For edging I've found it's really nice to flip the original loop handle upside down and move it further down the trimmer's shaft. Now you have a designated edging handle with more leverage and control than before.
Hello from Decatur Illinois. I have the Darwin Grip 6.0 on my Dewalt 60 Volt 17" trimmer and it's been great. Saves my back and makes handling the trimmer easier in my opinion. Cool video.
The Darwin's Grip looks like an attachment that would make using a whipper snipper/grass cutter a bit easier on the body. I'm interested in getting one to try out. I have around a thousand trees that regularly need grass and weeds to be knocked back around. It would be preferable to cut them back so they rot back into the ground rather than spraying them with a herbicide. So I'll have a think about it as I just bought a rotocut attachment to cut the grass.
You have it assembled wrong and it's in the wrong position on the trimmer shaft. No wonder it's uncomfortable for you. Set the trimmer on a flat surface. Attach the bracket to the trimmer shaft with the hole for the grip handle above the shaft. Insert the grip handle in to the bracket and tilt the grip handle to the 10 o'clock position for rightness or 2 o'clock position for lefties. Tighten bolts finger tight. Slide bracket up or down trimmer shaft so your arms are straight and your back is erect when using the grip. There is another possible adjustment on the bracket for taller users to raise or lower the grip handle from the trimmer shaft. Once you have comfortable adjustments for you then tighten all bolts securely. Use the grip a few times and then make any comfort adjustments necessary. I think you will find this assembly helpful and more comfortable to use the Darwin's Grip on your trimmer or other machines.
Do you have any advice for an old fella with lots of arthritis. I use a deWalt cordless trimmer and it is not very well balanced. It tips heavily towards the cutter head and after 1520 minutes use my left arm is in trouble having to take the weight of the trimmer all the time.
You might want to try a double shoulder harness made for weed trimmers, one with a waist belt, not just a chest belt-the full monty. That's even more expensive than a Darwin Grip, but we old guys need to protect ourselves. It's not going to cure the imbalance of the tool, but your left arm will have a lot less work to do when most of the weight of the tool is shifted away from your arms to your trunk. I use one, and it makes a big difference. But I may add a Darwin or similar handle, as well, so I can really be at ease. Time to pamper myself.
Good explanation, thanks. Do you find the loop handle with Darwin grip better than a bike handle style? I have a loop handle but was considering swapping to bike type, maybe this is an option?
I would 100% go for loop + darwingrip, i found with bicycle handle i cant do edging and there are lots tight corner i cant reach with it. Bicycle handle is only good for large area knock down job
I prefer the Featherlight Leverage Arm. I had the Darwin grip at first, however once i tried the Featherlight I found it to be superior in functionality. It allows one to flip the trimmer into any position necessary.
@@jacobedwards4472 No. What has actual occurred since this post(7 months ago) is I have done what "mtn moto adv" suggested in his post. Install a Darwin and then Flip the original handle upside down as a designated edging handle. It works really well. I've done away with the "Featherweight"

I have them on all my machines. They are especially good on stick blade edger's as well.

I was about to say. It's upside down. A few people on RUclips have done this. I can see why they do it though.
Hi just subscribed to your channel,I am in Melbourne Victoria, what state are you in?sincere regards.
I’m in QLD
you would be happier with the Featherlight Leverage Arm = the best
I think new 6v dont have any issues. Except fitting in to toolbox
I’m getting one of catch-pros new ones. Apparently they’re sweet.

@@jayson3298 Thanks for the tip Jayson. I will look into it. I did get a 7.5ah battery and its helped tip the weight more towards centre.

Great piece of equipment mate. I’ve never taken it off.

U got it on wrong. It's over the top, not on bottom.
The mount that connects to the trimmer bar is Incorrectly installed, the mount should face upward. not downward...
You’ve installed the bracket upside down.
