Making of accessories for cutting wooden threads

  • In this video, I demonstrate the process of making jigs for cutting wooden threads.
I've often wanted to make wooden threads, and even looked online for the necessary tool for cutting, but the price of the large diameter threads cutters is unreasonably high, so I put it off until I received the 50 mm metal bolt with a nut for free. I thought that a wooden threads such diameter would be strong enough to use in my future projects. So I decided to give it a try.
This time the outcome of all my effors was designed in the form of two oak and one ash bolts with 4 nuts. I also made a lot of threads blanks for my future projects.
Reminding to all my subscribers and viewers that the brutal war started by Russia against Ukraine continues, Russian aggressor does not plan to change its criminal plans. We sincerely appreciate and thank all our allies and partners for their support.
    We believe in victory!
    Glory to Ukraine!
    Thank you all for watching!

I did something similar with a trapezoidal TR20 threaded rod as a tap for making internal threads in wood. If I'll ever do it again, I will not choose a trapezoidal thread (like the one you use) again, but use a more typical 60 degree triangular thread profile (perhaps even a custom 90 degree thread).
The trapezoidal profile has high cutting forces with the blunt ends of the tap. A triangular cross section should cut with less force. It should also be possible to use a thread cutting box with a simple cutting iron, not necessary to use a router. I found it impossible to make a cutter for a trapezoidal thread that would work in a thread box.
Unfortunately there aren't commonly used metal threaded rods that would make a good wooden thread cutting tap, so it would be necessary to make a single point cutter for the external threads too.
Awesome project, thanks for the video.
