I have used both LV and Max Life (in my 2015 F150) and discovered they are both equal in performance and drive ability. The key for long transmission life is to change it at regular intervals. I wonder what a cold/hot pour would look like?

2009-2011 Panther Cars can use Mercon LV or Valvoline Max Life Multi-Vehicle ATF with no issues.
Using Max Life in a 1992-2008 (Mercon V) Panther Car is a whole ‘nother can of worms. lol

I don’t have the budget for the proper test equipment to perform that experiment.
We need someone like NATES INTERACTIVE AUTO, or Project Farm to test that. lol

eh idk man, have a 99 dodge durango and the transmission finally went out after 243k miles, and were known to go out at 90k and we beat that truck, we never ever changed the fluid, just added when needed

I like Valvoline, every bit as much as Motorcraft. I've been running the standard (blue bottle) Valvoline Mercon V in my 2007 F-150, which has the same 4R75E automatic as the newer 06+ Crown Victoria. 199k miles and the trans still shifts like new and I've towed some trailers a few times with that old truck up to 9k lbs. Good stuff. Either one is great.

I have a bottle of the "Blue" Valvoline Mercon V, and use it in my 2004 Vic, (but not the 2010 MGM).
The Viscosity index is much closer to Motorcraft Mercon V at 193.
Maybe I should test that one next.

Interesting results! OEM Mercon V is sliiightly thicker than the Valvoline Max Life. I suppose this could be the result of engineering compatiblity for such a broad range of vehicles. I do wonder if there is a measurable performance difference between the two.

I wonder about the viscosity at operating temperature along with the degree of break down after 5000-10000 miles of use. Which one still performs at new levels?

It appears Mercon LV (Viscosity Index 155) has identical results to Max Life Multi-Vehicle (Viscosity Index 163).
Would you use Max Life in your 1992-2008 Panther Cars that have Mercon V (Viscosity Index 205) fluid specification?

Sup dude. Can I use this maxlife in a 4r70w? I see the data sheet lists compatibility with Mercon V, but I won't trust it until I get some opinions. I ask because nobody around here sells Mercon V, and I need to change my fluid again. Thanks!

Hey Chuck, sorry to have been gone a while but I promise I'm going nowhere anytime soon. Question for you - on my 2008 Grand Marquis the radiator fan seems out. Now the car will overheat if left in idle or in traffic for a period of time. Also, the A/C compressor will only run when the car is in motion. Do you think this is all related? Mainly I ask in case you have experienced something similar in the past.

@@PanzerPlatform Hey again, turns out something was jammed up in the plug itself for the fan, so it wasn't able to make a good connection. It clicks in now, and works when temperature sensor is unplugged, and when the A/C is running. But it does not seem to run all the time. Do you know if these fans are only meant to run at certain times?

1.) Ford Motorcraft Mercon V is conventional, NOT synthetic.
2.) Ford Motorcraft Mercon V viscosity index is 205.

Can't really tell much of a difference from the viscosity experiment... I went with the Valvoline Mercon V only because it's so much cheaper.

The Valvoline Mercon V has a viscosity index of 193. I actually have s bottle of it on the shelf.
Maybe I should compare it with the Motorcraft Mercon V at 205 viscosity index next.

I just checked Amazon Canada, Advanced Auto Parts / CarQuest Canada, and Motorcraft Mercon LV is available for delivery.
