Hey Steve! Glad you like the axe, it was incredible to work with Mike on this one. You raised some great points that we've noted down - really appreciated!
We're actually in the process of changing things up with our axe sheaths, the design has never failed however - even the original ones from 10 years ago have stood up to everything we've thrown at them (many long trips to Scandinavia etc). We've worked on the principle that using the highest quality material but with a simpler the design there's less there is to go wrong right? But it's time for a visual upgrade!
On the axe head, we discussed pro's and cons of a 'ground' / 'un-forged' bevel compared to a forged one - In reality it comes down to personal preference .. The chunky feel to a ground short bevel was what seemed to work with this axe and to Mike's liking! Giving a smaller axe more of a punch seemed to balance nicely, in this case making it more robust pattern allowing it to do more work as a small axe compared to others.
On the topic of forging axes (and it being complicated) we may have a solution for you! - we're running a pretty special course with Wilderness Survival Guide author - Joe O'Leary on 16th-18th Aug down here in Somerset. 2 days forging and hafting your own axe followed by a 3rd full day with Joe on basic to advanced axe skills. Details are on our website, there are only 3 spots left however!
If you ever find yourself in the area, pop us an email and we'll show you round the workshop :)
    All the best!

Thanks so much for getting in touch and apologies it took so long to get back to you. Happy to say I've had a chance to use this now and it does not disappoint. Excellent geometry for splitting and chopping, hugs the hand well with excellent balance. I would recommend your work and mike's designed to anyone.
Also I have to say the treatment on the sheath is completely waterproof requiring almost no maintenance. The design is also really sturdy and safe to use.
Honestly, overall it's double the price of a gransfors axe but for waaaay more than double the axe. And it's British!
      Thanks so much

@@MrSteveParsonsamazing. I’ve ordered a Kestrel (which is VERY similar to the TA Axe with a few slight tweaks - From Thornwood)
Should have it by the end of the month so I’ll get a review up asap!
