You sir, are an absolute genius. I was all set to buy a new printer when I got this error on my Samsung CLP-680DW, but following you video, I fixed it. And it cost me NOTHING!! Thanks for giving such great advice, and for presenting it so concisely and clearly. Top job!

Happy to help. I actually bought the motor on advise from the service man and found out that it was not the problem after all, hence the discovery of this little issue - Samsung should have made this good printer great. Happy to know that it's helped so many of you!

Nearly bought a new £600+ printer before finding this video. Used a tiny piece of electrical tape over the worn pad, and have just done a whole pile of printing without a problem. Just as well because only last week I bought a new set of toner cartridges costing me £370. Jack Heng - you've just saved me £1000!! Huge, huge thanks.

Dear Jack, I am in awe of your kindness and knowledge. You saved my printer and three new cartridges. My sincerest thanks. Just, by the way, for other viewers, I couldn't really see if you were talking about the foam pad INSIDE (semicircle) or OUTSIDE (little rectangle). I ended up replacing both, but I think it was the outside little rectange that was too thin.
    Many, many, thanks again!

jack, i watched your video after a quick error code search and read all the positive replys. i have a 2 year old samsung c1860fw that is throwing that code. i know these companys all design "built in obsolence" just so they can sell more new printers, and everything else being manufactured these years. what a shame and a total bunch of bullcrap that they get by doing this. its all about the money racket! I have faith that i can fix my expensive printer after watching your video. thanking you in advance for the info and tip. when i get time to try and fix it i will post the results. this machine had a msrp of over $800. I didnt pay that much but it was still the most expensive printer i ever bought just for home use. much more than people can afford just to have it break after only a couple years or less. thanks again in advance.

    • @wuikhoon

Indeed. I find companies out there are not that honest nowadays making sure that they only last 1-2 years at max. They would argue that by the time its 3 years old, its obsolete anyways - so why built in the quality. This unethical practice leaves us with digital crap that goes to the landfills - same goes for all the Apple products (I am a big fan of Apple - but I do hope they make devices that lasts so we dont have to upgrade every two years!!)

@@wuikhoon well, i just fixed my expensive printer with a tiny piece of white duct tape - i pulled off the original tiny piece of foam and moved it a centimeter or so and taped it in place. works like a charm. thank you so much. 5 screws (3 on left and 2 on right and the panel slid backward and lifted off, and one more screw on the solenoid to be able to work on it. put it back together and YEAH !!! thank you again.

This is a simple 10 minute fix. Definitely worth trying before replacing parts or printer. Only thing I'd add to make it clear is that the two screws to remove from the front panel are the two on the very edge of the front casing. For a while I was unsure which to remove but then it dawned on me that since the ultimate aim is to remove the side panel then it makes sense that it's the screws on the edge of the front and rear panel that allow this to happen. Many thanks Jack, you are a legend :-)

Yet another BIG THANK YOU. I did not expect to find a solution to this tricky error code... and not that simple! To date, you obviously saved 287 printers from the trash that were programmed for obsolescence a few months / years the warranty end... I will keep this in mind and at the occasion I will drop the same kind of DIY video. I would have preferred to find it on the Samsung support channel / website... Thanks again Jack

Thank you from Toronto! My wife attempted to get service to our CLX 6260, she spoke to someone from Geek Squad - we would have to bring it in, and the tech she spoke to was not positive it could be fixed. I found your excellent video and was able to make the necessary adjustment to the solenoid "clapper". However, in my haste, I removed the thin felt pad from the magnetic as well. Oh boy!
I was able to cut a half moon replacement pad for the magnet with some black duct tape, and then recreate the pad for the "clapper" with four thin strips of black duct tape - and now it works like charm again. Thank you very much Jack!

Absolutely awesome diagnostics and repair guide. My foam pad had also slipped down, so replaced it with a sanded thinned down down chair leg pad. Like Jack demo's, it has to be fairly small and thin similar to the original pad dimensions. Amazing how something so relatively small and insignificant actually causes the whole unit to go belly up with an error message that makes you think its days are over!. Wonder how many people have chucked a perfectly good working printer because of this minor design flaw??

I have the Samsung C1860FW. The location of the solenoid was upper left, but the fix was right on! The pad moved below the metal tab so I was able to move the pad with a small jeweler's screw driver without removing the part. Thanks for the great video! I probably saved $150.00 repairing it myself!!

Thank you, Jack! I found a website which tried to explain the same issue, but I didn't understand it. However, when I could watch your video showing the problem in action, it made perfect sense. I'm glad you didn't edit out the first pad that was too thick. That certainly will help folks to prevent duplicating that mistake. Who doesn't love an easy fix like this?! Well done, Sir!

Hi Jack, A big thank you. My printer came up with this error message an hour ago. After watching your very clearly presented video, I inspected my solenoid and found that the pad had "moved" down. So I just peeled it off and repositioned it at the top of the metal plate and reassembled the solenoid. After plugging everything back, it works perfectly. Thank you again. David

Thank you so much. Almost seven years later, this is still helping people. I've had my CLP-680DW for almost exactly 8 years now, and since I'm still on the original toner cartridges I figured the error couldn't really be due to some worn down part. Ten minutes later, and it's fixed. In my case the pad had slid out of place, and just gently pushing it back into place with my fingernail sorted it out.

I'd just like to endorse the comments - you are a genius... thank you! Such a clear video. It took me 10 minutes to fix. I'd been through a lengthy process of finding Samsung / HP printer servicing agents and had a quote for £140 for parts and on-site visit. It seems to be a known/common issue that the solenoid is the problem and my printer was only 18 months old. The rubber bit you replaced was actually stuck on askew and just needed to be put on straight.

Great tutorial! Also very appreciated that you left the part where it didn't work. Helped with the understanding of all the aspects that needs to be considered. And you saved me (and the environment) the cost for a new printer. And for me it was the small rubber pillow that had slide down just a little bit. Pushed it back up and had to experiment on how to keep it in place with a small piece of electrical tape. The construction seems to be very sensitive to the thickness... But thanks to you're video I figured even that out.

  • @Daniel_Lemire

Thanks for sharing this. In my case the model number is slight different, CLP-680, but with your video I was able to determine that that little pad had only just slid down out of place. I heated the plate with a soldering iron to give the adhesive play, pushed it back into place and everything is great. Thanks so much for sharing this. I can't believe it wasn't even a broken part!

  • @AndrewAliveAndKickin

Great guidance - thanks Jack! I fixed mine on the first attempt using your instructions. I cut up a large elastic band, put a single drop of superglue on the appropriate spot on the actuator arm, held the elastic band piece there for two minutes (with a tooth-pick), waited half an hour to allow the superglue to dry, replaced the solenoid and and screwed it in, tested with the cover open and there was then no longer an #A1-4112 error. Since putting the side cover back on and plugging it back into the network the MFC has been printing without issue. The effort you put in to prepare this video is appreciated by both me, and the environment! (Our world doesn't need extra Samsung landfill.)

Thanks a lot for this REALLY helpful explanation and repair guide !!! I had just bought a complete new set toner cartridges when all of the sudden the error A1 - 4112 occured on my Samsung C3010ND (Help message: "switch off/on - if that does not fix it bring printer to service ...") - I was already afraid that I might have to scrap the printer but then I saw your video and figured I should give it a try. What you described for the CLC-6260 was exactly the same problem on my Samsung proXpress C3010ND (which seems to have less interface/functionality but obviously shares the same "printer base" and "electromechanic modules" on the inside) and within 10 mins I had the problem fixed and the printer works again - Great Video, great help, THANKS A LOT !!!

1000 thank-yous. My printer is slightly different - Samsung CLP-680DW - but the problem was exactly the same and your explanation of the repair clear and accurate. I didn't need to shave down my felt foot any - standard thickness cut into a rectangle was just the job. You have just saved me over £300 replacing as mine was out of warranty (by 2 months) and the repair was nearly as much as a new printer. I owe you a beer!

Thanks ever so much. I had just bought some new aftermarket toners when my printer started throwing the dreaded actuator code, and I was afraid the investment in both printer and toner was now wasted. Your video saved the day.
My printer is SL-C1860FW, the multi-function unit with scanner and fax. It was displaying error "A1-4111 Actuator motor failure". Your video helped me fix the problem. The disassembly is almost identical. Remove the right side panel. There are three screws in front and two on the rear. The rear screws are both covered by the back center panel. Open that downwards as though trying to clear a jam, and the screws are visible at the top and bottom. The right side cover panel slides back about 10mm to release. It helps to lift up the printer just a bit. The actuator motor is on the right side of the machine, at the top left corner (towards the front of the printer). Same problem, the pad had become compressed and the solenoid wasn't strong enough to pull it in anymore. I added a folded-over strip from a business card, but I'm going to replace it with a piece of an old credit card.

Thanks for posting. I watched this and another video, one of the comments in the other video said the foam pad had dropped due to heat. I removed my switch, warmed the switch with a hair dryer and gently pushed the pad back up - worked a treat. My printer (CLP-680ND) actually had 1 month warranty remaining (3yr extended), but I felt this would be less hassle than getting it repaired under warranty. PS I also would not be in a hurry to replace the toner cartridges, over two years ago my printer started saying the toner was low, in March 2017 I purchased a complete set - they are still in the boxes they came in, my originals are still printing perfectly, this is for home use but my daughters print quite a lot.

Thank you so much for this "How To" :-) Without your advice, I would have bought a new printer. But I've fixed it a litte differently, by slightly bending down the little metal hook. Hi. Thanks very much for your guide, worked a treat and well worth trying before replacing the motor! On a safety side don't forget to switch off and unplug first! A magnetic tipped screwdriver is also useful as the screws (particularly at the back) are small and fiddly and easy to drop! The pad is really quite thin. I found the easiest way to replace was to use a stanley knife blade to carefully peel off the existing pad, rotate 180 degrees and stick back on. I think mine had also just slipped slightly from the correct position, so repositioning at the same time helped,

Thank you very much! Was about to buy a new printer, but this fix solved al the problems. Got error's #A1-4111 and A1-4112 on my Samsung CLX-4195FW. Not the same printer, but the same error. Had to remove the cover on the right side to find out the electromagnet was a bit difficult to reach, but I managed to replace the foam with some double-side tape (with the protecting layer still attached on in on 1 side) and now, everything works like a charm. Thanks again!

Sweet!!! Thx for the video repair. It helped me fix an office Samsung printer in lieu of spending about $800 on a new printer. It's hard to believe such a small piece of rubber slipping out of place causes an error code. Thanks again!!!

Hi Jack, I also want to add my thanks to you for this video. I had a different Samsung model with a slightly different layout, but same error message. I was able to remove the old foam and replace with a small part of a foam sticker. Works like a charm now. Thanks again!

Excellent guide, same steps useful for CLX-4190 printer as well. Error code I had was A1-4111 but for Actuator Motor so releasing the plate from the gear fixed it straight away. Thanks a lot Jack.

Thank you so much for posting this - just needed to reposition the little piece and not replace it - printer now working well! We were told by HP authorised service people that it needed a new motor and would not be economic to repair a 3 year old printer....

Rosemary Drake that’s how they make money! I bought a motor to try and it did not help then found somewhere in forums someone said this could work and it did!

All-time-favorite RUclips-Video! Just saved a few 100 Euros on my C2680fX. I even didn´t replace this pad, only pushed it upwards 1 or 2 mm to it´s original place.
    That´s called planned obsolescence - colossal cheek at a 3 year old 1.200 Euro-printer!

Thank you.. You have saved my time/$$.. I have Samsung C1860FW and it was showing the same error, though solenoid was in different location and with wiring i was not able to pull up the part completely, but with your instruction on how you went about fixing, i managed to get the job completed. I have used scotch tape and it working perfectly fine. Thank you so much.

Thanks so much. I found that the arm was slipping under the pad, and thus pushing the pad up. An extremely small bend to the arm with a repositioned pad glued down sorted the issue. I initially tried some plastic but got a lot of solenoid actuations as you did

Thank you so much for this video. You saved me so much money. My printer had exactly the same thing. Things to you I fixed it myself and now my printer works perfectly. You should do a video exposing Samsung which is now HP. How could they dare to make a product so expensive and make that mistake. Just because of a little rubber that they didn’t install properly. That is just ludicrous. Thank you so much for this video.

It works! I just put three layers of double-sided self-adhesive tape (one side with the protective folio) on the cushion, and it seems to have the right distance now. Thank you very much for the hint! I will also gladly transfer some money to you via Paypal as a thank you.
