      I think Liz and Max are the one thing that's working for the reboot. They do have a lot of chemistry. Everything else is pretty bad - I dislike the new Isobel, I actually don't mind the new Michael but the whole gay thing is just tiresome, mostly because I know people are going to make a huge deal out of it and it'll become a whole political crusade, and because it's the CW, they'll milk that for all its worth and then sacrifice the story in order to please self-righteous fans.

      And I don't mind Isobel. Did you like Katherine Hiegl? I'm rewatching the pilot now, and it doesn't seem like she even wanted to be there much. Idk. This Isobel has a lot of emotion for her character. That's the one thing the original cast lacks - emotions lol. Maybe it's cuz they're young teens in the first one, and it's the 90s, but this new cast tones it up a few notches with their emotions

      @@johnjungkook2721 I didn't like the new Isabel in the first season, LOVED her in season 2. And there's a reason why her character changes a lot between the seasons. Liz and Max have great chemistry, I love Michael and Alex as well, sorry that you think it's tiresome to see gay and bisexual people on TV but they do exist so why not give them a love story.

      I toootally agree but you know ...i have been thinking about her "case"(looool. Her case.).Few years ago( or a bit more, like 10 years...w/her show, being a mom in the show! An adult omg, not Liz, way stronger woman...&another show,as a guest star.) I thought she looked totally older....more of a serious face... way less radiance& innocence. I was almost sad ..She was still beautiful okay🥰..I love her...but not as "luminous"as LATER in life(in Christmas movies, interviews...omg what a BEAUTY. And "pure").sorry to judge, as a girl...But i actually think THIS could give every girl who read my comm. some hope! We can change. maybe she got very happy in life and got a "glow"out of it. Or took really great care of her skin AFTER that. peeling idk... doesn't even have to be cosmetic procedures, cause some serums/acids( glycolic/lactic) change your skin...crazy .10 years off your skin🤪 haha.XOXO love her& how she respects the new show& how nice she is.

I never liked the ending with Max giving up his son, but this reboot takes some of the old and mixes it with new and that's too much. What about Alex? What about Tess? What about Topolsky? They died. Let it be...

      Alex is in the reboot, but as Alex Manes who plays the love interest of Michael Guerin, instead of Maria (sort of lol - it's sort of a love triangle cuz Michael is "bisexual"...so he says lol)

    • @joeypotter6051
      @joeypotter6051 4 года назад +1

      Tess was only in the OG show, she was never in the books. (The new show has done a couple of shout outs to Tess, they have said she won't appear in this series.) Pretty sure Alex didn't die in the books, and he's given much more storyline and is much more compelling in the new show IMO. I'm glad they've put their own spin on it, it would be worse if they were remaking it exactly the same as the original. There wouldn't be any point at all in that.

  • @chubbyninja842
    @chubbyninja842 5 лет назад +21

    I binged the original series for perspective before starting the new show. From the very first moment of the very first episode of the original, it was completely on point. Great dialogue. Great storytelling. Great acting. Great direction. This is one of those shows that got canceled way too early and for no apparent reason (like FireFly).
    First impression of the new show is that it's just not as good as the original. Not by a longshot. Like I said above, in the original, it hooks you immediately and keeps you hooked. The new show takes a while to get warmed up. A huge problem with that is that all the way through they're basically face-banging you with SJW rhetoric, which really detracts from the show and pulls you out of the moment. There you are, trying to get into the show, and all the sudden you feel like you're sitting in a lecture at Berkley, and you're like "wait, is that what this show is about? I thought it was an alien romance?!" Don't get me wrong. I'm as liberal as the next guy. Equal rights, open borders, all that stuff ... but, damn, can I PLEASE just watch a show without getting preached at every 15 seconds? Can we do that? Please?! There is a way to incorporate that message into the show organically so that it doesn't turn the show into the message, but apparently, these writers don't know how to do it.
    Another problem I have with the new show is that all of the characters are essentially unlikable. Liz and Max are the least unlikable, which is good because it's basically their show ... but come on. The audience needs to be able to root for someone, and everyone is just miserable all the time. Long story short, they would have been WAY better off just bringing back the original cast and doing a continuation show where now the old characters have teens of their own. This would have been so good because we could continue the theme of teenage aliens trying to fit in and survive without revealing their secret, and you'd also have parent aliens now risking everything to keep their family safe from government agents and the threat of the pending invasion that they had looming over them at the end of the original show. This is SO MUCH more interesting than what they have going on in the new show! Now that I think about it I'm starting to get pissed off. I REALLY want to see my vision of the pickup show!

    • @Swordsquire
      @Swordsquire 5 лет назад +2

      the early 2K's were rough years for good sci-fi. We lost Firefly, Farscape, and Roswell.
      All three shows had some seriously well presented stories, ensembles, and directing.
      They covered the dynamics of coming of age (Roswell), relationships, actions and life altering consequences, character development, plot twists. Even killing off characters which drove home the point of the danger being real.
      These are things the Star Trek never really dealt with. I guess mainly because of their episodic nature of writing.
      Maybe this reboot would've been better had they given it a different name, ditch the original series visual cues, such as the Crashdown Cafe, and never called it a reboot.
      Now for the conservatives whining about the "political agenda", Hollywood's ONLY agendas are establishing a viewer to make money off of.

    • @joeypotter6051
      @joeypotter6051 4 года назад

      The original series was already a remake of a book series, and there are elements of Roswell NM that are closer to the books than this - Liz being Mexican-American, etc. Neither version of Max looks anything like he's described in the books, same goes for Alex, Kyle in the books was an irredeemable a-hole, the fourth alien was not Tess it was a kid called Adam who'd been captured by Sheriff Valenti and held captive in a lab his whole life.... so if we're comparing to source material, both shows are about even.
      I'm not going to touch on the SJW stuff except to say that politics are real life and if you're in a position where you can ignore the realities of deportations and LGBTQ+ issues then that's great for you but that's not real life as many people know it.
      The only character I found unlikeable in the first season was Isabel but I loved her in season 2. Personally I would've cared far less about a reunion show with the OG cast, plus they'd never have got Katherine Heigl to come back for it. If you want to see Jason Behr, watch season 2. He is a recurring guest star.

    Loved the original Roswell series so I was excited to watch a reboot and partake in the lives of characters that loved each other so fiercely that they risked their reputations, futures, safety - everything - for one another. A modern telling of The Three Musketeers - all for one, and one for all - Romeo and Juliet, et cetera... Those are the stories people (well okay, me) long to watch, read, and experience in life. Relationships that make us feel alive, irrational love which makes our hearts soar, sacrifice that imprints itself on our soul.
    Hollywood story tellers can see nothing else in the Roswell High legend/saga but immigration and the need to tell viewers what they should think and feel? Really? As a two time Obama voter, B. Sanders (primary) & HC voter I feel the plight of immigrants - legal, undocumented, and illegal or whatever buzz word we want to apply to these real, beautiful and precious people. But if you are going to bring up immigration, at least make it smart and thought provoking. Honestly discuss the benefits of sanctuary cities - and their very real dangers. Talk about the essential nature of checkpoints which every country in the world have - why are they scary, and why are they necessary! Write well and let us decide!
    I was hoping this first episode would lay the ground work for deep friendships that I could once again invest my time, mind and hopefully my heart in. After watching the pilot I conclude that apparently none of those things are important to this writing team. I want to be wowed by story... inspired to risk love, and to care more deeply - the human heart and all it's longings! Another missed opportunity by Hollywood that is consumed with hatred for anything that doesn't sound, speak, look, or think just like they do. So very sad for us! Please please please write stories that bring us together and remind us how truly easy it can be to befriend, care for, and hopefully even love someone who doesn't share our perspectives, views or experiences!
    ...so great to see Liz Parker (Shiri) directing - what a great character she was!

    • @joeypotter6051
      @joeypotter6051 4 года назад

      Immigration is a small part of the story, it's just another way that people feel alienated in their country. The friendships do take a while to kick off in this show but by season 2 everyone is hanging out and getting along so well. The friendships in this show are so funny and fun to watch.

    It look really bad, they should've just did a sequel series called "Beyond Roswell" or "After Roswell" or whatever but not a crappy reboot. There was so much they could do with continuing the series. Max & liz got married at the end of the original & they could be older with kids. They never really completed the story with the Skins in the orig so they could be back only there could be a kind of war between them & a new Skin baddy. Max had a kid with Tess that they adopted out who was "fully human" & they could've done something with him like when he became 16 or whatever ages his latent undetectable alien abilities start to manifest. They could bring Tess back even though she died her good clone didn't & the evil clones of the other 3 did die so the 4 could be all back together again running around slaying Skins. Isabel could go back to Roswell & reunite with her husband because she could've been pregant when they left, Micheal & Maria could also have kids & so there's the old generation from the orig series teaching the new generation about their powers & how to fight the skins & it could be a kind of batton pass from the old to the new. This is all just off the top of my head there was heaps they could have done in a sequel series that the old series left open for more story about, we never got to see there home planet & we know with there tech it doesn't take that long to get there & back because Tess went there end of season 1 & returned in season 2 which was a few months min so they could take us there for a few eps so we can see what they looked like as aliens & not hybrid alien/humans. Such a shame everyone is trying to reboot every good series instead of continuing the story & leaving the old series the way it was.

    Nope. I have no desire to watch this, just like I have no desire to watch the Charmed remake. Why do they have to keep doing remakes? Can't they come up with any original ideas? I enjoy my 90's nostalgia as much as the next person, and I will admit to enjoying sequel reboots like Fuller House, Girl Meets World, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life...but that is because those shows don't change the original series and i can watch the characters I loved when I was younger. Not reboots like this. Jason Behr will always be the true Max Evans, and the same for the rest of the original cast.

      They are actually pretty good reboot. Roswell is really nice and Charmed is funny as hell ! Accept that things changed, its life. And when reboot come some are bad, some are good. But bad or good won't changed the way you see or love the old one. They certainly won't change mine. We grow up with them, they will be special for us forever. They have moved on with their lives past their time on Roswell and it is completely normal not to want to come back on a show they started on as they have grown and moved on to other projects. Shiri is directing which is what she was willing to do as it shows her growth in the industry. The character Liz in the book was not a Caucasian female which is what I meant by going back to the books. Its a TV show, if you don't want to watch the reboot don't watch it, who really cares.

    I’m kinda glad I never watched the original Roswell because I love Roswell New Mexico and I feel like it would’ve ruined it for me. But as for the original Roswell, I wish I could watch it now, but that’s like reading the Shadowhunters books before watching the tv show, because I won’t have a clear opinion on the one I experienced after the other, I’ll just automatically dislike it.
    Long story short, I just quickly want to say that either way, whichever one you watched first, the other one will look bad if you truly liked the first. I tried to give the new Roswell a chance, but after 20min. I just could not get into it.. the new max and liz just do not have that connection that even pulled u into it.. Nothing about the new liz is anything like our liz. She was sweet and innocent and just so likable.. Max was so freaking hot at the same time they're was just something about him u could not put into words.. This new max is not cute and i hate his accent... sorry but i just do and it almost makes my skin crawl.. Can't say much about Isabel yet, but i can tell i would not like her.. And since when was Maria another race when she was white and no i am not racist.. I wished they had kept the characters close to the other characters.. And Kyle might got cuter but i did not like the actor from vampires diaries, so i know i wont like him now.. And i guess his dad had a sex change.. And Michael is well not cute atleast the other Michael was more cute then this one.. Since i seen this show when it came out. I washed it more the. Over 200 times and i still watch it .. Just something about the original rosewell that i felt somewhat connected to it, i think cause as a native American i think that's part of it if u can understand why.. Another i was one of the people that helped for years to bring this show back.. And lets say i wish i had not,cause nothing about the new Roswell comes close to how the other Roswell sucked u in just by the first two characters chemistry.. Another they could not help but to also make this show political.. They just have to bring this into a great show.. They did it to Roseanne and they will do it with other new shows and movies.. Watching shows and movies was a place where people could escape all the real life issues and make us forget them for a moment.. Now they use shows and movies to shove it down are thraots.. This is my opinion u don't have to like it, u can move to the next one.. Don't need triggered people taking a baby fit over an opinion.. sorry i gave it a try and i did not like it. So i won't be watching it.. To those that liked it i hope u enjoy it...
    I will keep rewatching the other rosewell.. The actress that played liz u still look beautiful and u have not aged much in 20 years. I really wished u was going to be in the show as well as the actor who played Max. I got to meet u all and u all was so sweet and kind. And when they asked if u all would be in a new Roswell show if they was to make it, and u all said yes.. And i see this and how none of u are in it, really did upset me.. But thank you and the other actor's and actresses that gave us so many good memories of the show. And to see my 2 teen girls watch the old rosewell and have the same feeling i had watching it. Its just amazing to see..

I wish it was more Popular, but some people don't understand. It should of had more seasons. And Liz, and Max were so cute together. They should of never made Liz a "sister". And In Roswell New Mexico started in the end of season 2 of the Original with the death of Liz's sister, the reason I think is because their not in High school. (Huge part of the Original Show)

I was flipping through the channel's and could not find anything good to watch. So i watched this ending of this movie and up next was rosewell.. U thought i would watch it cause nothing else was on.. And i remember about 30min. In it had me hooked. I loved the Chemistry Between Liz and Max. And Maria i just adored her. She was funny corky and one of those friends u wish u had.. Michael had that bad guy kinda attitude that all he cared about was finding out where they came from.. And Isabel had that snobby attitude and did what ever max said cause she loved him and she only had him and Michael.. I just love all the characters in the show and what they brought to the show.. They didn't bring politics or anything like that to the show. I loved that one scene in the show. Where liz shows up at Michael's house and Isabel and Michael leave. And the room was lit up with candles, and max and liz slowly touched one another and gosh max looked so sexy in the scene.. But that intense sexual feelings that was going on between them was a wow.. In all the movies and shows i have seen since the show. Never once did i ever see that kind of intense chemistry between two characters before for. And i don't know uf anyone knew in real life max and Isabel was dating... But this new rosewell upsetted me.. Nothing about it was anything like the real Roswell.. max a cop anx Maria is not white and Michael is gay, bi and the sheriff is a female.. I don't have any issue's with gay people.. But to change so much about each of the characters is what made me dislike lt.. as well as pushing politics and etc. Down are thraots.. It seems they are doing this to othee shows and movie's.. For a lot of people watching something was a way for us to relax and get away from all that.. I can't believe anyone would even watch it. And the fans that did help try and bring this show back. This was not what we asked for.. All these years we did everything to bring back the show. But we did not ask for this and to have politics brought into the show.. They turned this show into just that.. And smaked the fans of the original in the face.. I don't want part of anything that is being shoved down our throats...

      Personally I think the chemistry between the new cast is fantastic, but that's subjective and my own opinion, so we won't argue about that :) I did just want to say that yes they have changed Maria's race to better reflect the diversity that exists in New Mexico; Sheriff Jim Valenti is deceased in this show, he died before the show started and Kyle's mother has taken over as Sheriff; and the actor who plays Alex is part Cherokee and his family are written as Native American, including one who lives on a reservation.
      Also Jason Behr who played Max in the original show is a recurring guest star in season 2 of the new show, and hopefully more of the original cast (all of whom have been very supportive and have reached out to the new show runner - except Katherine Heigl) will guest star in future seasons.

    I am a HUGE fan of the 90s original. Anytime I'm in a bad mood, I just need to listen to Dido's 'Here with me' and I feel alright again. This show: the politics, gay Michael (but a closet genius), and and Sherriff Valenti is Rosa's dad, and the dead sister. Its not my 90s Roswell, but I am loving the story!!! The Trio are more powerful (or maybe they just had 10 more years to develope it), there is a stronger story to tell, and better character arcs to build on. Sure, I wish we had another version where the original cast got married and had mutant alien kids. This one can stand on its own. I hope we get more of their mythologies, more alien tech and maybe a visual of what they look like as aliens. 😁💝 I look forward to it. Give it a chance.

      I loved it when they used a cover of Here With Me in the season 1 finale! I loved this show too, I have the OG show on DVD, all the books (except one because I can't find it) and we even made our own Roswell board game back in the day! The new show takes elements of both the books and original show and does its own thing with it. It's now my favourite version of the story.

    I was skeptical when I first heard they were releasing a new one but it was honestly REALLY good and I think they kept close to the original characters in a way that shows where they might really be 10 years after high school and the jobs they might have pursued and what Roswell would be like in modern day

      Yeah I'm actually rewatching the orignal series rn and Liz says in the first episode that she actually wants to be a scientist ! Also I could totally see Isabel having a husband and being a stay at home wife and max being the sheriff but Michael would be a little more successful and they completely changed Alex and Maria's characters . Maria had much more significance in the first series and learned the secret in the second episode in the original. They also added in the entire Rosa dynamic .

      They actually did move the Crash Down Cafe. The one in the original show, which was shot in California, was actually based off the real one which was located in the middle of the block, across the street from the UFO musuem and had a giant flying saucer outside of it. I ate there in 2002. However when I went back in 2009 they had moved it to the corner inside a Mexican Restaurant. So the exterior shot of the Crash Down Cafe is accurate.

    What else should Shiri Appleby, who seems to be a really nice person, say, besides that she likes the show? But on the other hand: She clearly is on the business side of movies, she is an actress, she does direct. Making movies and watching movies is a huge difference. While fans of the original Roswell series (that was and is really good, at least for the first two seasons) complain for the right reasons, I think Shiri doesn't even really watch that new show.

    *****SPOILER ALERT*****
    I love Roswell. I read all 10 books plus most of the spinoff novels. I watched the three seasons and read thousands of pages of fanfiction. I wish they had have continued the story after graduation ... I wanted to see a hea for Michael and Maria. What happened with Liz Kyle and Max. I never cared for Isabel. With all that said I watched the reboot and really enjoyed it. The did overplayed the whole Liz's dad being undocumented. The buddy love story between Alex and Michael was disappointing because I hoped for some major M&M shipping. I hope they keep out the stupid Tess story and Alex murder of the second season. Can't wait to see how Alex and Maria and Kyle find out. The first series was great, different from the books but still great. The second season seams great as well just different from the first. Also Isabel is an ass hole changing Liz's memories and probably mudered Liz's sister Rosa. Ecited for episode 2. Give the new series a try. If you look at it not comparing every moment to the first series you will enjoy it.

      K S they don’t have the rights too Tess or any characters that aren’t in the, book and if it’s by the Books Why is Michael and Alex a thing that never. Happened in the books I can understand the political part because, in the books Liz is Latina not white in the books Kyle’s dad is alive but is not. Dead and Max, Michael or Isabel don’t trust Jim I that easily Michael in the, books falls for Maria at one point but then he really falls for Isabel and they. Can’t even get Isabel’s name right they have it spelled Isobel in the book it’s, spelled Isabel I will watch it the scene. On the promo that turned me off of it is the crashdown shooting scene it, doesn’t give the wow factor that the books or the OG show did I loved how. Maria yelled Liz after those men were, arguing and one of them shot the gun and a bullet hit Liz and Max too the. Rescue I found the tv show later in life I found it in 2016 I was 22 and I am now, 24 years old the show made me fall in love with Syfi and romance again.

      Alex and Michael are amazing together, I love their chemistry. Michael and Maria are an item in the new show, because Michael is bisexual. So is Isabel, for that matter. They're aliens, why should they be defined by binary constructs? If you don't like that idea, you probably won't like the show. That's okay. The original is still out there. I was more into Michael and Maria in the books than in the OG show, or in this version - I'm way more invested in Michael and Alex. I watched the Roswell reboot & 2 episodes after that. Found the show intriguing, esp. Max & Liz. BUT, I am SICK TO DEATH of having PC garbage crammed down my throat every time I turn the f*cking TV on! If I want politics, I'll watch news stations.
    Got curious about the original, so I binge-watched the whole series from beg. to end. Couldn't stop watching - it was fantastic! I may try to stomach the reboot, if only to see how Max & Liz get together. I like this Max because he shows more emotion than the overly serious, stoic original. But, as a whole, I think they totally f*ucked-up every single character from the original! WHY????? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???
    Most of the other comments here, from those who loved the original, ought to be looked at & paid attention to by those writing/producing/directing this reboot. You lose them, you lose a very faithful fan base! Very STUPID move!!
    BTW - this applies to the new, unimproved reboot of Charmed. Watched the pilot, hated it, won't watch it again. CW quickly becoming the PC crap channel! So glad I can turn to Cable for more non-PC choices. Roswell fans - try Project Blue Book instead.
