    When I read a script I focus more of my attention on what’s going on around the words. Not only the words. If you get the sense of the scene and what’s going on around the words and the words will just come to you

  • @AmericanActionReport

    When an actor says a line that's not word-for-word what was written in the script, that's probably the way it should be said. When the script writer writes the lines, he's looking at words on a screen. When the actor says them, he's interacting with someone.

    • @dudhman
      @dudhman Год назад +7

      I’m not sure it’s as clear cut as that. I write and act. As I writer, I’m acting out the dialogue. I also created the characters, so I know what they’re thinking and feeling. When I’m acting, I respect the fact that writers - usually far more experienced than me - have spent far longer crafting every aspect of a script than I have reading and working on it. So generally, with a decent script, if an actor finds themself saying something different to what’s written, it tends to reflect that they haven’t discovered the character quite as well as they need to, yet. But it really does depend on the script - we’ve all read terrible scripts, so I can understand why an actor would choose different words in that case.

      Well good! With my 5 yrs of acting experience. I see good and bad acting anytime. A good actor will OWN the Character. Emotional, physically etc.
      What I find helpfull is ready other others actors parts before your lines. It helps to set the mood and tone of your Character. Then read your lines plain a few times. Then read your lines with emotions a few times. Change your tone and pitch some. You will slowly become the Character. There is magical number to say its perfect now. DON'T TRY TO HARD IT WILL LOOK FAKE!

    I'm an amateur stand up comedian and I have found that making cue cards with one or two words to help jog my memory helps me to memorize my routine. I have to use tricks like that because I have a poor short term memory, so have to practice my lines often in order for my lines to go into long term memory.

      No. Memorizing will happen naturally if you're present in the moment and keep exploring choices by taking the script off the page. Never memorize! If you practice taking the lines off the page the memorizing happens on its own. Harold Guskin - How To Stop Acting

    Thank you, this was most interesting. I just got my first supporting roll for a feature audio film (COVID). I’m so excited so this helped me look at the script differently. My question is when am I aloud to talk about it or put it on my resume? Do I wait until we wrap the film? Also, when I’m responding to an audition on Backstage and they tell us it’s best to submit quickly, how will I memorize my character when I have to submit it so quickly? Is it ok to read it for the audition? Thank in advance.

    • @ActingCareerCenter
      @ActingCareerCenter  4 года назад +4

      Great questions! As long as you didn't sign an NDA, I think it's fine to add it to your resume immediately. I wouldn't add myself to the IMDb page of the film though because that is public facing so I let production handle that.
      As for the backstage auditions, my goal is to submit the audition as early as I can as long as I've given myself enough time to put the necessary work into it. I'm not going to submit early just for the sake of submitting early. That being said, you need to practice the skill of working on your auditions quickly. Get to the point where you can memorize any script under 10 pages in 48 hours. The majority of my auditions have about a 48 hour turnaround and I am almost always memorized.

    I am assuming that by approaching the script this way, an actor comes to memorize the lines of the characters he or she is reacting/responding to as well as their own lines? I make the choices for the persona my character is responding to as well? I think you are talking about working over the play whilst alone without a partner….? Thank you for posting such great content. It is very helpful to me.
