Hozier is one of my all time favourite musicians, and as an added bonus, he's also Irish, like me. I remember listening to his music as am angsty teenager, and really resonating with his lyrics. ❤
Happy to see a line from "In a Week" getting a mention, but that whole song hits harder when you understand that the Wicklow mountains are its inspiration and why they are. It makes the song even bleaker. But I still love it
Yes, and.... "I'm almost lost in the tides of her breathing"... the whole thing about flowers in First Time, ending with "absence of itself," ...... from the acoustic version of Be that's owned me for days now, "be as you’ve always been, true to the time and the placе you’ve been given, your heart in thе world, and a world there within"......."those jeans you have on" within a description of what will be lost in the apocalypse always strikes me as unbearably sweet. So many lyrics that either leave me with a dropped jaw or my head resting in my hand.
I like the ones mentioned, but I have a soft spot for No Plan. Someone else mentioned Cherry Wine - it's almost too beautiful for a song about partner violence. It's tough to pick.
“Sunlight” and “As It Was” should have been on this list in my opinion, they are two of my favorite Hozier songs. Sunlight - “Each day you’d rise with me, know that I would gladly be, the Icarus to your certainty, oh my sunlight, sunlight, sunlight”. As It was - “Just as it was baby, before the otherness came, and I knew it’s name, the love, the dark, the light, the flame”.
I LOVE Hozier my favorite lines is from my favorite Hozier track From Eden “I SLITHERED HERE FEOM EDEN JUST TO HIDE OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR” and the other from Sedated “you and I nursing all the poison that never stung our teeth and lungs are lined with the scum of it”
"The ears were chopped from young men if the pitch cap didn't kill them They are buried without scalp in the shattered bedrock of our home"- Butchered tongue the reference and being able to express that in such a poetic" manner "You called me angel for the first time My heart leapt from me You smile now, I can see its pieces still stuck in your teeth And what's left of it, I listen to it tick Every tedious beat going unknown as any angel to me"- Unkown/Nth (needs no explanation)
I love Hozier’s music immensely, but I have a soft spot for Would That I ❤❤❤ ‘’…with each love I cut loose, I was never the same. Watching still living roots, be consumed by the flame’ 🔥
I absolutely love No Plan. My heart is thrilled by the still of your hand. It's how I know now that you understand. ~~~ There's no plan, there's no race to be run The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun There's no plan, there's no kindom to come I'll be your man if you got love to get done
The chorus of "Eat Your Young" says so fucking much about our society. About the rich, the warmongers. But of course putting that on a list like this might be controversial, right?
Imagine being the woman that Hozier writes a song about? I’d feel so special. Also, I honestly believe Hozier is a fallen angel and he's sharing the songs that only people in heaven can hear.
One of the best singer songwriters in the world. You’re missing out on his music. He has over 30 million monthly listeners on spotify and has a song with BILLIONS of streams
Not all musicians actually write their own songs anymore - and Hozier is one of them. I was once curious to know what the song Take Me To Church was about, but he is credited with saying that the song was written by a Song Writer and he didn't know what it was about.
From Wikipedia quoting a rolling stone article: "In 2013, Hozier was a struggling musician, often seen in Dublin-area open mic nights. During this period, he penned "Take Me to Church" at his parents' home in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, and recorded a rough demo in their attic with a programmed backing track.[4] He wrote the song after a bad breakup,[5] as he later remarked that "the vocals were recorded in my attic at 2 o'clock in the morning. So it's a real homemade job."[6] It took him three months to write the song; only two musicians feature on the track: Hozier and drummer Fiachra Kinder.[7] The demo caught the attention of independent label Rubyworks, which paired him with producer Rob Kirwan. The song was overdubbed with live instrumentation, but the original demo vocals were kept because Kirwan found them "powerful" enough to remain.[4]" Basically just here to say he does write his own music thanks 😂
@@tttttessa12 You do know, that Wikipedia isn't the best place for fictional resources right? Also by 2009 or even a little before people were cutting their own songs and posting them. The idea of a "rough cut" is now a turn-of-phrase, compared to before when the Entertainment Industry was about quality and not just about money and things like RUclips and Spotify weren't creating legitimate musicians and actors, because legitimate actors and musicians were just posting demos on here to be noticed and that was it. Now a person can easily Produce, Mix and Master their own stuff, because the technology is cheaper and what it means to be a Musician now compared to twenty-plus years ago is a completely different story. Apps like Spotify have changed the music industry for the worse and upset a lot of musicians because they cannot do what they used to do - properly do their actual jobs and those who do have to spend their own money to put on concerts by spending millions of dollars just to put on shows that they are used to performing at.
I'm not sure where you're getting your information but it's incorrect. There's an entire video for Genius where he breaks down the lyrics and explains their meanings for Take Me to Church right here on RUclips. Also, he wrote Common Tongue in response to what people *thought* a line from Take Me To Church about. He's talked about his songwriting process on several of his songs when asked in interviews.
@newguy23 you're not wrong in your response- unpacking the entire music industry as a whole, but you've swayed off topic. Hozier writes his own lyrics. He wrote Take me to Church. The Wikipedia article is referencing a Rolling Stone interview with Hozier himself, as I already stated. At least I site my sources... what's your source that says he didn't write it?
