You should reach out to Trogly's Guitar show. He's got some old Gibson/guitar bodies that need to be restored. He has several up on his Reverb shop. Just found your channel!
I really enjoy watching your videos. I've noticed you wearing Wounded Warrior gear and today saw a Navy slogan hat. As a disabled veteran, they always put a smile on my face.
Beautiful neck, well done! but I really have to ask.. Why aren't you masking your fretboard with tape when working on the frets? Even when glueing the inlays, it would've prevented the spilling into the wood, like you mentionned. I'm not judging, seriously wondering if there's a reason why you don't do it.
I've never seen anyone glue the fret board to the neck blank before routing the shape before....I like it, I may steal that idea and try it myself, haha. I like the idea of being able to use alignment pins without having to be so careful about their placement. Great video!
I wanted to ask a pro about the fretboard glueup and truss rod potential problem. Maybe that blue pvc shrink wrap makes it not matter. I need to know as I’m about to glue my first fretboard on. I do feel like the tape trick may not be as foolproof as thought. Glue squeeze out would likely still make it to the truss rod, even with the tape trick. Does it matter at all on how glue may negatively impact the truss rod functionality? Thanks!
Awesome video! I just bought the Stewmac table saw blade. What do like to set your blade height to in order to account for lost thickness after you radius the fretboard?
Wait a moment... may be I' not paying attention but was the wood previously roasted? Did you carve the neck profile and stuff with the wood roasted already?
Nice maple! Man I love the truss rod jig! Me want! How much? Serious I'll buy one! Bro, ya gotta get that $7 sanding disk for a drill from home depot for shaping the back of the neck. Also works well to get that contour down by the truss rod. Trust me on that one! The drill is slower than a grinder so you have tons of control on how much material you take off. Best shaping tool ever!
Hey Dan, can you take a maple neck that is already finished and roast it? I am pretty sure you can't do that but I just wanted to be sure. I have a couple of maple necks from a couple of cheap guitars and I have a Tele neck in a cheap Tele Kit that I was thinking I wanted to put a roasted maple neck on, but instead of buying one I was wanting to just roast one of these I already have. So what ya think?
Could you provide the link to the templates? I'm really struggling to find some good acrylic templates and don't want to burn like 70 bugs just for a plywood template that might last only four or five builds...
When using the neck template to guide your drill press for tuner holes don’t they eventually need to be replaced as the template holes get nibbled away? Same for the inlay dots.
I Don’t think you have a good unferstanding of what a roadten neck is. I’ve been in BioChemical for 15 yeats and use large scale Virtus Sublimators. You change the chemical structure of the wood via vacuum and heat i.e. Sublimation is the transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas state, without passing through the liquid state. Do yeah um…

Nah just try to support veteran orgs. Father and grandfather where. Thank you for your service.

Beautiful workmanship!
Great job, love your approach to building necks...
Life is busy so I wanted to say I enjoyed that you didn’t just talk about nothing. Everything was relevant. Nice job!
That neck looks beautiful. Love the inlays.
The turquoise touch is awesome. Beautiful neck.

The StewMac rasps are expensive but they are an absolute pleasure to use. Worth the money in my opinion.
Beautiful! I wish I had those skills!

Nice work!!! What is the product you are using to finish this neck? Thanx!
What is the name of the finish ? Looks stunning
the turqoise was a GOOD choice
Can you tell more about the saw blade you used to cut the fret slots? Maker? Model number? thx.
Well done 👍
Looks absolutely stunning! What did you use for first finish?
Thank you for a reply.
What brand and mixture of urethane did you use?
You Rock! Hope you are going to join the TEXAS TOAST guitar challenge!
Nice.
Sweet!
Do you have an Amazon link for the round over bit that was used on the neck ?
how about the gold top restoration
It only takes 14 minutes to build a neck? Wow!
What’s the thickness of your fretting slot blade ?
what size was this truss rod, Derek? Love this color neck
Awesome video! I just bought the Stewmac table saw blade. What do like to set your blade height to in order to account for lost thickness after you radius the fretboard?
How much does it cost to buy a neck from you guys ?
What wipe on urethane do you use?

I'm sorry if you have gone over this in other videos, but what is the product you are using to finish this neck?

damn you're good
Look awesome! Is it really a 59 profile? Looks a little thinner in the video
What kind of sawblade are you using for the fretslots on the table saw?
Thx a lot!
13:58 looks like a familiar, well-worn '53 Brazilian fret board.
What exact color of dye did you use ? To make it that browm roasted look? Amazing work !!
It’s roasted maple looks that color naturally
Hey,
what is this powder you use for inlays?
When using the neck template to guide your drill press for tuner holes don’t they eventually need to be replaced as the template holes get nibbled away? Same for the inlay dots.
Yes eventually
How much does this sell usually?
Where did you learn how to build necks? Thats the one part where i’m hesitant
just go at it.
wow that neck! Killer!! Dare I ask, how many hours went into that?
WTF is blistered maple! Is that some new thing that they made up?
how is it roasted??
oven baked

That is a jig, it is not computer aided..
Bro, you gotta roast the neck, fried necks are so bad for your six pack bro😅
Les Paul video's???
Getting there.
Does it smell like cookies?
And here I was under the impression you didn't like building necks.
I don’t. This was a promise to a friend to get done. Starting to thing about the 53 again
@@bigdguitars, gotcha... looks like a nice neck.
@@bigdguitars, P.S. no hurry... take your time, do it right and take however long you need to take. I have plenty other guitars to play.
Awesome job, but the shape of this headstock is toooooo ugly. 😢
Can you build me one for my Strat?
Opinion: Carbon fiber truss rods make the guitar sound different.
A carbon fiber truss rods makes your asshole sound different
WaxP3 gives a fart more of a farteete quality.
You're not keeping that radius block very straight when sanding the radius, it's all over the place... 🤔
Really man? I'm willing to bet my life that neck is pretty much perfect!
There’s at least one in every forum.
i want to build jazzmaster neck with mahongony shaft purple heart fret board and azarite malachite fret markers. is that possible? will it work well?
