  • A chilling ring camera footage shows a man carrying what seems to be an axe. He is 42-year-old retired U.S. Marine, Ewen Dewitt. Minutes later, a frantic call was made to Milford Police Department by a 17-year-old saying that his mother was being assaulted by a man at their home, the same man who was spotted on the ring camera.
What was the relationship between Ewen and this woman that led to this shocking incident? What could drive a former Marine to such violence?

Things like this have gotten worse since 2020 with all the law "reforms". Violent And unstable people are either not being charged or let out or let out early despite evidence that they shouldn't. Another women ended up getting killed by an ex a while ago. She basically did the stuff this one did and even tried to get a gun. Because of the long waiting process and the irresponsible people in power she ended up getting murdered.

I had to go through the same thing with my abuser. He tried to strangle me to death when I was pregnant with our son. Had his friend not intervened I'm certain I would be dead. I immediately went to a DV shelter and got away from him. The court told me that just because he harmed me when I was pregnant doesn't mean he will abuse our son and he's allowed to see him until he proves otherwise. On top of it, he has his parents convinced that I beat myself up to frame him, so they are completely hateful. It's the most stressful thing in the world.

Let me tell you about Julie from someone who grew up with her since we were in elementary school. Not only was she beautiful on the outside but the inside as well. She was a dedicated and loving mother whose world revolved around her children. If she had run into you and didn’t know you but you needed help, she would have helped you. She was the most beautiful person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
I would say it was pretty admirable of her to stand up to her abuser, in doing so, trying to protect her kids. Going to law enforcement and doing everything in her power to keep everyone safe. I am a huge law enforcement supporter but the law and our justice system failed Julie terribly, taking away one of the best people I have ever known.
You are victim shaming and it is not a good look. You do realize that you can flip your comment around regarding men too, right? Imagine that, male victims as well. Her being a single Mom has nothing to do with the fact that we need to do better at helping people with their abusers.

I got a restraining order against my abuser, who didn’t have a drivers license. During the hearing, the judge gave him visitation TWICE weekly. To stay in compliance with the visitation order I was forced to violate MY OWN restraining order. Our system is BROKEN. The restraining order was granted due to many things, one major thing being that he tried to punch me in the face while I was holding our daughter, who was only 2 1/2 years old at that time.

This is why I hate when people say "why didn't you leave?" When children are involved it is so difficult. You could have been beatеп to a pulp and they'll still allow the aьusег access to the children: which allows access to YOU. The courts do not let you move away from your aьusег and they still allow the kids to be around a violent unhinged person. They're afraid for themselves but mostly their kid's safety. And still courts allow this to happen.

Far too many people experiencing problems and/or violence from an ex or partner are NOT taken seriously and the victim and on occasions even the children of the victim can become casualties!
The courts need to listen, and act, not try to give all the doubt to the potential offender, there is far too much at stake for the potential victim and their children OR family!

So the judge sent back an arrest warrant after he violated the RO and also had an assault charge against her already, wanting more information or reason to issue a warrant. SMH
This is why victims end up dead! Because no one especially those who are supposed to protect us, the justice system dismisses a victims plea for help! How many MORE are going to have to die?
Frankly the public also dismiss victims. I see all over videos like this, people blaming a VICTIM for what they did or did not do. Last time I checked, we don’t blame someone who has been in a bank hold up for going into a bank, or blame someone who has been carjacked for driving so why is a VICTIM of dv/sa blamed?
Additionally, these sick perpetrators spend less than half of their time in prison and get time for “good behavior”. My ex received time for good behavior even tho he was violating 2 RO’s (1 for his first wife and 2 for his son) while in prison. Better he is a 2 time convicted felon-a habitual offender of dv! Charged with 37 felonies and 3 misdemeanors for what he did to me.

He stalks her at her work and rants and raves in the car park, pulling up men and accusing them of having affairs with her. He watches her house and just walks in when he feels like it, embarrassing her visitors and accusing them of being her lovers. Their adult children enable him and make excuses for him - she has protected them all their lives from a father who never turned up for their birthdays and sabotaged every Xmas and family occasion......she brought those kids up alone without any help from him - he was always away boozing and drugging and having affairs. She went out to work and she bought and paid for their house while he never contributed Now her adult kids are seeing him for what he is since the eldest daughter took him in when he was evicted from his flat. Now he is causing her and the other kids all kinds of trouble. He has tried to run my friend off the road twice.......all the protective orders make no difference. He doesn't care about going to jail.......and when he gets served the divorce papers he is going to go ballistic. He has never accepted the separation and he will never accept a divorce. I am very scared for my friend.

However, it’s run through a third-party, who then has to alert law-enforcement. Most times that third-party is not paying attention. no bail for violent/dangerous ppl? I absolutely agree. but for all other offenses, it would be impossible to house them all without bail for one. and its unconstitutional. jail doesn't rehabilitate anyone. the whole system has proven over and over to cause more harm than good in most instances.

I am in complete shock by what the LT Governor said during the press conference. She has the nerve to say "we need to get the community involved so that we can identify situations that are dangerous so that we can keep people safe". WTF? That DID happen! She did everything in her power to legally stop her ex and was basically forgotten, which got her killed in front of her own kids. I cant imaging the hurt that she felt both emotionally and physically during the murder. Knowing your going to die and you dont know if they are next or if they will be murdered as well. Her kids are most definitely traumatized and probably a little different after witnessing the brutal murder of their mom. I am 100% Pro PD, but its almost text book for Police Departments nationwide to hold press conferences like this one when they know they screwed up badly. They try to get a little heat off of them and onto the subject and his/her circle of friends and family for not speaking up. The problem with that is the fact that she did exactly what she was supposed to do. Yet were left hanging. Prayers for everyone impacted by this awful murder, especially her kids.

I hate these type of cases... She tied to do everything right. She left, she filed for a protective order, she let the police know she is scared and want then to act... Unfortunately with these type of people nothing can stop them from murder if they are set on that. The police tho... How many women have to be ignored or not treated seriously, how many women have to die for people to tread stalking and abuse seriously. Yesterday I saw a post about a woman (unfortunately she wasn't identify other than "a (state) mother" who was found dead few weeks ago, she was previously JAILED for CALLING THE POLICE TOO MUCH. Wtf, that's what you're there for, to help. Nah, jail her because she's seeking help from people whose literal work is to help. And what makes me angry... I know there will be some men trying to spin it as "just a father desperate to see his child". No. He was an abuser. If your partner was physically abusive, would you want her to have shared custody or unsupervised visitations? I don't think so.

Sadly, police not caring or prioritizing DV cases is the norm. I, and many others like me, finally stopped calling the police for help, because they never did anything and were quick to invalidate my experience as the victim of a horrifically abusive person. The police officer who chose not to fulfill his duty should be liable as complicit in the crime. The moment they start feeling consequences for their failure to act will be the moment they change. Until then, there will be a whole lot more "RIP" posts for victims of DV.
