Having recently gotten a PPL myself, I can't tell you how happy I am for you Matt. You're looking fantastic, and clearly enjoying life. Flying is one of life's gifts that just keeps on giving. Good luck on the rest of your training.
It's great to see you living your dream! I'm 56 and still struggling with my weight and health...and not flying. Seeing how far you've come is an inspiration. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Here's a tip I heard from another Piper pilot for remembering the trim direction: If you turn it clockwise, it will knock you on the scruff, which will make your head pitch forward; if you turn it counterclockwise, it will knock you on the forehead, which will make your head pitch up. Though I'm afraid it only works when you're seated on the left seat. Hope that helped.
Wow Matt! I haven’t been around the channel very often lately, but I can’t help but feel a sense of pride in you and happiness at the incredible progress you’ve made. GA flying is super fun, welcome to the real skies 🤟.
Following your transformation was really inspirational and it is just wholesome seeing you do this itl stuff! I don’t remember for how many years I’ve been following you, it’s probably been since I was flying in FSX as a teen. I don’t know you in person but you’ve been accompanying me since back when virtually and it brings joy to my heart seeing you succeed with your dreams.
I’m really looking forward to seeing more of this series!
This is great to see! I did my PPL with Neil and the chaps from Merseyflight a few years ago. Currently studying for my ATPL exams and flying a warrior from Barton, if you ever fancy a flight from grass give me a shout! :)

Hi matt! My dads a commercial pilot (Boeing 737) and I plan to follow his footsteps! He occasionally takes me flying in a grob 115 (G-BVHE) and is showing me how to fly (allows me to taxi, take off and fly, however landing is very tricky for me ahah) I wish you all the best with your PPL and (if you are planning on it) your CPL
You were the person that made me take aviation seriously and I’m forever grateful for that. Started my flight training back in January and I’m about 25 hours in. Thank you so much Matt and enjoy every moment in the air. (P.S. The aviation bug never goes away lol)

for the slow mo bits at the start, a little tip; If you're trying to do slowmo but you didn't record in high enough FPS to get a (smooth) nice result, you can try optimal flow slow-mo. It will smooth it up for you ;) It's like magic.
I might catch you at the school some time... I'm hoping to get checked out on the Cherokee early next month, in the meantime I'm still hiring their PA-38s to keep my hours up. When you get your licence we'll have to take SW and LU out together for a land-away

I have recently started my PPL lessons as well as of April 14th, 2019 in N75989 at Brackett Field (KPOC) in La Verne, California here on the west coast of the US. 75989 is a 1976 CESSNA 172N Skyhawk. Sunday, May 5th, 2019 is my 3rd hour. Looking forward to watching your IRL flying videos!

I have flown with both ravenair and MerseyFlight and they are both great. They have only been experience flights but i hope to start my PPL sometime in the future. I flew G-BSLU with MerseyFlight and the Tomohawk with Ravenair, great planes and cant wait for the future videos :)

Looking good man stick with the flying, when I get older I want to become a full time pilot and have a lot of time to save up since I am only 17, I am from where squirrel is from in between Liverpool and Manchester and will definitely have a look at the company for my future don't let anyone stop you from making these irl flight videos.

10 hours of flight total ? Hey we're almost to the same point! These days my instructor told me that I had 4 or 5 flights remaining before I begin my lone pilot flights :D

What year is that plane? I learned to fly in a Cherokee 140 in the early 1980s when I was a very young teenager, but it was a much newer version (although still old). I think it's really CUTE that after all your sim-flying the big airliners, you are now humbled, and have to learn the basics and fly for real like the rest of us. You have a childlike sense of wonder. Congrats of the weightloss. You seem NICE now, whereas before you could be kind of a jerk (maybe you still are), but you seem more pleasant.

I am also looking forward to more GA flying videos in the future. I am also learning to fly at the mo, I am flying a 1988 PA28-161 Warrior 2 (I see on G-INFO tat G-ASSW is 1964 and G-BSLU is 1968) registered G-BWOH out of Gloucestershire Airport! :D
I look forward to watching this series, I am looking to start my PPL next year and will be looking for places around Manchester. So it will be interesting to see how you get on with Merseyflight as they were one of the companies I was looking at.

Would love to fly with you someday Matt, we also use the PA28 at my flight school, but it is interesting to see how different they are fx. the trim, throttle, switches and avionics placement.
Just subbed so I can follow your progress, I'd like to get a PPL just for a hobby, albeit a really expensive hobby. Looking forward to seeing more content and quite like how your upfront about being offered lessons/flight time theres absolutely nothing wrong with the win win deal for both parties. Will you be doing commentary of the flight videos explaining what you need to learn and how its being put into practice?
Also not that its a major issue but G-BSLU has a screw missing from the overhead panel next to the trim wheel

Matt, with your thousands of hours in the simulator, I’m curious to know how real life flying compares for you? Is it what you thought, did all simming seem to help? It must have, particularly on the Comms. I’m sure that you make the CFI’s job very easy.
Matt Davies yep, agree. Also, sims don’t capture the landing environment quite right. I’m pretty sure you have A2A T6 Texan. That’s probably the best landing Sim out there. Anyways, thoroughly enjoying this series thank you so much.
