  • Hi guys, we're sharing with you this quick video as we attempted to change the brewing pressure on our Gaggia Classic Pro. We wanted to achieve the ideal espresso brewing pressure of 9 bar.
    We actually are waiting for our order of the OPV Springs MOD kit from Shades of Coffee, but just getting a bit impatient. We decided to do a quick DIY MOD with the manufactured spring, trying to get to the ideal 9 bar.
    Warning Do it at your own risk!😄

    Good video. I'd suggest using a proper closed end wrench though. Those slip joint pliers that you're using are notorious for chewing up threads, especially on softer metals.

      I'm living in Ireland. LP Europicola cost €550 and GCPro cost €400. The money I spend for upgrading Gaggia, I put little bit more and I buy a machine for a lifetime ❤, beautiful and unique that involve me 100% to prepare my own coffee. I’m not exactly sure which video you are referring to but from my understanding, Gaggia Classic Pro brew around 12-15 bars OEM so it can brew for both pressurized and non-pressurized basket. I personally don’t have anything to test it. From my experience, it makes less channeling for when I brew and definitely help improving the quality of the espresso. I hope that helps! 😅

    • @motopasky
      @motopasky 3 года назад +2

      The standard spring for the GCP>2018 is calibrated at 11.5 bar. If your puck prep / grind / dose are all correct, you will pull shots at approx 9 bar. If one of those is out (e.g. overdose, grind too fine, ...) the resistance against the puck will rise until the puck breaks down and / or channels are created. Reducing the OPV to 9 bar makes your machine more forgiving.

      Hi, today I installed the 9 bar spring. I used bottomless portafilter from Mr.Shades (which arrived together with the kit) to check the extraction and the flow was flawless. I made no change to grind size and tamping pressure and can tell you without any doubt that the pressure modification made a remarkable difference to flow, extraction and taste. I also see that the extraction is not as sensitive to other variables as it was before. So more consistent results should be expected.

      @@JoeyVaracalli it will definitely help with the creama if you lower the brewing OPV to 9bars. Not only did I notice the difference in cream, but also in the espresso shot taste in a better way (reduce the unwanted sourness from the shot). 11-12 bars of pressure from manufactured is a little too high for freshly grind coffee beans in a non-pressurized basket. It could damage the coffee puck and create channeling which result in bad espresso.

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  3 года назад +2

      @@DonQuixotec There's 2 type of baskets that came in the box, pressurized and non-pressurized. Pressurized basket (a basket with a single hole in the middle of the basket) is a basket where you can use E.S.E or pre ground coffee to get a "fake" version of espresso. It requires higher pressure to brew in the pressurized basket hence the 12-15bars. Non-pressurized basket is a basket where it produces a true cafe espresso. It requires a lot more to make it a tasty shot but it will produce a much much better shot. The ideal brewing pressure for a non-pressurized basket is around 9bar. If you do use 12-15 bars to brew non-pressurized, it can create more bad shots than good shots and that's not ideal.

      You can adjust brew pressure simply rotating clockwise the brass conector wich contains the spring inside, I don't know why everybody are cutting or ordening another spring when all the opvs contains one spring like that and they get adjusted simply loosen or tighten that spring, like in rancilio Silvia, this gaggia pro OPV is the same!
