I just want to give her a hug. I had no idea.

Just realized the episode where Hayley goes to college was basically Sarah taking time off to undergo treatment.
I can relate to the trouble she and her family went through. My dad underwent a kidney transplant in 2016, and my mum is the donor. His kidney started to reject in December 2019 and before we can do anything, we lost him in March 2020. It was hard for us to see him suffer, and go like this. I'm grateful to you for speaking up about your personal life. It gives encouragement and motivates others to overcome their mental roadblocks. You are a star in the true sense. Lots of love.

She’s absolutely phenomenal!! She can make all of smile and laugh while going through this tough emotional time
Why are there 2 k likes and 2 comments
I think the fact that they made her character pregnant during that time was a blessing because it allowed her to be emotional and I know she was self conscious about looking puffy in the face because of the dialysis so it just helped her look the part and no one know any different. I just love her!

Maybe they're pointing out how a rich and powerful person managed to score two kidneys while plenty of other people sit on dialysis for interminable lengths of time hoping for one?
It's amazing that she was going through all of this and was still able to be a huge part of a show that entertained so many people. Just goes to show you that you never really know what someone is going through in private, even while they put on a smile!

Sometimes people just need other people to be there for them.
I didn't think people with physical illness had that destructive thought as well 😢💖..
That statement was so relatable, I just feel like a burden because my illnesses are mental, so not everyone(my alcoholic mom included) sees them and get them; they just think i'm being selfish whenever I try to take decisions with my own health in mind... :(
To the point where I feel everyone's life would be easier without me in them..

@uh That's a very good question because transplantation can be even more dangerous for the donor.
uh oddly enough, it was my 11 year old brother. (The receiver) My family was more concerned over my 18 year old brother because he was in so much pain. The giver usually is because they’re giving away something they need, whereas the receiver is receiving something they need. But in this case, Christian (11) was the one that never woke up. He fell into a coma overnight.
My mom was with him that night and told the nurse she felt like something was wrong, but all she said was that the machine would beep if anything was wrong. Little did she know.

i'm ashamed of my scars not because of their appearance but because of all the sheer stupidity that caused me to receive them...
Hearing her story like this makes me feel her strength, dialysis is no easy feat thank goodness she’s been able to survive and inspire people.
Sarah Hyland is truly someone who deserves so much support and love because going through all this and still being optimistic, hopeful and grateful just makes her so much more deserving and inspiring.
I really hope this kidney works for her and she never have to ever have another surgery for a very long healthy happy life which she deserves
James Oswald unfortunately the sad reality is that you almost always have to have that kidney replaced after a couple of years. What’s sadder is that kidney donors, who just want to help, will most likely require a kidney transplant themselves or end up going through dialysis in their later years.
claireice I think this is where internet vs schooling differs. While I do use the internet as a resource on occasion, I fully and wholeheartedly trust the preachings of my professors. It’s also something I’ve noticed in my practice- while about half of my patients choose to never undergo kidney transplants and instead rely on dialysis, I’ve had instances where a patient has had multiple transplants, which failed, and they still had to go through dialysis.
claireice also, I’m pretty sure it’s explained to the donors the huge risk they’re taking. It’s known that it’s so much more dangerous (and time consuming) to remove a kidney than it is to attach one. That’s why when it comes to recipients we rarely ever remove the damaged kidney(s) and just attach the new ones.
She's still very young. She will most likely need another few kidney transplants in her life or will have to rely on dialysis. But if she's lucky this kidney might last for 15 or 20 years, so that's good.
So her life is more important than the donors themselves? How do you judge worth on human life?
Don’t judge people. You don’t know what they have been through.
And always be nice to people bc of this reason too. You never know how your little interactions will affect their day
@Dat Shop bro what?

As someone who has chronic kidney disease this was inspiring
She says so many good things here.
“When a family member gives you a second chance at life and it fails... it almost feels like it’s your fault”.
So true. Not only for physical things such as transplants but mental as well... My parents have done everything for me in order for me to survive my depression an anxiety. Yet I didn’t feel happier or like I wanted to live. It hurts.
“I had gone through 26 years of always being a burden, of always having to be looked for after”... that hit.
Please don't commit suicide. You should talk to someone . You can talk to me if you want . Be strong
Please, talk to them more, it will help, and pretty sure they will love to help you even more, or just to whoever you want! I'm sure many people would love to help. Think that if smth wrong happens, your father will think it's their fault, and the fault is from no one, sadly some things just happen, and our goal is to overcome it!

Damn, back when that season of Modern Family was airing, I was one of those people that thought she was either on drugs, had plastic surgery or both. Her sudden change in appearance was so apparent and abrupt and I just thought it was a typical case of a celeb getting a not so convincing face lift or something. Feel awful now that I jumped to conclusion. That poor girl. What a terrible set of circumstances she had a to endure. Glad she’s doing much better now.
Oh wow you have opened my eyes- I thought that too while watching!!!
It's so easy to jump to conclusions like that, I catch myself doing that all the time. So it's always nice to have a reminder that we genuinely never know what someone is going through!
Such an inspirational revelation! What season was the one that you saw her change of appearance? I didn’t notice!
Wich season?
What season? x
This girl is a role model. She is a hero.

No she's not, l0ser people like you idealize her because she's famous
@@caotico0 She is a strong person and that should be looked up to. You are the loser for not seeing that.

As someone who has lupus and ITP
I learned in therapy chronic illness is often associated with depression.
Sad to see her struggling, shes such a beautiful soul and wonderful actress
Wishing her the best
I love you Sarah! Every day might not be great, but thank you for sharing your story. This inspires not only me, but so many others to be grateful, and appreciate the life we have. May you continue to heal in all areas and live a long, healthy life💕
Why are some people here throwing shade at Selena, both are strong Queens, that had gone through health complications, Sarah didn't do this for attention, neither did Selena; they're just telling her stories and with that making awareness, they're literally helping each other with this too. People! it's not always a competition, they're both stable now, and that's what matters. thank you.
Cece Gomez Selena sadly isnt that stable right now😔 Lets pray she’ll get better
Thank you
I mean they both did it for attention but that isn't a bad thing. You tell your stories of survival for good attention. I think the word "attention" may seem terrible at times but I don't look at it that way. It's amazing hearing both their stories. 💜
who's even talking about Selena lmao
Thank you, next*
Lol sorry
My sister has kidney failure she’s only 16, I’m going to sent her this thank you for opening up.

I love Sarah so much. She is so genuine and such an amazing person. She is the epitome of hardworking and talented, and I love how she said scars were like tally marks of what you have gone through. What an incredible woman and I am so happy for her that she is now happily married 2022. ❤
I didn’t know and I NEVER would have guessed.
I know right? we never know.
I didn't realise it can take a long time for a kidney to reject (she had it in 5 years before it went wrong) 😞
Joanie C - Yup, Transplantation is always at risk for rejection. The risk never actually goes away. There is hyperacute rejection (immediate) which is now rare with modern testing prior to transplant and then acute which would be within the first six months and possibly treatable with immunosuppressants but then there is chronic rejection which can be years post surgery, is irreversible and all people with transplants are always at risk for rejection for ever. It is never a 100% guarantee at any point that they new organ will remain viable.
My mom had renal failure and her dad gave her the first kidney which she had a little over 4 years and one from an organ donor which she had over 13 years!!!
My dad had a transplant and had a rejection, I think, 12 years afterwards. He was at work, a colleague suffered an accident and due to the stress of the moment, my dad's body rejected the organ, a cornea, immediately. For a while he was blind on that eye, but luckily, a donor came along and he went through a new transplant and got his sight back.
Spain, my country, is the number one in transplants and organ donation; be a donor, save lives. 💚
It's called Chronic Rejection
Yeah, you have to keep taking anti rejection drugs forever
Sarah has gone through so much, she's a amazing person and needs to hear it.shes so strong and brave
You are a real inspiration..we don't stop finding excuses for not working and you are so persistent even when life seemed grim.. 🙏🙏
Shes isnt the only one. My wife had a donated kidney. It lasted 11 years. I was dating her when it finally failed. I had already propsed to her and threw in a kidney. After all the tests to see how i matched. They called and said yes. So we did it 4 months later we got married. I got to wear my family tartan so i got my wedding treat. My wife my wedding wish. 2 years later she was sick from heat exhaustion she couldnt keep her meds down and her body rejected my kidney. 4 years of home dialysis i got the call for her to go in for a possible donation. I let her sleep while the machine went through its last cycle grabbed her bags and loaded the car. She was so nervous she tried to tell me no. I basicly reminded her im with her and were going to do this. The kidney was from a cadaver donar. It matched even better then mine. Sweet. So far so good. Shes got good days and bad days. Were still together and in love 12 years. While this actresses story is unique to her. Standing next to you in the store could be another that has even more.
You're an amazing person. Thanks for telling your story
I wish you two the best!! Keep going, no matter what
;0; omg
the undead1 i wish you and your wife the best in life
the undead1 you are amazing I wish my husband would be so selfless that u. I pray this new kidney u gave her last a life time 😭
I used to religiously watch Modern Family & liked her character. This is the most profound interview I've seen her have & it made me cry. What an incredible woman
gosh she’s just lovely ! been through so much and still such a ray of light ❤
I started the process of donating a kidney back in September and has the surgery last week. Successful for both my recipient and i and Sarah is the one that inspired me to do this for someone ❤
