the way hades laughs when orpheus is describing persephone as a lady just chilling peacefully in a field makes me think she was drinking with the nymphs behind demeter's back
What always gets me right in the heart is that in Chant II, Hades outright tells Orpheus that women will only stay for riches. In this song, Orpheus reminds him that he had none when he first met Persephone. All he had was his honest feelings and Persephone went with him anyway. I think that finally makes him realize that even if Persephone is gone for half the year to attend to her duties, she loves him and only him. The thing he feared (her leaving forever) was an unfounded fear to begin with and all he did in his attempts to stave it off was just causing a self-fulfilling prophecy. And it breaks him. Maybe even changes him just a little, since at the end of the story, he lets her go to the human world in time for spring without protest, just promising that he'll wait for her.
This might be one of my favorite songs ever. Anais Mitchell was tasked with writing a song that was considered beautiful enough to move HADES, and she delivered.
The moment when the flower appears in his hand just made me BAWL. He looks so shocked. Even he didn’t know he could do that. He didn’t know he could still love her until then.
This part of the show seriously made me nearly stand up in my seat, my jaw gaping, eyes bugged out of my head, tears just FLOWING. This song touched me in a way no other song in musical theater ever has.
Hard agree. Only things on par with it in terms of awe factor for me are circle of life and he lives in you from lion king, but they check a totally different box than the beauty and romanticism here 🥺
I love how he looks around in amazement when the others sing with him, then gathers his strength to continue...beautiful show of reconciliation and intense heartache and loss. 2 completely real and honest human experiences.
reeve’s voice is just SO perfect for this song. an angel boy voice, if you will. absolutely killer performance! NOT TO MENTION THE FUCKING AMAZING STAGE!! like- the circular motions are just the cherry on top
I wish the moment hades turned around at “what he doesn’t know is what he’s defending is already gone” was caught on the camera because it’s good foreshadowing
This is truly the moment where the musical could very easily fall flat. This song has to be convincing not just for Hades, but for the audience as well. AND THEN IT'S ONE OF THE MOST TOUCHING SONGS EVER IN A MUSICAL, ANAIS MITCHELL DID THAT
The part that truly gets me is that the Muses worked through Orpheus, which is where he got the melody (the melody coming from Hades himself) Hades asked him where he got the melody - Orpheus likely got it from his mother, the muse Calliope.... Persephone's half-sister!
i went to go see this recently and no joke i almost had to leave the theater because of how hard i was crying. the choreography, the vocals, the lyrics, the acting, everything is so powerful
Absolutely the most powerful scene in the show, everyone united in song, the workers all opening their eyes to what could be, Orpheus finally realising his importance in the world, and Hades/Persephone rekindling their love after so long.
Seeing this live changed my life. Truly one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had. Not only is this song the perfect culmination of the show's theme but it sounds so heavenly. Also that carnation gets me every single time 😫🥰
For me it's the way that Hades starts the musical by describing keeping Persephone like chaining her with gold and cuffing her wrists with diamonds, and using the wedding band as a prison, that he himself thought that about being married to her, and barely looking at her for approval in the things that he did for her, but to the audience, (in 'Chant') the durationof the show. And then we watch him remember the entire reason he loved her, relish moving !WITH! her rather than forcing her, and take a moment to stare at her, and then they just hold each other for awhile, in the span of 10 minutes.
Bro, when Hades begins to sing like it’s second nature but it’s so shaky and soft because he hasn’t sung it in so long…I broke Also, my personal headcanon is that Orpheus’ song was SO powerful that for a split second he bent the Fates themselves to his will!
this brings tears to my eyes, always feeling goosebumps up my arms and the back of neck, i’m so moved, i think i have a new favorite musical. plus a wish i have is to see this live
Aquí hay un link en el que me parece que Road to hell está desincronizado, pero al menos el segundo acto no se ralentiza como en otros ruclips.net/video/u-LzVEOPD7E/видео.html
@@indieconquersyes! When I saw it, this was how it looked and it worked so well from the audience. And from an actor’s perspective, you always need to go big with your makeup for it to even be noticeable from the audience
It’s a shame the performers can never be as good as they sound on the studio album. As I love that album. I love those songs. And yet I feel I may be disappointed if I were to ever watch a live performance. Because I can’t help it hear all of the moment they’re off key.
the way hades laughs when orpheus is describing persephone as a lady just chilling peacefully in a field makes me think she was drinking with the nymphs behind demeter's back
Now this is cannon in my head
A year later, and that’s now my headcannon too.
The audience laughter after “oh it’s about me” really adds to the experience actually

yo i was already crying but oh my god dude i am straight up bawling rn because of this comment ohhhh my god
the person filming crying their eyes out…i feel u
i was bawling my eyes out when i saw it in person and literally everyone else was it was wilddd
I sobbed for a straight 10 minutes in the theater when I saw it...heck, I sobbed through the whole thing.
Same 🥺
Same though
I’ve been crying for hours and I haven’t even seen Hadestown or watched this video
When hades laughed after “mother’s green fields” and Orpheus gave a little shrug like “dude, really?” I burst out laughing
"bro what the hell"
Same 😂

Definitely!!
She was tasked? The whole musical was written by her as a personal project

what a beautiful scene that is. Im crying rn
I saw this comment at the beginning of the video and I was like “it’s a really moving scene, sure, but that’s a bit much”. 7 minutes later: 😭😭😭😭😭
This part of the show seriously made me nearly stand up in my seat, my jaw gaping, eyes bugged out of my head, tears just FLOWING. This song touched me in a way no other song in musical theater ever has.
me too, luv
i almost had to leave the theater because i was crying so hard bruh 😭
all of the Epics in this musical make me cry like a little baby
I did this. Especially with what they added later on with the workers ripping off their caps when the acapella starts showing that they’ve been freed.

i saw this live on this week, I cried so hard at that point too
@@annbennett2790 oh yeah dude when i saw it literally everyone around me was weeping it was crazy
When Hades produces the flower, that may be the closest I've been to crying during live theater. This song is incredible.
Chant reprise and Epic III make up the single most cathartic confrontation in contemporary theatre.
Weak effort, I’m up to 2 fluid ounces (~56ml) of tears at this point and I bet I can do more
Holy shit the part where Hades starts to sing along, oh my god, my heart- I can't. T.T So beautiful! So romantic!
when i first heard the song - i sobbed my eyes out
There was not a single dry eye in the theater I was in when this happened
When the flower pops out of his hand…fucking shit mane!! ;-; 😭

damn that hit right in the feels

This song was gut wrenching. The a cappella part hit me the most hades was a close second. The dancing part is where I let it all out.
