- My Brother in Law's Coleman Octagon 98 Tent has seen quite a bit of use of the last 3-4 years. It has seen heavy rains, high winds, and snow loads and has kept people and gear nice and dry. This tent serves as a gear storage and card room on our annual Elk Camping trips and has also done a great job of housing numerous campers on family camping trips as well.
Watch our original review video with more details - • Coleman Octagon 98 Ten...
The Coleman Octagon 98 is nice and airy without the rainfly which makes it perfect for camping in hot or humid weather. It can sleep up to 8 people and has a divider which can create a 2 room tent.

I stand behind this tent for what it's worth. I currently own a NEMO ultralight high end 2 person ultralight and have had NorthFace and many others. For what these tents were designed for I would put this tent against them. It has not let me down and I have USED this tent. It does get cleaned, dried and folded right everytime it is used. Good vid OWWC
Critical Customs thanks for chatting with us about your tent, its done a great job and I was impressed with how well it handled the snow this past year.
I was surprised it didn't collapse. I didn't have any stakes in or guylines staked. Just popped it up and was done. Been a killer tent.
I have it in this very colour., went through 2 nights of extreme thunder storm, nothing happened no father inside, no bending poles no movement nothing.. I went and bought the darkroom technology one because of how wonderful this one was to us.. still to test it but I am awesomely impressed with this..❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the review lads. Helped me loads. Cheers.
Great tent, impressed that it's held up thru as much as it has. Especially at elk camp.
Yeah it has done really well over the long haul and it has seen a lot. Thanks bud.
Look cool
Thanks for watching!
Awesome Video! We just got this tent at Ross today for only $49.99 Originally $250 on the tag, also the only one they had. So excited to use it this summer, we're in Northern California. 💕😀
That tent is the best!!!
I was laughed at on a very very windy campsite in December - that Coleman was still standing, nothing moved, I had a lovely night's sleep. It may look like a Gazebo, but the Hydrostatic capability out does many £700 plus tents!! They can't officially say it's 5000 but I guarantee it is!
Did you pitch it in windy conditions? If so how was it erecting it ?
Good size tent. Kinda like mine with out my porch
Thanks for watching Beau, it is a big tent!
Im getting one 👍👍👍👍👍
Nice!
Thank you guys, you've sold me. I've been researching tents lately and your real life long-term review is more valuable than a Coleman produced advertisement because you're actually using this thing year in year out. Question, not that I won't figure it out but is setup and teardown easy?
Glad the vids helped! Set up ans tear down is fairly easy. The first time might be a pain but everything is color coded. By the 4th time you set it up it will be a breeze!
This looks like a really solid tent. I'm looking at getting either this or the Coleman Cortes, but am having difficulty distinguishing between the two other than them potentially being designed for different markets. Anyone know?
where i can buy divider sheet for this tent?
Just found this video as I’ve just bought the exact tent, thanks guys! I haven’t been able to figure out online though; what kind of weight can the central ceiling point hold?
How much is it I want
What do you think, could it handle -10 / -20 degrees celsius weathers if I craft a chimney bushing in the ceiling for a hot stove?
We want to keep it installed always in the farm house.. How many days does it survive - if we keep it installed always? maximum heat 48 "degree Celsius" we get in summer for 3 months.
if he doesn't want that tent anymore I'll take it lol! my last tent had a door zipper fail during my september camping trip, good thing I packed a bed sheet so I pinned that over the door opening so I could have my privacy. I could put my cot inside this guy's tent, wouldn't fit in my last one. just can't afford to buy a new tent now
This tent could fit 4 cots and still have room... having a bedsheet along for that sounds like a good idea. Hate those zipper fails. Thanks for watching!
I packed the sheet because I did not intend to get in my sleeping bag at night, it was just a topper for my air mattress, was still very warm in Iowa Labor day weekend
How many twin mattress and sleeping 💤 bags 💼 can u fit in the tent ⛺️???????
You can fit about 6 adults in sleeping bags in the tent comfortably, 4 twin mattresses most likely.
you may never see this because the post is quite old. I've had this tent up all summer in Northern WI and have LOVED it. I have the head of my double bed and when the outside fly is open, I look straight up into the stars.
Now, I'd like to build an viking like A-frame over it for the winter, but I'm just not good with geometry! I've used the calculators on google, however, I'm still stumped. I'm planning a 16x16 foot ground frame around the tent. Anyone able to tell me how long the rafters need to be to clear the vertical sides? It's just not a simple hypotenuse calculations. thanks if anyone see this!
oh, I just plan to tarp it, not roof it. I'll take the tarp off in spring and enjoy the stars again.
Looks really roomy. Does it have any accessories to heating during this type of weather?
it doesn't look like it but id like to know for sure myself. i guess if it doesn't you could make one or use a mr buddy portable heater. Maybe ill check out some of the past videos this is a very interesting tent indeed.
No built in accessories for heating. We use lanterns and Mr Buddy heaters when we are in there to play cards and it is cold.
You got it, we use the Buddy heaters like this ( amzn.to/2ivDq1o ) most of the time or the smaller buddy heaters.
Chris, you wouldn't prefer this over a Kodiak......would ya ??
In most cases no but if I were car camping in the Humid South I think I would go Octagon over the Kodiak Canvas, all depends on the situation. In the situation of Elk Camp, this was basically a storage tent, our living quarters were a Kodiak Canvas Cabin Tent. Thanks for watching!
We have this tent, is practically brand new. We some how left one of the top white poles at a camp one year and Coleman said they don’t sell a replacement for it. So basically the tent is garbage now. :(
Try ebay
Hi, i just done my first camping with hubbys 2 kids and my mum. The tents huge so we had no issue in space.
i live in England, Uk. Our weather itsnt so good. We just done camping in 50 miles per hour winds.
i just couldnt figure out how to keep the wind out. it was coming in from the gaps between the flysheet and the mesh from where the doors are. really stressed me out. any idea how i can fix this
I think you will find in most tents of this size, if you camp in 50 mph winds you have to expect some wind. It's not a tent I'd chose for camping in rough conditions like we get sometimes in the UK. But then I'd probably choose not to camp in those conditions anymore.
You could also move the tent to a position the doors are away from direct wind, bit of a pain but worth it for 10 mins of messing.
As stated by @multipreach this probably isn't the best tent for 50mph+ winds. It will mostly likely stand up to it but it will be breezy inside.
@@multipreach2674 it was ment to be a heat wave.
@@multipreach2674 we moved the tent so backdoor was facing bushes and the other door was away from wind direction, it stood reall well in 50 miles winds,
Proof that if you take care of your gear it will last.. price does not matter when buying a tent. Take care of it and it will last.
Preach on brother!
Exactly right. I have had North Face, NEMO, MSR and a few other tents and still have most of them (1-2 person ultralights) and would rate this tent among it for it's intended purpose and only because I have taken good care of this tent. Always cleaned, aired out, dried and folded right.
Is it good for cold weather?
I’m in the Uk and recently got this tent. The ventilation is amazing on a hot day but when it gets cold at night, all the ventilation works against you. I was ok but the Mrs was freezing. Gonna have to make sure you are warm enough!
Would a double air bed and 3 singles fit in here please?
It would be a tight fit, you might be able to pull it off but I'm not positive.
I suggest the camping bunk beds, great if you have kids
have you had to pre spray with tent sealer at all on screens and fly yet?
The tent isn't mine but I asked and my brother in law and he said he has never treated the seams, screen, or fly. He hasn't really done anything but use the tent. Hope that helps!
looks like a beauty thanks for the reply
Could I fit a pool table inside?
Maybe... It would be a tight fit and you would have to crawl over it rather than walk around it.
Interested in selling?? I’ve been searching everywhere for this tent and I can’t find it anywhere. Live in Sacramento, willing to drive to pick up.. CASH PAYMENT.. how much would you let it go for?
It's readily available online. They changed the color to blues. Same tent though.
Out West with Chris looking for the full fly like the orange one. The blue is only 1/2 fly and has different window panels. If your friend is interested in selling, let them know I am interested. He can make some money towards a replacement.
I will pass the info along.
Out West with Chris thank you so much! Could you let me know what they say? Thank you!
