  • Stunning encounters with the endangered Grévy’s zebras and black and white rhinos. All the big five of Africa are present in Lewa: Elephant, cape buffalo, lion, leopard and black rhino. Also the special northern five species live in the conservancy: Grévy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. Waterholes are a great place to observe large groups of elephants and zebras. The big plains are the hunting ground for cheetahs. Birding was truly excellent and the variety of dry savanna birds and water birds in the conservancy was stunning.
    Welcome to our birding and wildlife safari to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya in December 2020. We stayed three nights at the wonderful Lewa Wilderness Lodge. We would like to thank our travel agency DreamtimeTravel for this unforgettable Safari.
    For animal identification, please refer to the video subtitle or to the species list below.
    With best regards,
    Sandra and Markus

    Such GREAT footage...LOVED the elephants!...It seems it's always a baby bull among the young who is the most inquisitive, approaching with his ears fanned out -- only to turn + high-tail it back to his mama!
    They are so intelligent, so social and nurturing...They FASCINATE me...
    TY again! 💞🌾🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🌾💞

      Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, really appreciate your feedback. These little elephants are absolutely adorable. If you watch that scene closely you see, how he eyeballed us, then took his friends with him and then it was a race who gets closest to the car. In the background you see mama elephant to try to stop the youngest one with her trunk but it slipped through. Never get tired watching that scene. Wishing you all the best and best regards, Markus

    Wieder mal sehr schöne und beeindruckende Bilder! Mir gefällt eure Mischung aus ein wenig Bilder von der Unterkunft, Landschaft, Räuber und Herden und dann noch die Vögel. Würde aber eine eigene Safari bevorzugen, die Bilder helfen leider nicht wirklich gegen unser Fernweh. Dafür gibt es im Video die Untertitel - etwas was ich unterwegs oft vermisse. Danke euch für's Teilen eurer Reise!

    • @SandraMarkusTrachsel
      @SandraMarkusTrachsel  3 года назад +1

      Vielen Dank für Deinen tollen Kommentar. Es freut mich sehr, dass Dir die Mischung gefällt und dass Du die Untertitel hilfreich findest (vor allem bei den Vögeln, das ist jedesmal eine Riesenarbeit, die zu bestimmen). Viele liebe Grüsse, Markus

      Hallo Jörg, vielen herzlichen Dank für Deinen tollen Kommentar, das freut uns riesig, dass Dir das Video gefallen hat. Der Park war wirklich wunderschön und mit der grössten Population von Grevy Zebras und einem Breit- und Spitzmaulnashorn-Schutzgebiet natürlich absolut sehenswert. Auch Dir und deiner Familie ganz frohe Ostern und viele herzliche Grüsse, Sandra und Markus

    Hi great footage again. One question. At minute 15 you’ve indicated Plains Zebra but it looks like there’s a mix of Plains and Grevy’s Zebra?

    • @alanuae
      @alanuae Год назад

      I see further on there’s again a mix of both zebra species. Do they not hybridize?

    • @SandraMarkusTrachsel
      @SandraMarkusTrachsel  Год назад +1

      Thank you very much for your kind comment, appreciate it very much! So glad to hear that you enjoyed watching our videos. Correct, the group before 15.00 is a mix of plains and Gravy, but the small one with it's mother is a plains zebra and that was what we intended to lable. Wishing you all the best and best regards, Markus

    • @SandraMarkusTrachsel
      @SandraMarkusTrachsel  Год назад +1

      No, those species are not known to crossbreed in the wild (but biologically they could). They just happen to like the same spot and hang out there together. You also see it at the waterhole where groups of Gravy's and plains are coming and going, but they stay among themselves.

    Yet another amazing video, thanks so much for posting these!
    If you had to choose between Lewa Wilderness and Elsa's Kopje in the 2nd half of November, which one would win and why?

    • @SandraMarkusTrachsel
      @SandraMarkusTrachsel  3 года назад

      Dear Andre, thank you very much for your kind comment, appreciate it very much. Well, that's a very tought decision. Overall we had better wildlife sightings in Lewa and you are allowed to go offroad there too, but the lodge Elsa's Kopje is truly outstanding with that unique location on top of the hill. Wow, I would not want to make that decision. Wishing you all the best and best regards, Markus

      @@SandraMarkusTrachsel Thanks Markus for those insights! Believe it or not, we're still struggling to make up our minds (first world problems I know...). This would be for 3 nights, in combination with 4 nights at Mara Plains. Does that swing things in either direction for you?

    • @SandraMarkusTrachsel
      @SandraMarkusTrachsel  3 года назад

      Hi Andre, hmmm... whether you go to Mara afterwards (make sure you do the ballon ride there, did you check out our Mara video about that?) does not make a difference in your choice. If your main focus is on animal sightings then I would prefere Lewa at this point. But the lodge Elsa's Kopje is a dream (we had the "honeymoon suite, room #1", you can see it in our video, the balcony is just outstanding). But honestly, you can flip a coin, it will not make a difference. You simply can't go wrong with either choice. Best regards, Markus
