It is utterly mind boggling how easy you make this look. After watching and donating for a while, I bought a Switch and Mario Maker 2 just to realize that shell jumps are way harder than you make them look.
That was exactly how I felt when I first got the game. Even some of the “easiest” levels he played were still a challenging for me. Ryu’s just too good.
@@alexivonspeed nah bruh shell jumps are easy just got to master holding down b while letting go of y (or thats how i do them)
FYI shell jumps are actually impossible in SMM2, cause they require throwing a shell while between facing left and right which they made impossible

@@wavekingprogamer8180 No, that's not what I mean, shell jumps are easy. The hard part is putting all the skills together in one fast paced level that must be read quickly so you know what to do. That's what's hard and what Ryu is great at.
The difference between SSM1 and SSM2: For PLAYING, SSM2 is sooo much better. The levels have better quality control, there's not a flood of BS tech levels, and it's just an all around better experience. But for watching a streamer/youtuber suffer for our amusement, it's hard to beat the entertainment value of SMM1's steaming pile of sweaty garbage. Thank you for suffering so I can chuckle with my morning coffee.

I'm actually not sure that the playing part is true. ThaBeast talks about how Endless Super Expert is nothing but easy levels and then the run ends when you get a moderately hard level that 30 lives arent enough to beat. It's less about the streamlined levels and more the differences in Endless vs 100 Mario and having a genuine preference to one or the

This series really shows that removing 100 mario runs from SMM2 was a mistake. You just don't get the same tension with the endless super expert.
yeah, in smm2 its just a bit "whelp... ok. i just played some hard levels and died after a while. cool." you cant even set reaching the 2nd page as a goal, because you only get 30 lives. yeah they basically killed hot garbage in smm2, but super expert is super expert
They should just make it comeback
The satisfaction when completing a 100 mario run is also way better than smm2 endless runs. It's endless or death, but no rewards. The only thing that gives you a 'winning' feeling and some real tension is multiplayer versus, but not as fulfilling as this.

They should play with an update and allow it for a week to see how it goes. A lot of games do little different modes periodically for fun.

How to simulate 100 Man in SMM2: Super Expert search alternate by plays, general/vanilla, and clears. Roll a die-roller to decide on a level from the results list (100 die is preferred but 20 seems fair). Every death countdown from 100, every 1-up grants a life max is 3 per level, if the countdown reaches 0 you lose, if the countdown is alive after 6 levels you win, use the remaining lives to give us bonus content.
The runs have been insane, INSANE!! But so much more satisfying to have a clear objective!

Honestly the one with all the hidden blocks was pretty cool. Unfair as hell, but a fascinating challenge if you're in the mindset for a bit of a scavenger hunt.

Playing SMM at your level is a skill I think is really cool, but I know that developing that skill takes a lot of time that I simply don’t have right now (got other responsibilities, ya know). I’m happy you post videos like this because it still lets me experience this awesome game, just in a different way
After playing MM2, I'm not really surprised to see people going back to MM1. It has fewer features, but it also has some huge advantages -- ability to download/view/edit levels, no paid subscription required for core gameplay, ability to bookmark and share levels, and modes which actually have an ending. Also, slightly better physics.
Would really like to see the MM1-style "maker" thing applied to other games... like Celeste, The Messenger, Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight, and other platformers which aren't momentum-based. They all feel a lot more responsive than Mario Maker.
SMM1 hundred man is far more entertaining than SMM2 endless and it's not all that close. So glad you've started playing this again!

Man, after watching SMM2 runs, I really get to appreciate what you mean by the SMM runs. The degree of garbage that you can get is just so much worse in SMM. That said, it was pretty amazing to watch you mechanically dismantle and then beat the stages.
Mario Maker 1 is so much more fun to watch than Mario Maker 2. The 100 Mario Challenge combined with the endless stream of hot/moist garbage makes it so hilarious.

Been playing a ton of SMM2 on my channel but you recent SMM1 vids been making me want to revisit SMM1 as well! I miss 100 man! Nintendo should bring 100 man to SMM2, it wouldn't be hard to add it in!

Well, only you need to entice us Ryu! Thank you for the hot SMM1 action. About the two Mario Makers I would like to add some thoughts!
SMM1 is much less predictable than SMM2. SMM2 might have more gadgets, be prettier and less janky, but by making it more controlled, which has been an ongoing effort from Nintendo, changing P-switch jump timings and what not, the gameplay becomes so much more linear. The engine is more made to always let happen what you would expect and cuts out many strange effects by simply making most things much easier to be removed by collision (for example coins turning to blocks on enemies works very different). The what looks the same, but the how behind it leaves many more unexplored options in SMM1. Also, the 100-man-format gives much more emotion to each run, because it gives a beginning and an end. I hear you say "is that what the creator wanted" sometimes and I think to myself, you know, a really good level should not have only one solution to every challenge. Due to its "softness", you could say, SMM1 allows for many more squeezy, cheesy and weird solutions by nature. Take alone the spike hitboxes. SMM2, by changing them, took away many many possible setups and replaced this maybe uncountable amount with a very restricted different amount of setups.
Also, because you mentioned you never would have thought you would enjoy SMM1 so much in 2019: There is a perceivable change in the emotional state of the content going from 1 to 2. Endless runs have this much cooler, calculated feel to them. Taking risks is not rewarded, because you have so few lives and infinite levels. 100-man on the other hand gives you a feeling of possible abundance, together with the squishy mechanics actually handing out rewards for risk-taking. It feels so much more like an adventure, and endless feels so much more like work.
Also, SMM1 being old means that the levels are already very well sorted from the like/skip recommendation algorithm which Nintendo surely has in place, although I am pretty sure this effect is not as big as the other ones I just described.

These old super Mario maker levels remind me of that AVGN karate kid review where he says something like “what if I make a game and it’s just one jump but it’s almost impossible BUT if you make it you win?” It’s like people watched that and thought good idea!

Last level: "Rätselschloß" can be translated to "puzzle castle" (or "riddle castle" if you take it literal).. I assume their intention was for the player to find the secrets which make you able to clear the level.

(Japanese Mario maker community calls a midair a TAS jump, and a spring drop a hip spring jump, because you butt-slam into a spring.)
