  • Hey everybody, it was a quite difficult decision for me to take this travel, being in the middle of a pandemic, an entire year of staying at home, finally pushed myself beyond the mental restrictions and there we go, flew to Belgrade, Serbia. Never regretful, never gonna be in my 20s again. Although the camera quality disappointed me, tried to tell the story. Enjoy!

Architecture is very visual; I think it's a missed opportunity to not show the buildings more; zoom on details, etc. I'd love to learn more on the topic; this didn't dive in deeply enough imo. Could you cover it another time? :)

Oh I always appreciate nice critics, thanks, sure, probably in another country :)

@@katr2773 well then I’m afraid local architects might want to take over the topic because I just traveled there three years ago and I usually do these kinds of videos with my own shots, that’s why I specified that my next work would be about another region

@@BravoArchitects You got most of it right. One more prominent fact to correct would be about the city name - Beograd (which indeed means the white city) - it predated the Ottoman Empire by several centuries and is an early Slavic name for the city of roman Singidunum. Also, none of the original buildings which may have been an inspiration for the name exist, except perhaps for some small parts of the ancient fortress walls (which are today gray). Also, National theatre is almost entirely neoclassical, only has some very small influences in its plastic from art noveau, there are many more majestic examples of that style in Belgrade (here art noveau is called Secession - after Vienna secession).

@@axiomaticaardvark8983 Oh thanks a lot for correcting. I'm not surprised actually it predated the Ottomans several centuries. It was a story I heard from one of the locals, not anything written. I thought it would be interesting to mention.
The buildings, I loved every parts of them

Otomans ruled the city 1521-1688 and 1723-1804, total 268 years of 2000+ years of city history.
Unfortunately, they have left nothing notable.
Name Beograd comes from 7th century, latest.
Oh, correction, Otomans ruled and 1811-1815.

@Binsr no, I like Turks, got me wrong. But, all you have mentioned is pretty much all that left.
It's more in a names of locations in city center , than in architecture. Kale Megdan, Dorćol Is dort-yol etc...
