- The island of Mljet lies in Southern Dalmatia, 30 km from Dubrovnik and is still one of Croatia’s undiscovered jewels. Fish and seafood form the basis the local cuisine.
After university Ivo Srsen returned to his native island, and has a business plan to bring the island to a wider audience: little parcels of local Mljet sea salt, scratched from the rocks as tradition dictates, make for the perfect souvenir.
Learn about recipes like brodet with sardines (Brodet sa srdelama),
Dragonhead Fish Pot (Skarpina pod pekom), Octopus salad with chickpeas (Sipa sa slanutkom), carob cake (Kolac od rogaca), the pasta dish Makarule goat’s cheese (Makarule sa kozjim sirom).
What's cookin' is about traditional culinary recipes from different European regions.

I do love these films. My people are from Jamaica and there is something kindred in the lives led. People who live off the land, who eat simply but deliciously. People recognize the true and priceless wealth of family, elders and togetherness. This was the peak of mans evolution. Everything else has been gilding on a lily that slowly choked the lily to death. IF we could return to this, we would be a better species.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever read
Perfectly put
So true I love your words and sentiment! One day soon it will be ! IN JAHOVAH DAY!

You can make salt from thr ocean... All u have to do is cook it until it turns to salt. I know this because that's what we do on our Island we don't need to buy salt in the store ....we make our own.

That island looks like paradise also man that Odysseus got around thats a hell of a long way from Troy
That's why they call long voyages odysseys.
I burst out laughing at that bit! If you ever visit Gozo, they have Calypso's cave too That one is a doozie. You have to go down a kind of ladder/staircase in a cleft in the cliff and climb into a kind of hole, which was pitch black when we did it. So there we are in this totally black bunny hole, and we hear a plaintive cry, in an Aussie accent 'Does anyone out there have a light?' Its seems that there is an even smaller hole, these 3 Aussies had crawled into it and their lighter had died so they just could not see to get back out again! My late partner handed through a lighter and we left them to it, me bursting my sides laughing. I could not get the idea that they had tunnelled their way Up from Aus and ended up in that hole in a rock out of my mind! Another great memory!
Indeed , it is a break from traditional masala packed cooking styles/ways. The extent of fruits in daily meals is surprising. Obviously, it is one of the healthiest food habits.
So Lucky So Happy People
What a nice family
Shalom! Toda rava.😃
I was born in Russia. for some reason, while i was watching this, i felt like i was watching a part of my life that i never got to experience.

Backyard on the water 😍😍😍😍😍
I love this. It reminds me of home. I was raised in an agricultural area, but we lived relatively close to the coast and fishing, crabbing and shrimping were very important to us, as my ancestors were mariners (sea going people) and seafood played an important part in our lives and customs.I loved it when we were at the coast. I love the seafood. I agree, returning home and living on the island in traditional ways is the best. I wish I could return to my fishing village, but it was blown away by hurricanes and now it (with government intervention and restrictions) is more of a ritzy place, not affordable to the fishermen who formerly lived there. So it is no longer my fishing village as I remember it at all. Hopefully I will find a place (somewhere in the world) where I can catch good fresh seafood for my personal use, even if just from the shore or in the various inlets, coves and bays, and not have to deal with much government bureaucracy. I just want to live out my days in peace enjoying a costal area somewhere.
good luck to you god bless
I think you are the only commentator who nailed it; these places are no longer possible or very endangered unless protected by the government, as is the case here. So many people go into dream mode, or tourist mode 'wonderful life, would love to visit this place'. Really. Best wishes, know what you mean.

I've had salt from Slovenia and salt from the Baltic. There's something amazing about it. It doesn't taste like Morton table salt. It's amazing. Kind of Briny. Like taking a raw oyster or mussel from that area.
People that don't enjoy oysters won't understand that I do thank you
Fantastic lifestyle

tourism is a two edged sword. It can generate income and employment, but it can destroy the very nature that you love.

Loving Life Fam not possible in a protected national park, unless you book way in advance as if you were visiting the Galapagos. Reason why there's no plastic or pollution in the ocean in this area.

Wow good eyes 😜
'Former Yugloslavia' has always been a haven for naked people. Mostly Germans. We were on a boat once , going between some Islands. We passed a nudist beach and all the naked guys suddenly felt the urge to pose on rocks, and all the German tourists rushed to that side of the boat to photograph them Hilarious! Another time we were on a coach passing a hotel. The guide explained that it was a naturist hotel, and Everyone was naked, including the manager. Someone called out ' If someone has a complaint, how do they recognise him?' In a all seriousness she said 'He wears a neckerchief' and could not understand why she suddenly had a coach full of hysterical Brits! Boy that was a good holiday! beautiful country, lovely people and amazing food.
Would love to learn the recipes they cook)
I thought Chinese, Japanese and Indians are most hard working but these people are working on two Jobs, handling three kids and then above and all they have their own products like Local Salt and Fish to sale + Activities for attracting more people to visit their beautiful place...Wait ...Did I miss something ?
