I saw a hilarious little film in the RUclips about those birds and the people that lived around them and it was a bit tragic and typical of what happens when foreign species invade.... In the movies the narrator explained that those birds are vigilant and they are nosey and when they get molested they take care of business. I understand well that humans are an invasive species in most of the world. Hi also understand that if we fuck around with the wildlife around us we wind up in a poison and waste land and that we need the nature around us we can’t just kill and rape everything I think and hope Aussies understand that.
This is so silly and hilarious. The emus are intelligent enough to know that this creature is upside down because when he rolls forward to get upright, they get away from him.
The question is who discoverd this technique? A random dude was just laying in the jungle and tought hey i'm going to do some pilates moves and then Boom!!! Emus!
I tried doing this at a zoo in front of the emu exhibit once, and gave up after a few minutes because I didn't think it was working. Lo and behold when I got up the emu was coming out of the bushes and gave me a dirty look
I just love that this is how you catch emus. Just lay down and be weird in the middle of the road and they all come over like, "Wtf is going on here?" This makes me so happy.
After triggering a "gull alert" (a sentry gull spotting me, for then to call out a general alert), I decided to stop, and just behave out of the ordinary. I did a "still walk", where I move my feet but don't move off the spot. This granted me a silent escort of bewildered gulls. Dunno about emus, but at least birds that are used to humans - well, any animal in their environment - will learn the typical behavior of that animal. If you begin to act weird, they'll take notice.
It looks like some magnetic phenomenon, I wonder if by airbiking the other way around you get all the emus to go away from you, at the point when they reach the other side of the world and you end up being on the same axis as them
This footage is of my mate Catz trying a technique to attract emus told to us by an aboriginal man we had a chat to in the area. We were working on a crew doing seismic surveys exploring for oil & gas deposits in remote desert areas of Australia. I think this was in the Innamincka area of north east of South Australia.
I wonder if emus do this because they are just curious, or if it's because (at least from a distance) it looks like it might be another emu that's stuck on it's back or in distress
I was thinking the same thing. If you imagine an emu laying on its back struggling to get turned right-side up, to me, it would be just what this guy is doing.
Wow thats amazing! Anyone know why they’re attracted to this movement..? They see him get up but once he starts to do it again they move towards him again.. very interesting and adorable!
For those that don't know why he did that, it is a way to show the emu that he is no threat to them. Usually you would have to make a wounded sound with it as well.
wild animal get scared when bigger creature stand strong , and get curious when dying.... Emus: "Aha this could be foods"... "wait! oh no shit its moving"...woah Run!... he's not dead!
They're all whispering to each other " someone got a phone? Should we call somebody to come help this guy?" and the grumpy one hanging back is going " nah mate he's just playing silly buggers and all of you are getting sucked in!"
"Hey guys look at that dumb human he fell and can't get up. OH FUCK HE GOT UP RUN! Never mind lads false alarm, should we help him or something? Nah his buddies are laughing so it should be fine lets just enjoy the show."
This proves what my dad always says "Roll around on the ground and Emus will come investigate"
Things only Aussies know
I'm American I have emus
WB Clips I don’t know if ur joking but USA doesn’t have emuz
They’re pets overhear, thank Florida I’m sure, most of the crazy shit starts there.

Boa noite professor🤣
Why does this work? And after he stopped and started again, why were they like, "RUN, IT'S A PREDAT- oh, wait, it's just a bicycle."?
Cows do the same thing, if they see something confusing they'll move in slowly to try and get a better look. Thats why we eat them.
i spit my coca cola
Being belly-up is a non-threatening display, and the leg movement makes them curious.
Yea. It's non threatening, it's not really confusing.

Just auto response no intelligence
They think it's their long lost cousin stuck in the ground upside down.
Yeah, I was thinking something similar. I was thinking that maybe from a distance it looks like an emu that's in distress?
Emus do roll and "play dead" when in distress, so that's likely what this was.
From the title, I was half expecting the Benny Hill theme.

They are by nature quite curious birds. Ive been told that a hand mirror will also work to attract emus.
Set up a splash pad, and you'll have a whole new set of friends
We tried this, those emus aren't trained to do that. It's awesome.
