      @@barrypon1066 no, I actually had a 5 gallon bucket I'd fill up with a hose. I just don't trust the directly connected irrigation systems. Seen too many hoses fail and flood the place. Hey Dan! We set up a gravity drip irrigation for our seedlings for many years because we had to be out of town for an extended time. The one thing that we added to the system was a timer to stop watering. The combination of gravity drip and timed on-off really did the trick. Some plants don't like continuous watering - don't know about avocados. Nice job done! Take care and stay safe.

      Thank y'all for watching Mr Henry!! I've used gravity drip systems in the past but several years back I went with a really elaborate drip system for the raised beds setup on a timer, worked flawlessly!! This is great, I was looking for an inexpensive and convenient watering idea for my indoor cannabis grow when I go out of town for a few days at a time. Rather than bug my inexperienced roommate to monitor and water, this should take care of them being thirsty while I'm away. now just put a lid on the top of the bucket so the water doesn't evaporate. you can also put mesh to keep out mosquitos. also, if you have a gutter garden at a slight angle, this gravity irrigation would be awesome since it will just run down along the gutters, watering all of your plants on one tube. You can also cover the tube with some coconut core or leaves to prevent evaporation if you live in a really arid/dry environment.

    How long does this bucket last with barely dripping on 3 plants like that? I am trying to set this up for about 50 plants, maybe just 20 at first, plan on getting a 200L bucket, not sure how long that would last? And finally how much less water do you need with this system? I guess you should need about 50% less than normally, because of the targeted atering, exactly at the stem right?

    • @HomeInTheSticks
      @HomeInTheSticks  3 года назад +1

      Hello My Channel, welcome to our community and the channel!! The water in this system will last for one week approximately, I have to take the ambient temps outside as well. I would suggest you fill your container up and monitor the water being used using tick marks on the container, full on Monday, Tuesday 1/4 less water put a tick mark at the water level and so forth. Being that this system drips at a targeted area I would say that one would use less water BUT one would have to make sure that the emitter is dripping properly. I hope this answers your question!! I thank ya for watching and commenting, have a good Sunday!! Dan

    • @atentat07
      @atentat07 3 года назад

      @@HomeInTheSticks thanks good idea! Did you put the hose in hot water before attaching it to the connectors and drippers? Some suggest that that is necessary to have a proper fit, because the tubing shrinks from the hot water. However, I am not sure if this is really needed when only working with gravity as opposed to pressurized water?

    • @HomeInTheSticks
      @HomeInTheSticks  3 года назад +1

      Hey MyChannel, no I didn't soak the hose in hot water, just slid it onto the emitter and rocked on. If that was a pressurized line, that may be another story, gravity fed line, I don't think soaking the hose would be necessary!! Dan

    Hey Dan, question from central WI here! How long is it taking to drain a bucket? I’m wanting to water some blueberry and various other new berry bushes on a property 45 minutes from home. I’m hoping to only have to fill bucket every few days. I bought 1/2gph emiters to start at the bucket, but if that’s still too high, thinking an on/off switch like you got to further slow it. Any thoughts?

    • @HomeInTheSticks
      @HomeInTheSticks  3 года назад +2

      Hello Mr Joe, welcome to our community and the channel sir!! I was filling that 5 gallon bucket up every 4-5 days or so, depending on the ambient temps. My thinking on your setup would be a larger container if possible. The on/off valves are tricky to set and not guaranteed to emit the proper water amount after using the drip system I built. I'm guessing you don't have a water supply line on this property? If possible, I'd give it a trial run on one of those berry bushes and see what happens!! Do let me know how it works out for ya sir, I'm interested in your results!! Thank ya for watching and commenting, I hope I was able to help ya out some with my answers!! Have a good Wednesday!! Dan

      Hello Mr Dave, welcome to our community and the channel sir!! All the components to this drip system were purchased from the Lowes, I had an abundance of extra pieces and parts from prior builds so I was able to piece this system together!! Thank ya for watching sir, have a good Monday evening!! Dam

    Hi Dan this may be a silly question but when installing multiple drip hoses did you connect them or did you drill multiple holes in the bucket? I am very new to this and am considering using this system to water my vertical garden.

      Hello Marina Biley, welcome to the channel and our community mam!! What I did was use one 5 gallon bucket, drill one hole in it and connected one long water line using T''s to branch off into each pot!! All this sounds rather hard but once you get your 1/4 water line and connectors, it's really easy!! I thank ya for watching and commenting mam, grow on and have a great week!! Dan

    Dan, was that a kit you purchased or were the parts purchased separately?

      @HomeInTheSticks  4 года назад +2

      Hey Mrs Martha, thank ya for watching mam!! No mam, all of those parts and pieces were purchased separately, I would think that there would be some online irrigation companies that may sell a set, kinda like a "getting started" kit!! Have a good Thursday!! Dan
