It was no longer in the AFL and it's top flight records and such paid homage to by the merged entity in Brisbane, but the Brisbane Lions are not Fitzroy. Fitzroy itself came out of administration and resumed playing in the VAFA.
This was the same year when Brisbane and Fitzroy merged, so their songs here was a great memory of those teams before the merger since we never really hear the Bears songs anymore now they are the Lions.
The bears song carries the same tune as a Christmas song from where I grew up (French Canada). When I stumbled upon this I was super confused then fell down the AFL rabbithole finding out about the Bears

For a long time there is was believed Norwood was going to be the next team to step up from SANFL to AFL status & there was a media outcry at the time over it. Port Adelaide officially played their first AFL game as Port Power in 1997.
