For those who don't know, when you harvest the gel, it can be dehydrated and turned into a powder. Powdered aloe gel is quite a bit more concentrated than the raw gel because you remove the water. This powder can be mixed with any hair care products or skin lotion. Also the powder can be added to smoothies to help with detoxing your body.

Thank you for this video. I am gonna do exactly this to grow some cuttings I got from a 30 year old aloe plant. The name of this specific aloe is aloe vera?
Thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and I learned a lot. The bottom can be turned up and planted. He is 20 years old ( from my son’s pre school plant sale ) I have gotten 23 pups over the years ( not all so puppy size) from this gigantic aloe. Now I wish I didn’t cut him off along the trunk but he was so big he couldn’t stand up even if I did what you did. he was flowing over the side of his big container and slinking along the floor by 2-3feet. I needed help lifting him up and getting him to where I could work on him. I cut the trunk while it was in the container 3 “ from the bottom had to cut off all of his huge leaves they were not as plump and now I have a much smaller plant but still big. My question is. The less plump leaves I cut off are green aloe inside but some are oozing red brown liquid!!! Does that drain off and I can still use the aloe? It’s pretty creepy. I see the green there too. Some have more brown flesh. I’m letting the plant hang for a while like you suggested. Not sure if you said 1 or 4 weeks but I ll wait til the trunk looks calloused There were pups in the bottom also and interestingly I guess because it was low in the planter, mushrooms grew. Too moist I would guess. I had moved it away from the window by a foot a while ago. Happy gardening. Anyone know about bloody leaves I’d appreciate the feedback.

Please tell me what I've done wrong please😭😭😭😭
What if the cuttings have been laying around for 3 weeks, they look good but do I have to cut a little bit of the bottoms cause it looks really really brown and dried

I water it when it's totally dry... every couple of weeks in the summer... and when i remember to bring the watering can around in the winter... Hope you have good success with your propagation project :)
Hi Bill, I really _really_ want to be good with aloes, but I have a history of watering them to death. I have the idea that I should only give my "big" aloe (it is about 30cm/12" tall) 1 TBSP or 1/4 cup once or twice a month. It seems to be okay so far with that, but how much water should I give my little pups? (They developed under someone else's care outside [in Toronto] last summer while I was away.) The pups are about 1cm, 2cm, 3.5cm, 5cm, and 10cm tall respectively (with leaves that are skinny, flat and dark green) (as well as two that are 6cm and 7cm tall and plump and bright green) all have 2 to 5 leaves and as of March 2nd most are no longer attached to a bigger plant (only the 3.5 and the 5cm ones are connected together). Also, what size of pots should I have them in? I am hoping they will thrive. I want to keep these ones in particular for sentimental reasons. Thank you very much for your time, and for your videos. Yours are the best aloe videos I've ever found in all my searching. Happy planting and growing season! :) ~Karen :)
How long does it take for an aloe Vera plant to grow larger … by larger let’s say twice its current size? Assuming it’s also given the right kind of care , soil and pot size.
Hi Bill I love your video can you tell me what kind of soil you use for the aloe I heard kind of sort of but didn’t and please post an image that I may know what to look for at my local Lowe’s Store Thank you so very much in advance 🥰💕🥰🌱🪴#APlantLoverAlso
Hi!💜 I have a question about one of my aloes, if you don’t mind:) So about a week ago, one of my aloes’ leaves fell off, and I didn’t notice until two days ago. At first I was going to set it aside when I saw something near the end where it’s dried up, and it looks like a seed in it. Is this possible? I shallowly planted it to try it out, but I wasn’t sure if it could be a seed inside or if it’s just a place where it has calloused over in a strange way. Thanks!
Interesting... I wouldn't be a seed as they are not produce in or on the leaves.. it might be a calloused bit or something foreign that got in there some how.
@@PlantzNThings awesome, thanks! I really didn’t think it was possible, but I’ll keep it planted, because who knows what could possibly come out of it😅😂
G'day from Western AU! How many is, "a few days"? And while you were letting them dry, what were the temperature conditions? How long can I wait between the cutting and the planting? I have two, huge sets of Aloe Arborescens, which are over 6 US ft high x wide. I need to cut it back quite a lot in order to allow workers in to repoint the roof/replace gutters. Help!
Is there a way to keep them from growing in all different directions; I have an exact aloe but a lot smaller? Also, can I use rooting compound after letting them callus over?
I'm new to Aloe plants. If I cut plants stem in half to replant it's outgrown twisty top, will the empty, but rooted trunk stump continue to grow a new plant?
many times they will... but sometimes they don't … its a roll of the dice… but worth it... it can take a while... mine just recently started pushing out some new growth.
What did you do with the aloe vera leaves cutting? I heard you can't actually grow a new aloe vera from planting the leaves, even though there are videos claiming you can
I tossed mine in the compost... but you could harvest the gel if you want to utilize it. There are plenty of videos out there about that. I personally have not had any success with growing an aloe Vera from a leaf cutting... but I'm sure that have been a few success stories.
Does anyone else hate the smell of aloe gel? I cut a few leaves from mine and almost gagged at the smell... it smelled like onions/rotten potatoes. I always thought aloe gel was colorless and odorless?
I have had this plant for 11 or 12 years and it wasn't very big... a coworker gave me some offsets wrapped in paper towel. And the babies started a few years in... took a while
Im so glad I found this video - it has given me hope! But I would love to ask your advice for my situation, as Im not sure if your method will work for me. I received a 6” variegated aloe in the mail - it was delayed 11 days and came rotted at the bottom. I cut out all of the rotten parts/cut off all of the rotten leaves. After scraping away all the rot im left with about 3” of plant, 5 leaves with about 1.5” of stem. I dont see any leaf nodes on my stem. My question is: will it still grow roots? Should I cut off some of the leaves further up the stem to make a node? I dont want to leave the poor plant with two teeny leaves :( but if I need a node to root I may have to. Hope you can give your input - thanks for the video!
Sounds like you are doing everything right! If there are no nodes visible i would remove one of the good leaves... no need to go too crazy :) let it dry and callus for at least 1 day... then plant it...
Don't you love free plants? It's always so gratifying when they reward you for all of the love & care you give them! 💚

When should I water it again, and Should it Also run out? . Finally how often should the Aloe be watered. Thanks
very helpful video and your so nice to look at EYE CANDY
Thank you. I’ve been waiting for this lol
Yuh can take the bottom leaves yuh removed dry them then grind and make Alove vera powder.
How long does it take for an aloe Vera plant to grow larger … by larger let’s say twice its current size? Assuming it’s also given the right kind of care , soil and pot size.
I assume you know Pure Aloe Vera Gel harvested from your own plants... can be used as a healing lube too.
Wow it’s a monster mines getting huge
Do you have to leave it out for a week or more? Or can you put it back in soil right away?
Hi Bill I love your video can you tell me what kind of soil you use for the aloe I heard kind of sort of but didn’t and please post an image that I may know what to look for at my local Lowe’s Store Thank you so very much in advance 🥰💕🥰🌱🪴#APlantLoverAlso
Hi!💜 I have a question about one of my aloes, if you don’t mind:)
So about a week ago, one of my aloes’ leaves fell off, and I didn’t notice until two days ago.
I really didn’t think it was possible, but I’ll keep it planted, because who knows what could possibly come out of it😅😂
Can you re pot the same day into dry soil. I just did this and now found video two days later 😋
You should be fine... just let the soil stay dry for a week or 2
G'day from Western AU!
Help!
I let mine dry for 3 weeks.... it was between 18-25C
I would wait at least 2 days after cutting the trunk before replanting.
What feed do you use or have I missed it stay safe regards from lreland
I usually use a balanced fertilizer when I remember. Usually at 1/2 strength... the brand I'm using right now is Miracle grow
Is there a way to keep them from growing in all different directions; I have an exact aloe but a lot smaller? Also, can I use rooting compound after letting them callus over?
Wooden sticks / any support to prop the leaves upwards
Thanks for sharing!
This guy looks like new Zealand cricket capitan Daniel vettori with the spex
Thanks :) lol
OMG how old is that big plant?! WOW
Not sure.. I think 8 or 10 years...
for how many days did you leave the cutting before planting?...any specific signs to look for before potting it?
I left them out for about 3 weeks. But 3 or 4 days should be OK... you just want to make sure the cut end is very dry and sealed off.
Can I grow an aloe plant from a leaf cutting?
I'm new to Aloe plants. If I cut plants stem in half to replant it's outgrown twisty top, will the empty, but rooted trunk stump continue to grow a new plant?
many times they will... but sometimes they don't … its a roll of the dice… but worth it... it can take a while... mine just recently started pushing out some new growth.
Looks nice after hair cut!
Amazed
So leaves that fall off without a stem are basically file 13?😢
What did you do with the aloe vera leaves cutting? I heard you can't actually grow a new aloe vera from planting the leaves, even though there are videos claiming you can
I tossed mine in the compost... but you could harvest the gel if you want to utilize it. There are plenty of videos out there about that. I personally have not had any success with growing an aloe Vera from a leaf cutting... but I'm sure that have been a few success stories.
@@PlantzNThings oh, tossed it into the compost, suppose it would help, yes I will use the gel for my skin
Wow ❗️😊👍
The top of my aloe leaf has snapped, should I cut it off or leave it? I'm new to the aloe plant so I'm really not sure lol
If the leaf starts to wither off and die you should cut it if it starts to callus over then you should keep it
@@lilewaffle8766 Thank you :)
What kind of soil did you use? I heard your say it, but couldn't understand.
He answered it in another question; a bit after you posted this fyi
Thank you.
Can I grow another plant from a single leaf cutting??
Personally I have not had success growing them from a single leaf.... but it might be possibility
@@PlantzNThings oh shoot. It seems everyone has said that. 😞 thanks for the response
Wow 🤩
why wait 3 weeks? does the stem have to be a certain dryness?
A few days is likely ok... i just had other things to do... it just needs to calus
Does anyone else hate the smell of aloe gel? I cut a few leaves from mine and almost gagged at the smell... it smelled like onions/rotten potatoes. I always thought aloe gel was colorless and odorless?
Did you put water in the bowl or just left them dry
Left them dry
What is the potting mixture
Can it grow in water than put into potting soil please let me know thank you
No
Hi, how long till it
1. Grew that big
2. Produced babies
PlantzNThings thank you so much!
