Back in the day malls on Thanksgiving weekend were jammed packed with shoppers with shopping bags full of Black Friday bargains. They shopped until they dropped all weekend long. Very sad to see no hustle and bustle at the height of the shopping season. Thank you for all you do for us and hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving.
Wow, thanks for making the video and putting it up on youtube. I lived in Muscatine when I was in junior high school from 1979 to 1981. I spent quite a bit of time in this mall since we enjoyed going there. I used to get my hair cut there and they also had a Baskin & Robins. I saw Moonraker, The Blues Brothers, and The Jerk at the movie theater in this mall. Last time I was at this mall was in August of 1991 while visiting relatives in town.
Up here in Sterling Heights,Michigan and Lakeside Mall has opened up in the 1970's. Lakeside Mall is a 2 levels of shopping. Lakeside Mall had Crowley's,Hudson's,J.C.PENNEY,Lord &Taylor,Sears. Crowley's Closed Permanently and Hudson's took over the Crowley's Department Store and rebranded to Hudson's. Macy's took over Hudson's and rebranded to Macy's. And,Sears has closed permanently and Sears abandoned the Sears Store. Lord &Taylor has took over the Lord &Taylor and rebranded to Macy's Sleep Shop (Mattress Store). The only 2 anchors left is J.C.PENNEY and Macy's. And,when the City of Sterling Heights buys Lakeside Mall. J.C.PENNEY and Macy's will remain and will be remodeled. When, the rest of Lakeside Mall and the abandoned Sears gets demolished. The old Lakeside Mall will be Apartments,Restaurants, and Retail. And a Park will be added. Lakeside Mall will be renamed Lakeside City Center.
Von Maur closed around 1994/95. I remember reading that the store was closing in the muscatine journal and was so disappointed because that was my favorite store growing up
Sad to see what happened to this place. I don't have as many memories of this place as some other malls but I still have a jacket I wear sometimes from the Younkers and I remember seeing a movie at least once at the theater. There's an Iowa DOT location behind the mall near the rear entrance of the old JCpenney. It's where I got my 1st drivers license
I remember in the mall they used to have a Whiteys which is a Midwest Ice Cream Shop and I used to go with my dad all the time when I was little and then they closed I was so sad and upset…. Also my friends during high school we would go to JcPennys and younkers to shop lol but I also remember the movie theater as well I would go with my friends or family to see a movie!!
I remember diamond daves was inside the mall back in the day also radio shack, Walmart and other stores i dont really recall i was very young late 80s early 90s great memories though!!!

Von Maur and Walmart/Menards is an…interesting anchor mix.

Love all the rounded windows on the storefronts. They always look like Pearle Vision locations.
Nice video never heard of this mall. You should do a mall visit at The orchards mall in Benton Harbor Michigan
It's definitely on my bucket list

I remember the Beavers East pizza place in the mall mid to late 80s. The lumberjack all meat pizza was awesome
My Mom Dad, & I were at the wal mart grand opening many years ago at this mall
So sad. Thank you Sam Walton.
I'm not sure if the mall stays for much longer!

Definitely a case for de-malling.
