    This was really nice to see how some of the other aspects of your work are done. Also, as I'm just airing my flat, and it's really cold for late August, it made me feel like I was almost there. Just a cup o' tea on the old porch,, warpped in a blanket and wooly hat, watching the cows.... aaah yes.

    Back in the days when we used to shake hands when we met someone new...
    I hear people saying that oak is very heavy, and yet we also use rosewood, ebony, wenge, bubinga, purple heart... all species that are more dense than oak.
    EDIT: I just did a Google. English oak has a specific gravity of 0.73, same as hard maple.

      Honestly - talk to people. Phone around to local furniture makers etc. See where they get wood. Go to woodworking forums. There are good UK ones that detail lots of timber merchants…small and large.

    Just saying that It would freak me out to have to drive over where you are located. I am legally Blind in my left eye even though I can see out of it. Long story Won't bore everyone but long story short because of just having full use of only one eye it plays havoc with my depth perception and I do not do well on narrow roads and streets. Add to that and having to drive on the wrong side of the road from what I am used to well in short order I would be a nervous wreck.

    What about larch timber? For a soft wood it's pretty substantial. I have 15 meters of 25mm x 350mm+ waney edge left over from a job i did years ago. A lot of it is straight grained. It's dense heavy stuff but quite resinous so not sure if I could trust it for a neck.

    • @CrimsonCustomGuitars
      @CrimsonCustomGuitars  3 года назад

      I agree.. not good for a neck, but could do a cool.body or twenty! Soft woods don't keep a well sanded finish for long without denting unless you go crazy with the finish.. or use shu sugi ban perhaps..

    Hi Ben, liked the choosing wood compilation. Can ask if drift wood could be used to make a guitar? I have a 2 seater driftwood bench that is took 2 men struggling to lift itand carry it into my garden having to rest a couple of times. I need to recycle it so I plan to dismantle it and build something creative with the wood, then I thought of the bgbc in 2022 and maybe make one out of the wood. What do you think?

    • @CrimsonCustomGuitars
      @CrimsonCustomGuitars  3 года назад

      I think it really could be.. it does depend on the actual wood in ever case but at the very least you should be able to build the body, or a body or two for that matter! B

      Thanks that makes sense. I got in touch with the people who made the bench and they recon it was driftwood came from somewhere tropical. Anywho, I am going to take it apart in the next few weeks so if you don't mind can I send you an image?
      I am 66 in October so I am going to make a start building my guitar on my birthday so by the time the next build off comes around I will at least have hopefully made my mistakes by then. I love the channel and you have inspired me to pick up the tools again and start making stuff.
