other third world countries in Africa.
I was thinking of Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof, what a cracking village and humble lifestyle. Truly gave me pleasure to watch this.
I love to see how other people live that seems like a wonderful life !!!!
What a lovely village! Would love to visit.
By far the best in the series
Loved the family!!!
what a wonderful way of living, very simple and very resourceful..that is real life and contentment with simplicity... thanks for this documentary video.i learn more about simple living..thanks man
This very traditional, hard life is much easier to bear if you are surrounded by loving people who support you. Unfortunately, many such villages ended without future in alcohol, poverty and lack of access to a doctor. In winter there the world certainly looks even more difficult.
One of the best channels in youtube.
I watched this video 3 times...I asked myself what is money for when life in peace and tranquility is the only thing we wanted.
Money is for buying everything else other than fish
Money is for buying Beer at the shop.. and bananas
If you have please travel all over the world to make you more happier, I wish I have most abundant to travel see the with my own eyes
Money can't buy happiness. You are so right. Do you think Soros is happy? He would give away all his money to be 20 again.
many thanks to those who made this wonderful reportage, that brings joy and peace in our city dwellers life
Sometimes life like this is much better, than city life. I am so fascinated that life can be as good and simple as this.
Original life the best it can ever be. As long as there is power & running water i would live there forever. Preserve it Romania dont spoil it like industrialised countries!
Homer J Simpson most of the country is industrialized. That can't be done there because those are islands. The delta is protected by Unesco tho'. They try to preserve it as it is, as there are many species living there that can't be found anywhere else in Europe anymore. They use helicopters in case of medical emergencies but that doesen't mean it's easy to do so either. It's a pretty remote place
you mean most of the country used to be industrialized- not any more; the elected thugs and thieves took care of it to fill their pockets; people slowly return to the rural life style because they have no choice.
@@d1427 Romania has the best farmland of all of Europe. During Communist times, traitors within their own lines sold valuable humus (compost of the most fertile top-soil) to Israel; literally giving away their most valuable land for political favours. These days the EU fear the competition of Romanian farmers. "Lucky" for them, poverty and lack of entrepreneurship - mostly due to corruption, I might add - means most don't want - or dare - to really get Romanian farm output going. In fact, if Romanian farmers wanted, I'm sure they could crash the whole food market of Europe, so fertile are their lands! But of course nobody wants that. Most people want a _good_ price for their produce, so there's also that to factor in. In any case, I think the mal-use of the regular Romanian farmland is just sad, and I hope they get better, more stable, and less corrupt, political leadership in place. That would really do their country good.
@@kebman Ukraine fed 15 republics of the Soviet Union! even after the holodomor (genocide of the Ukrainian people) of the 1930s! Artificial hunger created in Ukraine by the Soviet government, for the sale of hundreds of millions of tons of wheat grain to the West and Europe! At the moment, Ukraine is the 3rd country in the world in the number and volume of agricultural products supplied to Europe! Because the Ukrainian land contains reserves of 40% of the world's black soil, the rarest soil in the world! Our ancestors were the richest people, before the arrival of the tsarist and Soviet power, which plundered and destroyed the family estates, houses, private enterprises and businesses, plundered everything acquired over many generations in the family.
"As long as there is power & running water i would live there forever."
"Preserve it Romania dont spoil it like industrialised countries!"
It's industrialization that brings you power and running water.
That was an amazing show! Thank you.
Brilliant content. Keep up the good work, documenting, preserving the disappearing old world.
Fantastic as real and natural it can get!!!!!!❤️
