I remember having a discussion with a friend a few years back about why some older anime stories never seem to go anywhere. We came to the conclusion that creators back then just came up with any random shit to see if anyone would watch it. And if people found it worth watching and wanted to see more from it, then the creators would expand the story a bit more via an animated series.
@@AscendantStoic That's the problem with "will they won't they" plots. Once something actually happens, the point of the story is over. Unles you're actually a good writer who can expand on it of course, but eh, well, that's not usually the case with these sorts of publications. :P
It baffles me this story was ANIMATED of all art forms. Like, seriously? Twenty-four frames per second for this script? This honestly feels more like some art students first few tries with one of those point-&-shoot VHS cameras.
"Media Blasters.... why?!" Funny, the question I've always asked about them is "Media Blasters.... HOW?!" I think they're still around but it has to be one guy and a PC these days.
Berserk's non-ending is more abrupt than it is "empty." If you mean the manga. Then again, if you're talking the 90's ending... nothing is more abrupt than that.
It seems the game was originally a 1997 release for Win95 and it was part visual novel but also dojo simulator? It was ported/remade on the PS1 as Kaitou Ranma Miyabi in 1999. The artstyle of the PC game looks good and what you'd expect from a PC game from that era.
I think the reason why the bland male protagonist is so forgettable (and doesn't even grace the box art), is because like a lot of harem protagonists, we male anime watchers are supposed to be able to project ourselves onto this blank slate and have the girls (the girls who, don't kid yourselves, are the main draw as depicted by their prominent display on the box art). I feel for those characters that are only there to be the surrogate to the reader/viewer. They don't deserve the cross they bear. Doomed to be hated or forgotten through no fault of their own.
That reminds me of the Higurashi games where Keiichi didn't get any character art until the 5th game and that was only because it was told from someone else's perspective. They even make fun of this during the after-credits party where they say Keiichi can't appear for this reason.
I'm sure the character designer for Saber Marionette J did a lot of design works in the second half of 90s, as a lot of Anime from that time look like Saber Marionette J.
Were you dared to find the blandest anime to cover this week? This makes A Very Private Lesson sound like a Tarantino flick. Space Travellers looks more engaging. And the sound quality of this dub is awful.
Looking back, I know I tossed heaping praise at Media Blasters in the 2000s for picking up great titles like Rurouni Kenshin, Moribito, Genshiken, and Berserk. But viewing things now, never realized they got their good share of forgettable and horrible schlock as much as Central Park Media did back in the day.
Looking up the anime, the Japanese voice actors are almost all prolific and have starred in lots of quality anime. So, I wonder if it just boils down to a paycheck or the Japanese just really don't mind churning out these kinds of productions? Well, it got Bennett to talk about it and we got to watch the episode, so there is a silver lining!
When Sage talked about how even the absolute worst harem anime knows that the female characters have to have something to them that make you like them, remember them, want to continue watching them, the first thing I thought was "What? Even Love Hina?" Then I remembered, Love Hina's characters may be aggravating, hateful, annoying urine boilers, but let's face it, you may loathe Naru Narusegawa... but you'll never forget her.
Funny thing about Love Hina....try reading the manga. I distinctly remember the girls being SIGNIFICANTLY less detestable in the manga, even Naru, while Keitaro actually has a spine every now and then. Going from the anime to the manga was an interesting experience. Oh, also the plot actually finishes

ok so i found a little info on the visual novel, first and foremost, it was developed by Imagineer Co., Ltd., it was the second to last thing they made before stopping in 97, the scenario staff was Izuheisei 1 Gou, who made one other visual novel, izuheisei 2 gou who made six or so other vn, last one being in 2018, and kagasaki hideki, whom i cannot find any information on, the character designer for the visual novel was Naruse Yuuji who also made, Romance wa Tsurugi no Kagayaki II which had an anime in 2001, and two others, one being a ps2 game, so needless to say their isn't much of anythign behind this anime or visual novel
This sounds like someone wanted to do their own Tenchi Muyo but didn't want to put in any kind of effort. Milquetoast main character whose fore father is/was the important figure in the past? A bevy of beautiful babes all show up and desire him for seemingly no reason? MC is the undeserved special and is hopelessly awkward around said women (to an insultingly stupid degree)? For some reason I'm pondering whether or not this anime would be better if everyone's gender was reversed. At least it would have some novelty then. "Do you like guys with muscly chests?"
Media Blasters management deliberately impose a "poverty mentality," attempting to inspire their employees to preform efficiently. Like, blowing the stakes out of proportion as to how much is riding on the next release selling well. The reality though, is that they've done better than many companies in the Anime industry, and were never actually close to being insolvent. I saw an interview where former employees talk a bit about this. Mainly from the stand-point that Media Blasters management, despite the over-the-top doom-and-gloom pressure heaped on the grunts, were never very convincing; the employees always knew it was BS. RE: how Media Blasters made money, I think what it boils down to is that these licenses were so cheap that, even if the releases sold incredibly badly in objective terms, they'd still make a profit. Like, if you only need to sell maybe 200 copies to break even, releasing something that's a niche within a niche within a niche makes more financial sense.
I suggest either turning down that damn backing music or removing it entirely. It’s interfering with your vocal track like a home release of a Hollywood movie

Could this one be even worse VN adaption than that Tsukihime anime.
At first I thought the title was The Sword OF Terrible Cringe, and thought to myself "that's my weapon of choice."
Happy Holloween! 🎃🎃
for whatever reason the character designs here look tame compared to Saber Marionette J which were more exaggerated in facial proportions.
Anyone else think the background music is a bit loud?
I don't know why, but the clips you show make it feel like it takes place in the modern day.
Women falling in love with someone with not that much interesting qualities is quite common in anime.
That background music is not it Sage, its distracting and out of place.
Yes! I knew that Saber Marionette J was somehow related lmao
I suggest either turning down that damn backing music or removing it entirely. It’s interfering with your vocal track like a home release of a Hollywood movie
