- Being the second part of this look at Fender Japan's Troublemaker Telecaster
Beginning with an improvised lead over a band-jam and using a range of volume, tone and pickup combinations, along with delay and clean boost as required.
Looking at the versatility of the independent volume and tone controls with both overdriven and clean tones before a mellow and melodic outro to fade.
Post-processing consisting of cross-fading voice and instrument channels plus a little plate reverb.

Very tasteful playing and the second part rounds up your review very well. I admire how you search for different colors on the guitar using the tone and volume-knob and experimenting with the PU-positions. I usually ignore all electronic options of a guitar and search the tone more with the amp-settings. On my actual guitar (The natural superstrat) I have disabled all controls and the neck-PU is a dummy :-), so just Bridge-PU in serial to the output.
Thanks Dirk. I think my tendency to adjust tones and volume reflects my 'old school' tones and playing style. I use a master volume tube amp for overdrive but I like to change the distortion tones - usually increasing everything as the solo heads to a conclusion !
Well Hello, again and you started off with yet another GREAT! tasty bit of lead work. GREAT! demonstration of the guitar on the drive and clean channels with some more fragments from the new album and it certainly handles the Rush tones very well with and without the chorus. Nice way to round the review off the guitar off too and very well enjoyed Gordon and glad the guitar does the job for you mate and it looks like a good guitar...
Thanks again Lee. Yes, this one covers a lot of ground and will see plenty of action when the next recording phase begins
I just bought this as my first electric guitar, after 25 years of playing acoustic. I always wanted a Tele, and the guy at the shop suggested the Troublemaker as a really good, versatile instrument. Certainly feels wonderful. Still playing around with the different tone and pickup configurations. Would it be possible to get a good funk guitar sound out of it?
I've had the Troublemaker for four months and its versatility is quite extraordinary. Around 6:00 on this video I'm playing simple fingerpicking using the middle position and I think that tone, with more pick attack and left-hand muting would make for convincing funk vamps. There are also videos featuring this guitar with alternative pickups : a Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz pair push it towards hard rock, and a HB-sized P90 pair heads towards a pseudo-archtop tone. However, I decided to refit the stock pickups in November because they cover so much ground.
Good luck with your Troublemaker
Your playing is just fan-friggin-tastic on this video too. I mean, whoa. Take a bow
Ahhh - thanks ever so much. I tried to keep the opening lead building over the 2 minutes
Wow, what a combination of tones!
Thanks ! The 4 control layout suits my tinkering style and I'm very impressed by this new guitar
