Whenever anyone sings this song, there's always an outpouring of joy and love in the comments, it's such a lovely classic and is as much appreciated today as it was in 1864 when it was composed.

If my memory is correct I played this as a clarinet only duet in 6th grade band in 1966. Didn't know for at least 2010 the theme song on "Make room for Daddy" was "Danny Boy".
Veevid4u .... Often wondered about this legendary song, I kinda thought it was about a dead woman. But I think you're description is about as accurate as you can get. Thanks
Does anybody remember the scene when the Walton's were all gathered at the piano singing with Jason Walton playing? I remember it was before John Boy left and before Grandpa passed.
This song will make you cry when you learn it was published posthumously in 1864. Stephen Foster died alone and broke in January 1864 in a flop house. In a drunken state he fell, hit his head and bled to death 😞
Hello....thanks for sharing this gorgeous video & song! One of the prettiest I've ever seen or heard. GOOD TIMES, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! EML Arlington, Virginia
