Coach K is always great to hear --- probably not if you were an average hoop player --- but his self-effacing behavior is just so funny, yet humbling to hear!
It is what makes Coach K so special - he is very detailed serious about his tasks and goals, but also human and can connect with most anybody. He takes his "work" serious enough, but not himself.
I can not believe that I had totally blanked on Coach K playing his youth and Highschool basketball in Chicago! (even if it was the "Catholic League", it is also my hometown 19:45 ).
Laettner should be in the Naismith HOF. One of the greatest college players of all time should be in it. It’s called an exception. His impact is still discussed today 35 years later..
Only 4 or 5 players have ever been inducted in to Naismith without an nba career… They were all euro’s. Ain’t happening like K said, because he was stellar in college only, meh in the pros.
I personally have not really liked Laettner, even when he was "humbled" to be the lone collegiate player on the "Dream Team"... but there seriously needs to be a category that gets him into the Naismith *Basketball* Hall of Fame. Christian *did* have a... substantive pro career in the NBA. As much as it pains me to say this... if Toni Kukoč is in the Naismith Bball Hall, Christian Laettner should be there as well (and I am a Bulls fan for lyfe).
@@Williestyle-RobotechxMacross-x agreed. I very much disliked Laettner during his career. However when looking at this objectively it's easy to see his impact was HOF worthy..

4 hours a week in the offseason is crazy low. Yes, obviously coaches shouldn't be able to run guys into the ground in the offseason, but if you seek the coach out you should be able to practice a pretty decent amount. Especially because you won't have classes necessarily during the summer. That is crazy. Although I'm sure most guys are doing lots of skill work, shooting, and running pick up beyond that
Coach K is a 3 time OLYMPIC gold medalists as head coach. But he also was head coach for 2 FIBA World Cup gold medal teams-which much of the rest of the basketball world outside American prioritizes over the Olympics. So I consider him a 5 time hold medalist as head coach-once as ast coach.
I've always told parents that these basketball camps are nonsense. Thanks to RUclips, all the drills you need are a click away. Also, take your kid to the nearest basketball court - make sure he's playing with kids at or above his skillset, he/she will be fine.
Ok, and as nice as all of that sounds on paper, it doesn't apply to reality. I've coached AAU, and those camps are not nonsense. The super ritzy ones literally have state of the art equipment, techniques and nutrition. The tools and drills are on another level. Playground hoopers dont have the skills these rich kids have. They have more heart, and every now and then the league is lucky enough to get a Jimmy Butler or a Anthony Edwards to buck the rich kid trend, but for the most part the majority of all the high end prospects and the scouts rating them are at the rich kid camps.. It's literally how you get noticed now a days. Again, it is what it is, but it's why US hoopers are looked at as soft, and why hoopers with immigrant mentality are taking their spots.
You're confused with my reference to camps - I'm not talking about high school players, I'm talking about elementary aged kids. I've coached in PA, NJ and MD including collegiately at the D1 level. Cam Whitmore wasn't paying to go to camps, Lavoy Allen wasn't paying to go to camps, the Morris twins were not paying to go to camps, Tyreke Evans wasn't paying to go to camps. Hell, I went to summer league camp in the eighth grade at Villanova...we scrimmaged 90% of the time. I was one of the few that paid to go, the rest were future D1 studs, NBA guys. The reason why our hoopers are 'soft,' it's because of AAU. Dog shit defense, highlight-tape culture. Spending too much time practicing bad habits and hoping to get a shout out on Twitter, Instagram.@@Bask3tChase
@@Chalk89 The only person you named under 35 was Cam Whitmore.. I get what You're saying, but what I'm saying applies to these kids coming in now, and for the last decade. I think they should unify not only among United States, but also change rule set and game characteristics to match a little bit more international basketball.
